  • A few ideas: frozen banana "ice cream" as posted above, except I make it with peeled, sliced fozen bananas, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1 tablespoon hot chocolate powder.... YUM! Peanut butter chocolate "ice cream." Awesome in the summer! You can flavor the banana any way you wish, but that is my family's favorite. Also,…
  • training for my first half, too... Had a problem with being so hungry and grumpy after my long runs. l am also wondering how people work the calories.
  • Your hormones may still be way out of whack so soon after pregnancy. Many moms find it hard to lose weight until the baby is a bit older and your own hormones have settled down a bit. Also, if you are getting up all the time with the baby at night, it may really hinder any weightloss. (I am NOT advocating for a crying it…
  • I use Runkeeper. It appears to suck up wayyy less batter life out of my phone (droid) than Map My Run used to.
  • Recently, I heard Swedish House Mafia's "Don't you worry child" lyrics as "Jihad's got a plan for you...." instead of "See.... Heaven's got a plan for you........" Still cracks me up everytime I hear the song, even though I know the correct lyrics now.
  • It's your birthday! Enjoy it! Enjoy the dinner with your parents..... This program is about finding a way to live your life, which will have lots of events to learn about planning for. If you were me, I'd eat a healthy snack (i.e. hummus and veggies), and enjoy your dinner, and especially the dessert. On my birthday or…
  • Me- Kinda!!! I started with C25K a little over two years ago, and ran my first 5K in March 2011. I hadn't even completed the 9 weeks yet. I had only done the twenty minute run. I will be running my first half on the two year anniversary of my first 5K. I'm excited and terrified. Two years ago I NEVER thought I'd…
  • bumping for great ideas..........
  • Hi! So... I agree with PP, that most of your loss will come from eating at a deficit. Twenty pounds, while it may seem like alot, really isn't all that much to lose. Stick with setting your loss at 1/2 to 1 lb a week, and see if that works. How old is (are) the child(ren) you nanny for? Can you pop the kidle(s)t in a…
  • Does your work have an "illness policy"? Our place of work does, and it clearly states to stay home with what, similar to a school or a child care facility. In general, if it's a cold, I'm at work, but if it's pink eye, a fever, or something contaigious, I'm at home. I know that a few people I work with have compromised…
  • I second or third the ortho..... or whatever a visit to rhw ortho..... I had foot pain, and it turned out to be me walking funny due to arthritis in my big toe (which I didn't even realize was bothering me). I got fitted for custom orthotics, and a few weeks after getting them the pain in my foot disappeared.
  • I do frozen banana, spoonful of peanut butter, spoonful of hot chocolate mix. Absolutely delicious!
  • Go see your doctor. Depending upon the type/severity/etc. of it, you may be able to better control the symtoms with different medications or a different combination of medications. I have exercise-induced-bronchitis (asthma triggered by exercise) and I have to be careful in very cold, and/or very humid weather... as that…

  • I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I love Lara Bars. They are basically dried fruits and nuts ground up with some spices added in. I love them! I buy them on sale so they are not too costly, and they do not have preservatives in them.
  • I would talk to your ortho about easing into running. They know the most about your injury and recovery. That said, I would assume that if you wore good shoes, had a brace or some support, and were conscious of your form, that you would be able to do C25K.
  • So happy that other people like Once Upon a Time. Just started that last week and am totally sucked in! I also like: Bones (first few seasons, later seasons not so much) Big Bang Theory Vampire Diaries and I used to love me some Psych!
  • So.... I don't know about surgery, but my ortho told me to eat more when I was recovering from a broken bone. She said that my body was going to be using up energy healing. I agree with pp who said to focus on eating healthy foods and to listen to your body.
  • WOW!!! What a compliment!
  • I "whatever" C25K. Also, get fitted for good running shoes. Stretch before and after you run. Stay hydrated. Have fun!
  • Add a quarter cup of raw rolled oats to your smoothies... they grind right and add some healthy fiber to your smoothies. For more protein, add some natural peanut butter or other nut butter. I think alot of people are going to advise you to add protein powder to your shakes. I try to sometimes, but i have yet to find one…
  • Two resources: Cooking Light magazine..... Most of the recipes are yummy, fairly easy to make, and the instructions are usually very clear. Second, I love Appetite for Reducation cookbook. It's vegan, which I am not, but the author is funny, the food is healthy, and tastes good.
  • I used to wake up a half an hour earlier and do 30 Day Shred or similar DVD before the kidlets woke up. A year later, when my oldest started kindy, I threw the youngest in a jogging stroller and started running a few days a week. I got our single jogger free from a neighbor, and later added a good double jogger we got…
  • I used to run all the time (4-5 X a week) with a jogging stroller. It takes time to get your body used to running with a stroller, and then more time to get used to running with a double jogger. My advice, do a run/walk program like C25K to get your whole body used to running with a jogger. It took me about a month to get…
  • chickpea piccata over caulipots roasted cauliflower (maybe with indian curry spices)
  • Anything that utilizes dried beans.... black beans, black bean soup, split pea soup (using a ham bone from holiday cooking), pinto beans, baked beans, etc. Also, many crock pot recipes use frozen veggies which can be less expensive than fresh veggies at times. I also use tougher cuts of meat which tend to be less expensive…
  • I am wondering if it might be a reaction to preservatives found in some processed foods, rather than the sodium content. I also agree that you might want to start with a very bland non-processed food diet and work foods back in slowly to see what's really triggering you.
  • What an amazing story! I am so proud of you!
  • Hi! Glad you are here. This is a wonderful site! I have a horrible sweet tooth.... and I combat it in a few different ways, I either budget a sweet into my day (workout more),or eat fruit after a meal. Other times I just let myself eat extra sweets and know that it will all even out eventually. For the coffee, I would…
  • Under food, if you search breastfeeding, there is a choice to add it in as a food (adds calories back into your total). You should be factoring in around 500 calories a day for exclusive breastfeeding for an infant according to La Leche League. Good luck!
  • Do you run races? If I'm in a rut, I find signing up for a new race motivational.... a new distance, trail vs. street, etc. I also try to run differently every day (hills, intervals, shorter fast run, longer slow run).
