Can I join? I am struggling to lose anything more than water weight because I have to use insulin for Type 1 diabetes....and insulin is a growth hormone. I need all the motivation and support I can get! I can post measurements tomorrow morning.

Oh one more...not super caloric, but high in protein and low in fat..... Special K Protein Plus Cereal, 1 cup 133cals, 4g fat, 13g protein
-
Um, lima beans? The frozen ones I have are 220 cals per cup of beans, 0g fat, 12g protein. Edit to add: Also 10g of fiber in that cup.....in case you need more of that too, haha.

It's been 19 years for me this month. I use an Animas Ping and I'd never ever willingly go back to shots - it just DOESN'T work for me. I will be sending friend requests to everyone, lol.

Great post. I've never even thought about subtracting my 'regularly burned' cals from my exercise burns. Since I eat back exercise cals, this could very well explain my extremely slow/almost non-existant weight loss - I'm eating back even more calories than I'm ACTUALLY burning through exercise! I've now taken my normal…

I don't eat completely healthy. But I will say I'm way better than I used to be. In the past I could eat half a big bag of Doritos for a meal. Or a can of Spaghettios. Or three granola bars with peanut butter on them............and fast food for just about every meal every weekend Friday night - Sunday night when I used to…

Cocoa Roast Almonds as well as Cinnamon Roast Almonds (by Emerald).........I like almonds but they get old fast - these flavors keep things interesting :) Special K cracker chips - pretty low cal considering how many you get in a serving! Fiber One yogurt (50 cals per serving - and 5g of fiber)

On Subway's website under nutritional information you can find a breakdown of the nutrition facts for EACH ingredient. I always input my sandwich creations into MFP recipe tool and it gives me a total.

I'd love to try this, but I don't think I can? I'm only at 1270 calories a day to lose 1lb a week. I can't cut more than 70 cals from any given day to cycle down.....

Why don't you just use grams? Most foods in the MFP database DO have metric system measurements. :)

I have a 33 inch waist...and 40 inch hips (along with a big butt and thunder thighs). Try finding pants to fit that! It's almost impossible, and extremely frustrating. If they fit in the waist....I can't get them over my hips/butt/thighs. If I CAN get them over all that - they are HUGE in the waist. I hate pants, lol.

Agree. The issue should really be whether low-carb is safe for an otherwise healthy person. It is. Regardless, any new diet should be conferred about with a doctor. If a person isn't healthy enough for low-carb or has other health conditions, those should be taken into consideration. Scaring people with extremely EXTREMELY…

I'm in. Warning that I might not do everyday. I have some health issues which mean I technically SHOULDN'T be doing any weight-bearing exercises at all - but I know I need to tone, so to heck with that, I'll try doing it 5 days a week and stop or skip parts that I really can't do.

Being diabetic (I assume you are Type 1) and on insulin makes it harder to lose weight. I've been diabetic 19 years, and while I've lost some weight, I believe it's all just water weight. It's hard because I've had a lot of lows lately meaning a lot of calories going towards correcting those lows. Plus I've heard that more…

Depending on your BMR, MFP may not be 'allowed' to recommend less than 1200. For example if your BMR were 1400 and you wanted to lose 2lbs a week you'd need a 1000 calorie deficit a day. They can't recommend 400 calories a day, so they won't

Very true! The entries that are one thing per meal are often very processed foods, while the entries that are 10 items long can be great combinations of foods likes fruits and veggies and protein.

Ketoacidosis is not (to my knowledge) possible unless you have diabetes and are severely insulin deprived, dehydrated, and are in a bad electrolyte imbalance (it's actually called Diabetic Ketoacidosis or DKA). There is also something called alcoholic ketoacidosis. I have never heard of anyone else falling into…

If you're a cereal person I find that Special K Protein Plus Cereal is VERY filling because it's absolutely packed with protein and fiber. A serving is 3/4 cup, 100 calories, 14g carbs, 5g fiber, 10g protein!

I didn't read through all 4 pages, so I apologize if this has already been suggested! My suggestion is that you make sure your carbs are healthy carbs - from fruits, vegetables, dairy, and whole grains. Avoid starchy foods (instead of regular potatoes eat sweet potatoes, instead of white rice eat brown rice, instead of…

Love it!

Make sure you're getting enough protein (I personally think MFP's recommendation is too low). Also make sure you're getting 25g of fiber a day (another thing MFP doesn't correctly recommend). This will help a lot. And drink, drink, drink your water! I have personally also found that by drinking more water (as of today I'm…

It's not cheating. Most of us here aren't just doing this to lose weight and then stop........we're making a lifestyle change. It would be ridiculous for us to expect, of ourselves, that we will avoid all the 'bad' foods out there that are so delicious for the rest of our lives. It's all about learning moderation/portion…

No the body doesn't make carbs. What it DOES do is turn carbs into glucose. However.......the body CAN also convert protein and fat into glucose, albeit at a lower percentage. People need this glucose to fuel their bodies. However, carbs are NOT the only source, it is very possible to make do with low levels of carbs.…

You need to NET 1200 a day minimum (calories eaten - calories burned = 1200). You are NOT eating enough, and could hurt yourself in the long run as your metabolism slows down a lot. You aren't giving your body enough fuel for a 'non workout day'....but if you are exercising as well you need to eat even more, to fuel your…

Um, I'm well aware of that fact, as I've had Type 1 since I was 6. But control of these conditions is VERY related to diet. I only mentioned carb control in relation to these conditions because YOU noted that 'I've come to notice since joining this site that a lot people restrict carbs a lot. '.................I was simply…

I'm not sure if I believe it leads to it - there are many reasons Type 2 develops (genetics and persistant organic pollutants actually have a lot more to do with it than weight/diet, which the mass media wants us to believe). I do believe that once you HAVE diabetes however, your ability to use carbs as others do is…

What concerns me the most is A)diabetics like me going in, not knowing, and giving themself insulin for a NORMAL amount of carbs found in pasta........and then having an extremely high blood sugar that may result in a hospital stay and b)those who need to be on a low-sodium diet due to heart problems who have NO CLUE that…

I don't know how this differs from IST (inappropriate sinus tachycardia) which I have. I take a beta-blocker to get my heart down to a somewhat more normal (though still a bit high) heart rate. I personally can't work out very long however, because it gives me palpitations.

I think more and more people are feeling entitled to them. I certainly do. I have Type 1 diabetes and I HAVE to know the carb content to give myself insulin. Either that or I can't eat there. End of story. As all types of diabetes become more common and the number of people on insulin increases, more and more…
