I agree about changing habits rather than dieting, that's been key for me in having success this time around. I've been researching the Whole30 and am very curious about it. I'd love to try it but to be honest I've taken a lot of time to get my diet where it is now and I'd have to revamp. Cutting dairy, grains and legumes…

I've got one with the chest strap. I had just the watch kind where you have to place your fingers on the sensors and that was awful.

Thanks for the input, I'll try going by that and see how things go - I'm not arguing the higher burn if that is accurate! I don't normally eat my calories back but do tow the line or cross over it a bit some days. I'm trying to cut back a bit more and it gives me some wiggle room.

Was browsing the boards and saw this thread again. Since I posted the "deal" I've had my watch/HRM for about 4 months. It's junk.. almost useless. If you are sweating any at all it won't read and sometimes it takes forever to lock onto your pulse. Very difficult to take any measurements during your activity so you can get…

They didn't show any interest in replacing it until I sent them a link to the post. Within 2 hours I received a call to confirm them shipping a replacement. It's supposed to be here in 7-10 days, I guess we'll see. Still ridiculous you have to go to these lengths to get something done.

Oh, it is.

It took me a lonnnnnng time to realize that a permanent change to a healthy lifestyle was the answer to lifelong change. What may seem obvious to some may just not click for others, even if someone were to tell them the proper way to do things it may not work. To add to that, this is really the first generation where…

Wasabi Soy Sauce Almonds... I swear those things have crack in them.

1. Tape dispenser 2. iPad and iPhone - I'll count as one since they're so similar. 3. MegaMillions lottery ticket 4. Water bottle 5. A switchblade - No, really! I use it as a letter opener. ;-) EDIT: I didn't read the OP before posting so I had to remove computer from the list.

Well I hit up Whole Foods today and did some shopping. Wow, gluten free stuff is insanely priced! $4.00 box of rice mac & cheese, an $8.00 bag of pretzels, $7.00/lb for quinoa, $6.00 for a loaf of bread. Ouch! I expected things to be a bit more but was pretty surprised at some of the prices. Looks like my best bet is to…

Thanks again everyone, some really great advice here and lots of things to look for. Sounds like I don't have to change my overall diet that much, just a few substitutions, I think dining out will be the biggest challenge.

Thanks Monica, I was just looking on the Julian's website at the Almond and Coconut breads and wondered if they were any good. Seems like Whole Foods would be a good option for most of the items I'm looking for. Ahhhhh, OK... I just watched the video on rice paper wraps and now I realize what they are. There's a…

Thanks everyone. I probably should have clarified in my OP but I'm self-employed and work from home so preparation is no big deal. I don't have to eat sandwiches but seem to now as they are quick and easy. Fortunately I'm in an area where I've got a nice health food store, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. I just looked and I…

MFP is way high on their calorie burn numbers on most things. Unfortunately most machines are off as well. The most accurate way is to measure your HR and then use a calculator to get your calories burned. There are several available online, here's one:…

It's just too bad that over the next 20 years I put it all back on and then some! But I'm losing it again now so I won't fret too much. ;-)

When I was younger I lost 120 lbs playing basketball for an hour or so a day, 5 days a week. I worked a 2nd shift job and we'll all meet up after work and play. Took me 6 months to drop 120 lbs. If you're being active, it's definitely going to help you lose weight!

Gracias Troy, it was pretty darn tasty.
-
Thanks for the info, I'll check that out. I do use a HRM but it's a strapless one, I just check it periodically throughout my workout.
-
Do those sites track calories burnt as well? I use MFP, Runkeeper and Fitocracy now, I can track my routines but none of those sites track the calories.
-
Thanks, I'll check that out. Your logic sounds pretty solid. I do try to watch my fat but pretty much do the same. Someone once told me to do 80% of your grocery shopping on the perimeter of the grocery store - produce, meats and dairy. I think I'm actually above 80% now and feeling better every day.

Wasabi Soy Sauce Almonds, they're like crack for me... if I open a can of them I can't stop eating them and one little can has over 1,000 calories!

I'm 6'3", male, and currently weigh 419 (down from 465). When I was younger I was big, then in my early-20's lost a lot of weight. I got down to 240 and still had a bit of excess weight but my height and large frame carried it pretty well. I've been up and down again and again through the years. I really feel this time I'm…

I hear ya on that one. I've lost over 45 lbs and just a few days ago had a small child in a restaurant point at me and shout, "Look, mom! He's gonna have a baby!" Pffft, stupid kids.

Guys want sex. From the first date a guy goes on he's thinking about sex, before that even. However, to tell someone on the second date that you need to see if the sex is good before moving forward is in poor taste and in my opinion means that you've already decided the only thing you want out of the relationship is sex.…

Crud, deleted my post. Oh well, others have given you some pretty good advice.

As others have said, it means Non Scale Victory. - Getting a compliment on your weight loss (or gain, if that's what you're working on) - Fitting in to clothes that used to be too small. - Running your first mile, or something to that nature. - Not seeing the loss on the scale but seeing measurements drop.

Here is a super-simple recipe that is good with ground beef or ground turkey. 1 - pound ground beef/turkey 2 - 15 oz cans of VegAll, drained 2 - 15 oz cans tomato sauce or 1 can sauce and once can diced tomatoes Salt, pepper, garlic, hot sauce, etc. Brown the meat, drain it, add the vegetables and tomatoes. Heat and season…
