Congrats on beating cancers *kitten*!! My son was diagnosed with Leukemia last year and is 7mo out from a bone marrow transplant. I spent months sitting in a hospital room with him, and put on an extra 20+ pounds on top of my already overweight frame. Now I have over 100lbs to lose! I know being a caregiver is not the same…

Find something you can live with. No fad diets, no crash diets, no quick fixes. It's hard to beat that into our heads, but sometimes we have to. For ME, I'm finding lower carbs to be easier and more realistic to stick with in the long run. That said, I do have carbs. I'm not in the under 20 club or anything extreme. I set…

I do low carb, try to keep it under 75g a day. I find that is a happy medium for me and most days I'm well under. And I make sure to get my carbs from foods that are nutritious; ie, fruits and veggies. I stay away from pasta/breads etc. But, I also count calories. As calories in vs out, still matters. You can't eat more…

Shop frequently so you are buying fresh. It may cost more up front, but you throw away less food....and in the long run, save $$. A basic rule of thumb I try and follow is this: if you can kill it or grow it, you can eat it. My menu today: Breakfast: Almonds Lunch: Turkey breast and a whole avocado Snack: jerky Dinner:…

I need to lose a small person. LOL
-
My goal is 75 carbs a day. But I've gone as low as 20 or so, net carbs. I'm happy in the 75 range, though I find when I log, I tend to be quite a bit lower...unless I splurge with some wine.

I don't care if I lose 50lbs of water, as long as I lose 50lbs! LOL Carbs are bad for ME. Not to say I don't eat carbs, I just try and make them count for something nutritionally. Not much nutrition in bread, but it sure tastes good! But so does a bowl of fruit. And at least the fruit offers nutrition that the bread…

I do too. I'm 46 and aside from being obese (not from artificial sweeteners), I'm healthy. My son, on the other hand, who doesn't consume artificial sweeteners, was diagnosed with Leukemia last year. Go figure.

Biggest dream - To watch my son beat cancer, he is in remission and had a bone marrow transplant, but his journey is far from over. Add to that, they won't consider him cured for 4.5 more years. Biggest fear - Well, I think that's pretty obvious. Losing my son.

I understand not wanting to gain too much during pregnancy, when starting out heavy. But it has been my understanding that you should never ever try to lose weight once pregnant. Keeping your gain to a minimum, sure. And I agree....this needs to be addressed with your OB.

I'm a firm believer in making your calories count. IE, if they offer nutritious value, and they fit in your daily allowances, it's all good. Cut the empty calories (processed foods, pop, added refined sugar etc) if you need to lower your calories for the day....but enjoy the avocado. They are the perfect food.…

There is a forum on here for low carb/paleo. I will try and see if there is a way to post the link. I find paleo easier to stick to when starting out. But, like mentioned above, it's not a diet. It needs to be your new normal. I allow myself some carbs from natural sources like fruits and veggies as they offer a health…

I'm back on MFP after an 11mo break when my teenaged son was diagnosed with Leukemia. During that 11mo, I probably gained another 20+lbs, so now I need to lose well over 100lbs. I keep dabbling with trying to eat right, but keep coming up with excuses. I'm tired. I am my son's primary caregiver and I need to be healthier…

Yes, that is a very real possibility. I think they have to wait to see what happens from the chemo. Hurry up and wait, sucks!
-
So far, just chemo. He wraps that up tomorrow. Not sure what comes next yet.

Thanks. I have no desire to quit LCHF. I am worried my doc will ask me to change. Right now I only take pain meds at night. My daughter, who is is nursing school, suspects a false high, because the last 2 readings were done with a digital BP meter and done on my forearm. My arms are too big for the cuff to go on the upper…
-
1 reading was pre-op. 1 was urgent care for fall. Today was curiosity....and it was the highest yet! Thought maybe the readings were high because of hospital setting etc. Apparently not. LOL
-
Can't walk. Sitting in a boot at the moment....took a fall 2 days ago and my foot has to stay immobilized for 2 weeks. And to top it off, having shoulder surgery next week. Add to that, that I will have to take time off without pay...and bills to pay, I'm a hot mess.

We do Caesar salads quite frequently.
-
This sounds soooooooooo good!
-
Cause I have 4 kids, and I'm not cooking 2 different ways! So they eat what we eat. And I want variety on my plate. Not just one thing. That gets boring.
-
Avos I will do, and I love peppers....what is zoodles?
-
Yuck! LOL Well, that is 2 the first 2 for me. Hubby won't eat #3. I'm thinking a tomato salad (tomato and mayo and seasoning) and deviled eggs.
-
I did the opposite. I cut back the carbs, didn't cut them out. I started with allowing myself 75 carbs. Now, I rarely count them but I know I'm in the net 20-30 range most days. I no longer crave them. Even diet pop is now too sweet most days. I have 2 water bottles on my desk, and 3 more in my purse. 2 months ago, that…

I haven't set a goal. I don't know where I will end up. Anything is better then where I was. I just know I had to make a change. I celebrate every pound lost.
-
What is wrong with McD's? I get a snack there all the time.....double cheeseburger, plain and toss the bun. Nice little protein pick me up. Cheap and easy on the run!
-
I'm sitting here barely sipping on a diet pepsi and finding it disgustingly sweet. Heading out to my car to get a bottle of water because it's literally like drinking syrup. I'm amazed at how much my tastes have changed in just 2 months.
-
I am still as regular as ever. 4/11 last month, 5/7 this month. I have always been 26-28 days.
