Curve ball
Remember all the stresses in my life? Well we had a curve ball thrown at us. Our 18yr old son was diagnosed with AML....Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Saturday. We are living at the hospital and Ronald McDonald House for the next 3-4 weeks. If you are interested in following his journey, here is a FB group I made for him. It is…

I don't know if I can keep doing this.....
I want to, don't get me wrong. But I have had my bp taken 3x this week, and I'm high. 154/103 is my reading today. I admit, I'm under a crap ton of stress right now, so I'm hoping things settle down in a month or so. But I'm worried with all my upcoming medical appointments, my regular doc is going to want me on bp meds…

Constipation and low-carb?
Anyone else dealing with constipation? Best way to remedy that? In looking at my food log, I am eating less and less carbs every day, today I netted 18. I know my fiber could be better, but may have to take a fiber supplement. Will that help?

Almost 2 months in....
I'm eating less and less carbs (usually netting in the 20-30 range, but allow myself up to 75 though I rarely go there anymore...it seems so high now! LOL), tracking less in terms of calories, but have a general idea....and the scale is moving again. When I first started, I dropped about 12lbs right out of the…

Low blood sugar
So after a month of eating lower carb, I woke up feeling shaky and woozy. When I got to work, I went to see our nurse to have a fasting blood draw to see how it is affecting me. My blood sugar was 23. Our nurse was amazed I was still standing. Does anyone else have issues with low blood sugar while following a low carb…

How low to be LCD?
I am new here, and new to eating low carb. By most of your standards, I still eat a lot of carbs, but I'm eating way less then I use to. I have set my carbs at 75, and my net is below that. I've gone as low as 18 one day, but it wasn't intentional! I started by just cutting bread and pasta and the weight started coming…

How does this meal look?
I normally would have used regular chicken breast, but I had this on hand. I am hoping I did ok, because it was delish!

Reducing sodium.
I scrolled through what seemed like pages of food items hoping to find what I was looking for, but did not find it. I'm already up on my sodium today and I'm having WM Rotisserie chicken with steamed veggies for dinner. How much sodium will I cut by not eating the skin? I'm eating the breast if it matters.

Met my first goal!!
I've only been logging my calories for a month, and today, I hit 11.2lbs lost That is an official weigh in at the doctor! He couldn't be more pleased. I will be going for monthly weight checks to be sure that I'm staying on target and to help hold me accountable. My blood pressure was great. And the reports on my heart are…

New favorite treat?
For those of us who have elected to give up certain foods, what new treat have you found that helps keep you on track? I have found Green Giant Multugrain Sweet Potato chips for those times when nothing but a chip will do! They are 40 calories less per serving then Lays. And oh so yummy. They are high in sodium, so I still…

Eating out
How do you figure calories when you eat out? Restaurant does not have nutritional info posted. On a side note, it was the first night I have gone out to dinner since I have started making life changes 3 weeks ago and I feel like crap. Hubby and I even shared a meal, so it is not from eating too much. The way I feel right…

Swelling while exercising?
I went for a 2.5-3mile walk at a pretty good pace tonight. It is warm...over 80*. About 3/4 way through the walk I noticed my hands were VERY swollen and tight. I did have too much sodium today if that matters. Would that make a difference? Is it normal?

Losing large amounts of weight...caloric needs change?
Sorry, I don't know the proper terms. I skimmed a post the other day about how when you reduce your weight by over a certain percent your basic caloric needs go down for a certain period of time. At least that's what I took from it! Anyways, I lost over 100lbs about 4yrs ago, but gained it all back due to a variety of…

Taking pics
Remind me why taking pics is a good idea?!?! I just took pics and I am ready to drive the 10mi to the store for a pint of Ben & Jerry's! As if the scale wasn't bad enough...at least it was moving in the right direction. The pics are just depressing. I didn't realize I looked so bad. I mean, I know I am very heavy, but I…

Splurge dinner?
I have walked 70min today, so have an extra 500+ calories, plus I'm well under my calories for the day. If you had close to 1000 calories and could splurge, what would you eat? Needs to be low sodium and low cholesterol as I am pre-diabetic. :(

Water = constant bathroom breaks!
I have never been a good water drinker. So hitting 60oz today is a HUGE accomplishment. But man, I have never taken so many potty breaks! Can't imagine how bad it will be when I get up to 80oz!

High cholesterol, prediabetic, high risk of heart disease...
Apparently I'm a walking time bomb. :( Not sure how I should be eating given all my new diagnosis. Doc hasn't gone over a game plan yet. I have an appointment on 4/21. He is wanting me on Belviq. I've done weight loss meds before, successfully. Except it came back when I went off the meds because I started eating poorly…

Ready for change!
Hi all! I am Kay. I am 44, and according to the BMI chart, I am morbidly obese. Geez that sucks just typing that out! Anyways, I don't feel that way, overweight yes, but morbidly obese? No. Yes, I have over 100lbs to lose. fortunately I am tall (5'11")....and it is pretty spread out all over! I was never overweight until I…
