Yeah, I have no I problem eating all the protein I need this way. I take vitamin supplements as well so there's no problem there. I wonder though, do I need more than just extra calories when I exercise a lot?

If you're trying to lose weight, then no. If you're trying to gain weight, then yes. If you feel weak or sick or tired, then yes. If you feel awesome, then no. The most popular question on MFP. What are you goals. The most popular answer. It depends on your goals.

Weigh the uncooked meat, then weigh it cooked. Do this a few times to find a ratio. It can be tough when putting meat in a casserole or something, but that's why it's important to find out the ratio so you can use math to help. Personally I do my best to weigh my meat after it is cooked.

Just because I'm new here doesn't mean that new to lifting. And I've never heard of a pump lasting for 3 days. I'm tired of this thread. It's just gotten silly now.

If you do a little research, it's not hard to find people who have accomplished body recomposition you know.... In fact if you'd just scroll up a little you'll see a member here who did it.

I once tried a root beer flavored whiskey. Never again.

Yep I am in a big deficit. Greater than 1000 calories a day. But I'm also training my butt off. I'm losing 2 pounds a week. But my shirts are tighter in the chest and arms, my pants are loose in the waist. Yes I am building muscle and losing weight at the same time. ::gasp:: or maybe my clothing is changing size?!?!? Haha.…

I'll be your friend.

I've done some reading on this now. There are a lot of folks talking about body "recomposition" I don't think that it's out of the question for people who have not already reached the limits of their biology (most of us) It seems like maybe there are folks here who like to parrot what they've read in the internet without…

My current goal is 1600 net. I'll usually eat around 2600-3000 a day and work off the rest. I like my exercise bike :). I'm on it right now
-
I drink a beer just about everyday. But I also shoot for at least an hour of cardio everyday to account for it. If the calories from beer is a problem just exercise more to make up for it.

I've lost 4 pounds since I started MFP. Eating out doesn't really make me gain weight since I fit it into my macros as best I can.

I always think of running or sports when I think "healthy" Athletes are healthy right?
-
My wife and I are not eating out for the month. So far so good :) Leaves more money/calories for good home cookin'

We will be moving up to the Seattle area this fall for my wife's graduate program. If your still looking for cool stuff and friends to run with let us know.

nonono NO Portland is like Seattles dirty ugly drug addicted little cousin. :D Seattle will always be and has always been much much > portland.

On days that I want to eat more I work out more to cover it. Carbs tend to be less filling than protein and fats, so that might help?
-
Oh yeah that's for sure. I'm not expecting to gain as much as I lose. HAHA. :D That's just silly talk. Even If I were 50lbs over weight I think that'd be a hard thing to do.

I don't know if I would be considered "returning" But I did have an injury and an illness last fall, I didn't get back into working out until December. But it's been business as usual since then, except for the added cardio and the whole dairy thing. I did read an article that mentioned how if in the past your were more…

Your have a point there mrm27. We all want to be "special" right? We will see what happens in the long run for me. I know after I use my me fat stores I'll have to start eating a surplus if I want to make large gains. But for now I'm happy with weight loss and small gains.
-
I've read in other older threads here on mfp that there is a small % folks who can add muscle while losing weight. Could it be that I am one of the lucky few? I'm going to do some more reading on this. I'm not sure what to make of the fact that everyone and their mothers are saying what is happening to me is impossible.

The only problem is that I'm not new to lifting. Sorry :(
-
Dang, you're argument makes the sense too. I don't think that it's water in my muscles since I'm not new to lifting and I am losing weight. I'm lifting a little more then I have in the past, but that's just natural progression as I become stronger. The only thing I changed is that I'm doing cardio and eating a deficit. I…

This is interesting to me because I'm currently doing a ton of cardio (1000-1200 calories a day) eating a deficit of around 1000 and weight training. I just started keeping track of all of this stuff, but last week I lost 2 pounds. My arms, chest and legs feel bigger to me so I seem to be building muscle while losing fat.…
-
Yep I'm sure that I'm burning 1000+ calories a day :) thanks for asking though. And I'm quite sure that my chest arms shoulders and legs are larger than they were before. I'm losing weight as well. My pants fit better I weigh less. If you don't believe me I don't know what to tell you. It is happening.
-
I'm quite sure than I'm building muscle and losing fat at the same time with a >1000 calorie deficit. Are you sure you're not gaining muscle? EDIT: I just checked out your food diary, if your not gaining muscle it could be because your not hitting your protein goals.
-
I try to work out 7 days a week and I weight train 6 days a week. I do chest and triceps one day, shoulders and biceps one day and back one day, I also try to do abs every other day. But sometimes I'll mix it up and do tri's and bi's or back and shoulders on the same day. I ride a stationary bike 60-90 minutes everyday so…

I always thought that your TDEE should be calculated on lean body mass. Does all that extra fat really burn a lot of calories? Personally I don't think so.
-
Meat Fish Eggs and Vegetables? But really though. That's a miscalculation. 190 grams of protein is nuts for a normal person. Or are you a competitive body builder?

Losing weight and gaining muscle takes time. I hate that :)
