  • Great idea!
  • I'm similar. After years away, I've come back to myfitnesspal and am religiously recording calories. Since March 1 of this year, I've lost 8 lbs, roughly a pound a week, which is about the pace I want. I'm hoping to reach my goal weight by January or so, and then up my calories from 1200 to a maintenance level of 1600 or…
  • Stevia in my coffee every morning. I also like Splenda because it's so concentrated. If I'm eating out or at the coffee bar, I might use saccharin just for variety and it does taste pretty good. Not gonna lie, though, nothing beats sugar! I also have some manuka honey and have been putting a tbsp in my coffee lately.…
  • I have acid reflux from time to time. When it flares up, I have to take Tums roughly once an hour, I feel bloated all the time, and sleeping becomes uncomfortable. The only thing that has quelled these symptoms is low carb diet. I go low carb for 3-4 weeks, and gradually reintroduce fruits and some sweets (I have a sweet…
  • This is a great discussion. I've been back on MFP since May, have dropped maybe 10 lbs, and hoping/aiming to drop another 25-30 by end of year. I initially did a zero carb diet for three weeks, to shift my body into fat-burning mode, then started a strict caloric diet, mostly low carb except for some fruit every day. I…
  • To the op: A 24-hour fast every few months is no big deal. 7 days sounds extreme. There are lots of threads here on fasting, look'em up. My theory is that primitive humans didn't eat 3 square meals a day. Probably they went for hours or days without eating anything, then binged and gorged when they did find food, to hold…
  • Maybe vary your diet a bit? If you're having lots of red meat, switch to fish, or vice versa, and switch to different kinds of veggies. Surprise your body with a different exercise. Drink more water and less soft drinks, coffee, tea, etc. I've also found that an occasional fast seems to "reset" my metabolism, clear my…
  • Not sure but I think the food in your digestive tract may weigh more than the fat which it creates. There's water and fiber in the food (usually) that's going to be expelled. It is a fact though that a pound of fat contains about 3500 calories of energy.
  • Maybe you could go to a local gym and try their various cardio machines as well as weight bearing machines (Nautilus or equivalent). If you don't have a membership, some places will give you a courtesy pass for a day to try it out. It's possible there are some things you can do (elliptical machine? treadmill? cardio…
  • kow gurl, What I've noticed about myself is that I do these things--start on a diet, start an exercise program--when it "just feels right". I don't know why or how this happens, but I just wake up one morning and say, Yup, I'm gonna do it. And I do it. And if it's not the right time, I don't do it. I don't know if that's…
  • Big bowl of salad greens (organic mixed garden greens + lettuce) with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and soy sauce. 16 oz. glass of pomegranate juice pan fried salmon with olive oil, soy sauce.
  • I think it's what other mammals do. I saw my cat do it after birthing a litter of 4.
  • probably a glass of Martinelli's sparkling apple. Alcohol doesn't do much for me anymore. Just gives me headaches and makes me irritable the next day :)
  • banana (100 cals) Dannon Light-n-fit 6-oz. yogurt (80) quart of decaf with creamer, splenda (90) I eat breakfast at my desk; I'm usually first to work.
  • I've found that fasting for 24 hours seemed to break the plateau and get me back to losing weight. Best of luck, Bp
  • For jaded members with 1000+ postings, who can't stand to see old questions raised, here's a template to use: *********************** Welcome to the myfitnesspal chatboard! And thanks for posting your question. In brief, you should [eat your exercise cals] OR [avoid white carbs] OR [use peanut butter to make up cals] OR…
  • it's hard. My 7-yr-old daughter wakes up around 7:20am, and has to be out the door by 8am. I try to be up around 6am, hop on my Schwinn elliptical for 45-60 mins., then quick shower. If weather's good, I'll go running instead for 45 mins. If you don't have a machine, I can highly recommend it! You can just hop on any time…
  • I fast rarely, for religious reasons. I fasted for 24 hours recently and it broke me through my plateau. Since then, I've gained back 3-4 lbs but that is because I've gotten lax in my eating patterns and haven't had time to exercise. Now I'm cracking down again, because T-day is just around the corner and in my family,…
  • my daily diet is pretty boring. Breakfast: 1 qt decaf (+ Splenda, half-n-half) 90 cals 1 Dannon Light-n-Fit yogurt 80 cals 1 banana 100 cals 3-4 stalks of celery, 35 cals Lunch: fresh salad with olive oil, vinegar, soy sauce dressing 170 cals 1 apple 80 cals 2 clementines 70 cals CFDC 0 cals Supper: grilled skinless…
  • I also have found that I seem to lose more weight when I eat a light supper. A high protein, high fat supper results in greater weight in the A.M. It's hard these days because I feed my 6-year-old every night (while my wife works her evening job) and we end up eating a substantial dinner, plus dessert if she promises to…
  • You should lose enough weight to feel comfortable with your body. If you are happy with your weight, then good for you. Anyway, each body is different. Another 5'11" person may need to drop another 20 lbs to be at the "correct" weight.
  • My MIL only drinks it black, the stronger the better. I can only drink it loaded with Splenda and ½+½. She calls it the "melted ice cream effect". I dream of the day that I can enjoy coffee black, but for now it's my 90 calories/day indulgence. Maybe the OP can consider a vigorous 15 minute walk at lunchtime, and that will…
  • Thanks for a thoughtful comment. I don't advocate starvation mode; I just felt that cutting back on exercise might not be the best thing. I've always seen exercise as a very positive thing, especially in our slothful society. I guess it is possible to overdo it, though.
  • You can, actually. I'm here to learn and I have a thick skin.
  • Exercise more. In the long run, it's about health, not looks. No such thing as exercising less to achieve better health. You could eat a bit more, or vary your diet more, perhaps. I would definitely not try "exercising less" as a way to lose weight.
  • It sounds like a pretty decent lifestyle -- more Americans should do that much exercise and eat like that and we'd all be more healthy. I'm confused about the calorie thing though. 12 x 300 -500 = 3100. Minus another 500 = 2600. That sounds like a lot of calories. When I tell MyFitnessPal I weight 300 lbs and want to work…
  • Dump Eric.
  • I feel the same way. Good for you and keep it up!
  • Ribs -- any kind! Steak "macho" veggies (cauliflower or asparagus with spicy ranch dressing, for example) I wish my lady would provide me an accurate calorie count in advance of whatever she prepares, and that way I could plan my day--take an extra walk at noon, eat less for lunch, etc. Usually, though, I do the cooking :)
  • I usually eat back about 1/2 to 3/4 of my exercise cals, but I don't trust my calorie estimates and so I usually leave a couple hundred calories on the table. I figure, a deficit of 200 or 300 isn't going to push me into starvation mode. Tomorrow we're planning to go to an Old Country Buffet in our neighborhood; it's one…
