  • Yay for you!!
  • Good for you not being intimidated! I am on my first week and actually get a nervous stomach on the drive to the gym! I have used the dumbbells for biceps/triceps etc in the past but am out of my comfort zone now. I am terrified of the squat rack (did use the Smith Machine today though without incident :) and am generally…
  • Our new FAVORITE!! 4 chicken breasts 1 pkg dry Good Seasons Italian Dressing mix juice of 2 lemons Cook on low and shred! We serve it over brown rice with a side of broccoli. YUM!
  • Big old Olympic Bar forward lunge it is! Thanks!
  • Thanks for the suggestions! I have been working up to lifting heavier weights for a few weeks following another routine. I'm trying to really push myself! Is it as effective to NOT alternate legs and do more of a static lunge? I'm assuming that is how it would be done if in the Olympic rack?
  • Thanks for checking those numbers for me! I have the hardest time figuring out what activity level I should be at. When I'm not exercising I'm spending a lot of time sitting at kids's sporting events or driving them around. I do teach Preschool three mornings a week so I'm standing/walking etc. I then do about an hour of…
  • Today was my second workout of Stage 1. Felt a little less conspicuous today. I have been going around 1pm so the gym is pretty slow. I'm kind of convinced that some people are just there to chat though. Thankfully I have an awesome trainer friend that clarified a few things for me. She showed me the Smith Machine for…
  • I'm right there with you. I'm already signed up for a race at the Illinois Marathon in April. We are doing a 5k Friday night and 10k Saturday morning. (Last year did the half and am so glad I'm not signed up for that!) We are not fast so more of a steady jog and most runs should be less than an hour. Hoping that this…
  • I just wanted to say "Good Luck" on your race! I feel your pain as I signed up for a Half last spring and after all that running, I did not lose an ounce!! I thought it was a sure fire way to get the weight loss started! Like you, I think I wasn't eating enough. I also developed plantar fasciitis which took me a full…
  • Thanks! The support in this group is amazing! I am very appreciative of your time!
  • Thanks so much for the input! I am already finding myself able to figure out which exercises I can still go heavier on such as the squats, row etc. I think I may actually ask for a barbell for my birthday (crazy!) so that I have the option to keep going heavier. (Sometimes the problem is gripping the heavy dumbbells after…
  • FROZEN BANANA "ICE CREAM" freeze a banana then blend (i use magic bullet) with 1/2 T of unsweetened cocoa powder (and a splash of milk if needed to get it going) Makes the perfect fake ice cream!!
  • Good for you!! I just completed the Warrior Dash--Illinois two weeks ago and had a great time. The most important thing for me was to run with good friends!! It was great to stay together and cheer each other on for each of the obstacles!! C25K would be a good place to start. Even though you take running breaks to do the…
  • I am just beginning here and have no personal success yet to share but for the people interested in the science of, it I can point you towards a book I just finished a book called The Smarter Science of Slim by Jonathan Bailor. The book is written by a man who took the past ten years of studies and explains them. The…
  • It wasn't me but I love your profile pic. I just did the Illinois Warrior Dash this past Sunday and looked JUST like you!!
  • I just finished reading The Smarter Science of Slim book and found it very interesting. I found it very disturbing when the author shared that companies such as Hershey and Coca-Cola have a place within organizations that are supposed to be telling us how to be healthy! I thought the book was well-written and full of good…
  • Thanks for the input. It's a hard concept for a life-long dieter! Danielle
  • Thanks ladies. I think my sister is going to try the 5k too and she isn't running at all right now so will probably walk/run. I may hang with her just to say I did it! Kind of wimping out but still there! Thanks!
  • My first is in June too in Illinois! I am really looking forward to it!! I'm about to run a half-marathon in three weeks and figure that will get me through the running (although I hear the hills are tough) and doing some strength training too. I am in it for the fun though and can't wait!!
  • I'm right there with you! I signed up for the exact same reason. My race is three weeks away and I haven't lost a pound. My clothes don't seem to fit differently either. If anything, I have eaten too little during most of my training and have recently upped my calories trying to see if the scale will move no matter how…
  • Thanks so much! I will check them out! I can use all the help and encouragement I can get!
  • Target has great stuff that you can also order online. If $ were not an option I'd order from www.athleta.com. They have the cutest fitness clothes, bathing suits, and run around clothes!! Not very expensive but with three kids their stuff always seems to come first! :) Enjoy!
  • I am doing Hal's Novice 1 program and run only 4 days a week, cross on two days and rest on one. I think the rest day is very important too! I think the most important run is the long run and wouldn't skip that for sure. I am sure you are in great cardio health from teaching your classes and know that you still need some…
  • I had read that chocolate takes away the bad taste immediately so I let my son have 2-3 m&ms or chocolate chips immediately after swallowing the meds. He has them in his hand ready to go the minute he swallows and he says it takes the bad taste away.
  • I still use them when I train alone but luckily I am running the race with a friend and we chat through all of our runs at this point. I know they have had two races around here in the last few years that they ended early due to heat/humidity becoming dangerous and people didn't hear the call to clear the course due to…
  • I tried so hard to like them and HATED them. Rubbery texture and couldn't get over the fishy smell no matter how carefully I rinsed them. Yuk, bad memory!
  • Thank you! I think this concept is hard for people to realize. MFP has already done the work calculating the deficit for you without exercise!
  • If you like lemon, try this.... (from 400 Calorie Fix cookbook) 4 tilapia fillets 1 T olive oil 2 T lemon juice 2 t grated lemon peel 1 t dried oregano 1/4 t salt 1/8 t pepper Put all in dish, turn to coat tilapia and let it sit 10 minutes then bake until done. My kids LOVE this and it doesn't taste fishy at all!
  • We had our 3 yr old Goldendoodle when we got a little puppy and did the puppy training classes. It was mostly for socialization but also for reminders for us and the kids as they came to class too. The best thing was that I swear our older dog was the best teacher/trainer for the puppy!
