Thank you for your responses. It may benefit me to try Paleo for a couple weeks, then slowly introduce dairy and grains back in to see what affects me. I know I would greatly benefit from cutting out gluten so in the long run, I may not end up going full paleo, but I'll be eating what is best for my body. I know the paleo…

That does seem too restrictive. I'm going to do as much research as possible before making a decision.

I don't like the gym atmosphere and I'm honestly just too self conscious to work out in front of others. A few good exercise dvds, exercise programs On Demand, and the great outdoors are what work for me.

I'm 5' 11" and my metabolism seemed to have shut down the day I turned 40. I have about 35 pounds left to lose and it's been a struggle, but I'm finding my motivation again. I hate when people say that I carry the weight well because I'm tall. That just doesn't matter when I'm 2 sizes bigger than I was a few years ago. I…

The ketogenic diet is primarily used for children with epilepsy. From what I remember, the high fat to low carb ratio helps control seizures. How has this diet helped you, and aren't you concerned with what this type of diet does to your heart and arteries? No judgement here, I'm just curious about your choice.

I'm right where you are now, discouraged, but I'm also feeling hopeful. For the first time in a long time, I finally realized I am the one who can control what I eat and if I exercise. No one is forcing me to eat junk food and sit on my butt. I decide if I'm going to let a bad day or a nasty person affect my diet. I'm not…

Thanks everyone for the great tips and motivation! It's good to know I'm not the only soda addict out there.

I had my "a-ha" moment a few weeks ago when walking up a couple flights of steps and ending up so out of breath. Turning 40 in January is another motivator. Congratulations on reaching your goal weight!

I weigh myself every Friday morning. I like to splurge a bit on the weekend and I can burn it off by the next Friday. I found this older post about why the scale numbers fluctuate, written by Renee Cloe, an ACE certified personal trainer. People who weight themselves every day are often let down thinking they have gained…

My youngest is 32 months old so I really can't blame him for my extra weight anymore! I'll add you:smile:

Great! I just printed that bad boy out and stuck it on my fridge.

Abso-freaking-lutely. I've always said I'm the only one who can take control of my eating habits.

Thanks everyone. I just have to stop buying it, I know that. Out of sight, out of mind, I hope. A bad habit can be hard to break, but I am determined. I've come too far to continue to hold onto old habits. Luckily, since drinking more water, I now crave it to the point where I'm drinking anywhere from 8 to 12 cups of water…

No nonsense approach, I agree.

Congratulations! You are an inspiration:smile:

I'll be 40 at the beginning of January and I called my original goal "Forty by 40", but got too late of a start to make that goal possible. I am on my way, slowly but surely. Please feel free to add me for support.

I'm 5'11" and have a little under 40 pounds to lose. I'm always looking for motivation and people I can motivate. Anyone can feel free to add me!

Hi, I'm turning 40 in January. That is one of the reasons why I started taking my health more seriously. 40 scares me! Anyone is welcome to add me:smile:

I'm 39, mother of two, and new to the message boards. If anyone wishes to friend me, please do so. We're all in this together!

I have the best success with exercise in the morning, so it's just a matter of getting to bed earlier and setting that alarm! I admit that I am terrible at time management and I make excuses, promising I'll do it tomorrow. This is a good time to really take a long, hard look at what makes up my week and what I can shuffle…

Thank you! I do need a mission, and it's always on my mind, it's always just a matter of making it happen.

I'm at 1200 calories as well. I'm new to the message boards so anyone feel free to add me. Let's support each other and reach our goals!

You are definitely not alone. It is really hard for everyone here, no matter how much weight we need to lose. Changing what we have known our entire lives is not an easy task. I am having a tough time, too, but I am taking things slowly. Know that you are a strong person, a confident person, a beautiful person inside and…

For me, the turning point only happened a couple days ago. I'm over 40 pounds overweight at this point but because I am tall, people say there's no way I gained that weight, but I'm not comfortable and I feel so self conscious about my appearance, I also suffer from mild depression so I use food as an emotional blanket. A…
