I'm almost 40, have never been especially athletic, and along with some thyroid issues, the weight just takes forever to come off with just healthy eating. My job has me on my feet and I have a toddler, so I'm pretty much always on the move, just not enough to make a difference. I know that I need to exercise, but something always seems to get in the way. I work late at night so when I get home, I am wide awake and can't get to sleep until almost 2, then have to get up at 6:30 with the kids for school. I full well know I should just attempt to go to bed when I get home, but the email needs to be answered, the living room needs to be cleaned up or I catch up on shows on the dvr. It's the only time of the day where I'm completely alone so I enjoy the quiet. Joining a gym just isn't my thing, and besides, that's not the problem, It's just that I need motivation. Anyone out there with the same problem, and how did you get and stay motivated? Anyone just want to yell at me to get my butt out of bed earlier to pop in that exercise dvd?

Absolutely...its so hard to actually pop an exercise DVD in or even step outside the house for a constructive walk/jog.

I'm making it my mission to walk at least 10 miles per week. A mile should roughly take about 13-15 mins so half an hour a day for 2 miles seems doable... So far not done too terribly. Managed 6 miles so I have some work to do today (Sunday afternoon)

    you can do this!!!!

join a walking challenge to help get a certain # of miles in( as previous poster mentioned that walking is good :) ) Or do the same for biking or swimming. There usually is a challenge for this for the month. Or start C25K program, that will 'encourage' you to spend 30 - 40 min 3 x a week to begin running. Maybe set a timer when you come home to give you x minutes to get 'settled' at home then pop a DVD in when the timer goes off and exercise. Maybe check e-mail etc after working out? Sometimes you have to change your routine a bit to make room for exercise and fit in the chores in a different time slot. It has worked for me, 'stuff' still gets done but I manage to run 3-4 times a week and do Yoga 4-6 x a week. Never thought I'd have the time  Of course it is nice to have someone nudge you a little but if that does not work it helps to have some plan to stay motivated. Once you are in the habit of getting some exercise it should become something you want to make time for! Good luck

Thank you! I do need a mission, and it's always on my mind, it's always just a matter of making it happen.

I have the best success with exercise in the morning, so it's just a matter of getting to bed earlier and setting that alarm! I admit that I am terrible at time management and I make excuses, promising I'll do it tomorrow. This is a good time to really take a long, hard look at what makes up my week and what I can shuffle around to make time for my health. The time is there, I just have to stop filling it with unnecessary things. Thank you for your help!
