OK I am now certain that either the interface is flawed, or I have no idea what I am talking about. I just changed my activity level around to test. I chose each of the 4 options from Sedentary to Very Active. After I made the change for each, I then went into custom and set my goal to specific calorie goal. Each time I…

Here is the thing: I do all of that. I pick a system, I pay attention, and I know what works and what doesn't. I am getting results, and that's all that matters. The point of asking this question is out of curiosity, not concern.

@kruggeri - I almost ALWAYS go over by about 500c. I set it at 100 deficit because on days that I bike >30miles, I don't want to eat that much food. Some days, I am looking at 5000c to eat back, and I don't like eating that much, but I also never want to go below 1000c deficit. It's just easier that way. At the very least,…

@cm9178 1000 cal deficit. The 240 different is between using sedentary and lightly active. It would be 250 but you cant go under 1200 as a base. 250 also happens to be the starting difference between sedentary and lightly active, so the fact that I was at the same number at the end of the day means that MFP is not being…
-
@Cc215 - Not snotty, just unresolved. @snugglesmacks I understand that at the start of the day, there could be a discrepancy. The numbers I posted were taken at 11pm.
-
@Cc215 did you read the thread? I am aware that it does not. The whole point is that I think it should replace it, based on how they integrate. And just like you said, FB monitors my burn (aka measures). So, MFP should not need an estimate by the end of the day, say, 11pm. @snugglesmacks its not that it does or doesn't…

finally had a chance to sit down and change from lightly active to sedentary and back. There is a large discrepancy. ~11pm Lightly Active Goal 1440 food 3270 exercise 2140: 939 biking, 644 running, 557 FB adjustment NET: 1130, remaining 310 Sedentary Goal 1200 (I think it would actually be 1190) food 3270 exercise 2140:…

Actually, until about 10 minutes ago, it was set to personalized and I changed it to sedentary. I would rather it didn't assume a certain activity level.
-
@woofer00, I have a similar motivation. Every walk I take means I get to eat a little bit more. I set an aggressive deficit, so I don't allow myself to go below it. I am not concerned with it changing throughout the day, I am just looking for the most accurate starting point, and setting level - knowing that this is all…

With sedentary, its not so much setting a BMR, as just setting an initial estimate, correct? Basically, it would be the same as choosing an activity level in MFP, except that this one is edited by activity directly? Thanks, I will try to do similar testing, although I have a birthday dinner tonight so it may not happen…
-
Its answers my question in that I EXPECT that behavior. I have not yet seen it happen though, thus prompting the post. For the Fitbit "Daily Calorie Estimate Setting," would setting it to sedentary basically just mean that I only get calories I ACTUALLY walk or log, rather than the estimate of an average activity level?…
-
I imagine this will need to take place toward the end of the day? @TheVirgoddess @cm9178 To start with, what settings for both MFP and FB do you suggest? And thank you guys, I feel like you all finally understand me. Sorry it took so long to articulate.
-
I sync often throughout the day, especially after longer periods of movement, or when I am running low on available calories left to eat.
-
@TheVirgoddess - What you are suggesting, I am not experiencing with my integration. And yes I have thought about getting a composition test, but they are only accurate in the moment they are taken. It isn't something I can continuously monitor. In your last post: - What do you mean? I have my deficits match, but I havent…
-
@TheVirgoddess I guess what I meant is does MFP adjust your BMR due to strength training. My BMR is likely higher than average because of my lean mass. ( I tried to come up with the least douchey sounding way to say that. )
-
@Kruggeri, I am not actually that close to my goal. I had set it a while back, and got closer to the weight, re-evaluated, lowered the goal, got closer, etc etc. The point is, I dont know what my goal weight is because I dont have an accurate way to measure %bf. But to answer your question, the closer I get, the more…
-
@TheVirgoddess , that's what started all this. I had done one or the other, but at the end of the day, out of curiosity, i started doing some testing. For some reason, the numbers would change if I switch from sedentary to lightly active. At the very least, do you understand why I feel as though they should end up the…
-
And the reason I adjust the activity level is to test the outcome. Having to choose something that limiting is frustrating, and finding that it does actually impact the end result, even though I have a better option to provide an estimate is more frustrating.
-
That's the issue. I have a sedentary job at work, but a very active lifestyle outside of work, which is why I bought the fitbit to begin with. I know it's an estimate, and I was hoping for a better estimate than just telling MFP that I am either sedentary or lightly active. I use the fitbit the same way I use my HRM for…
-
Ok, I think at this point, we are going in circles without meaningful resolution. Yes, my numbers adjust constantly throughout the day as I move more. When I am talking about the numbers changing, what I am referring to is that if i change my activity level from sedentary to lightly active, the end result changes, and IMO,…
-
@TheVirgoddess - what does turning off calorie estimation do? - @CM9178 - I do think you understand my question @TheVirgoddess - When I say it changes, I mean I AM CHANGING IT. My point is that because I am using a fitbit (see: Relying on fitbit's estimate, rather than MFP), the end result should not change regardless of…
-
set to lightly active, which i am considering changing. I have a desk job, but I also am highly active (running, biking, kettlebell training, and I walk everywhere when im not at work). 2,440 cal/day and then a 1000c deficit 193 remaining (ive eaten 1,251 and fitbit has given me back4 so far) fb adjustment is +4
-
Yes for both. Like I said, the integration works in that data transfers. fitbit will receive my logged activities, and MFP will receive an update from fitbit, both positive and negative.
-
Yes. The integration works, in a data transfer sense. The question I have been trying to answer is why there are different outcomes depending on what activity level I choose.
-
RIGHT!!!!!! The the problem is that the numbers change. I tested both activity levels, and the calories left changes. That shouldn't happen.
-
@CM9178, the point is, I AM using fitbit, so it shouldn't matter what I set my TDEE in MFP to. At the end of the day, whether I set it (aka guessed) that I was sedentary, or lightly active, or whichever, fitbit should then sync, and basically tell MFP how much I ACTUALLY burned, and then compare it to what MFP says I ate.
-
@CM9178, I tested this at the end of the day. I thought that might be the case, but even at the end of the day, you end up with two different results. Am I alone in thinking that your fitbit activity should dictate your daily goal, regardless of the base activity level you set?
-
I understand how it currently works. I am suggesting that it doesn't work properly. Fitbit knows my age and weight, and then it measures my activity. With all of that, it would make more sense to override the MFP activity level. I dont know what my MFP activity level is. I have an office job, but I am also VERY active out…
-
@Kruggeri, I probably should have posed that as a question, rather than a statement. Do you see where I am coming from?
-
Let's say that I set my MFP goal to sedentary, and end up with 1500c. Now let's say Fitbit says I have burned 1800c that same day. Fitbit would add 300 cal to make up the difference, and my goal would/SHOULD be 1800. Now, lets say day after day, I notice the same results, so I change MFP to Lightly Active, and end up with…
