  • Wearing pants a size smaller to work now-a-days and even those want to slip down. I had to go in a bra hook. I really upped my resistance on the elliptical and although I could feel every moment of it, still squeaked out 30 minutes and then 20 minutes on the bike. People are saying "you look a lot smaller, are you losing…
  • She looks great! I love the picture of her in the old pants--her smile is amazing!
  • I make sure to drink a glass of water with every meal. But really, prevention of hunger is the best suppressant. Snacks that include protein and fat help to keep me on track.
  • Now I'm considering getting a pressure cooker! I love my stand mixer and my food processor. The stand mixer is so handy when I'm baking for the holidays and the kids can really help to add in the ingredients. My food processor was great when I was making homemade baby food and it's still great for thickening soups, making…
  • We don't get too many runners on the road with snow storms though as a driver it does make me a bit nervous. I'm always a bit concerned with what would happen if I lost control of the car but I have faith that those running in poor conditions are also being extra vigilant.
  • I use essential oils as a facial moisturizer (rose hip, jojoba and a few drop of lavender) instead of lotions but I don't ingest them. Tiny amounts of essential oils are found in some foods we ingest and are also sometimes used for flavoring candies and such, but such a tiny amount is used that it is completely different…
  • Hmmmm, I would be wary as well. My cholesterol was a bit high but my liver functioning is poor so no statin for me. I got the blessing to do a higher fat diet from my endocrinologist who is much more worried about a1c than cholesterol.
  • I don't think it matters as long as you have appropriate safety gear for hours when the sun is down or running in snowy/icy/extreme conditions.
  • I'll be honest, I've been on it for about 8 weeks now and this is the first week I haven't had any GI distress. Pretty exciting!
  • Yes, you'll improve. We all do! Just keep setting reasonable goals for yourself, and try to find an activity that you enjoy! I've improved a lot over just 8 weeks. I'm excited to see where I'll be 8 weeks from today.
  • I do mine in the evenings. Mornings are too hectic with getting my kids ready for school, so I do it after they go to bed. I like to hit the gym by 8:30 pm.
  • Ok, so I'm not super up-to-date with ordinary Cuban fare, but I live in an area with an enormous Puerto Rican and Dominican population and a big staple of their diet is fatty meat, rice and beans. So I would say to eat the same, but less. Measure out to portions and use the recipe builder to be more accurate. Eat the foods…
  • Just popping on to say that you CAN lose weight even if your TSH is not in range. It certainly is possible if you log your food and do some physical activity to account for any errors with BMR calculations. I'm losing with a TSH of 13.1 (Hashimoto's). I say this only to give hope. For me, physical activity is a must. I…
  • Pregnancy symptoms can be all over the place! For my first son I maintained the same med dosage and for my second son I had to increase my dosage!
  • IF you do want to cut it out, what about roasting a chicken and slicing that down for your own lunchmeat? I personally use deli meats even if they are higher in sodium, but if you truly do wish to avoid them, a little prep on Sunday could still net you some nice wraps during the week!
  • I definitely post bigger losses during the weeks where I could only hit the gym once or twice, and I attribute that to my body not holding extra water for muscle repair. Posting smaller losses because you are doing some strength training is so worth it to me. I just feel better, think better, and feel stronger.
  • Personally, I do my 30-40 minute cardio session first and then do my strength training. I know a lot of people lift first, but I feel like my muscle strength gets depleted doing it that way while doing cardio first helps me to be more energized. I have two kids though so I have to maximize all of my gym sessions because…
  • I'm not really sure as I think all cases are different. Mine is an autoimmune disorder, so my body is making antibodies that essentially attack the thyroid gland, weakening it and destroying it over time. I started on 25 mcg way back in the day and I'm now at 150 mcg. I work with my family doctor and an endocrinologist to…
  • Good suggestions...if it continues they should probably also run a test for any thyroid-specific antibodies. You can have "normal" TSH levels and have thyroid antibodies floating around. I lose hair like that every day. I also have Hashimotos (autoimmune thyroid disease). Luckily I have LOTS of hair.
  • I do cardio and strength training three times a week. The cardio is to give me a nice calorie cushion (I have hypothyroidism so my true BMR is a bit mysterious--cardio helps me to be sure I'm eating a deficit) and to help my overall fitness and the strength training/weights are to help me to preserve lean muscle mass while…
  • I have Hashimoto's as well. I was diagnosed early on, at only 11. I'm now 33. I've been taking Levothyroxine for what seems like forever! @Tazlina39 I had labs done last year and imagine my shock when my TSH was 28!!!! Yikes! My labs in June showed I'm still high, at just over 13. I get labs at the end of the month…
  • Went down a shirt size and recently had to buy jeans TWO SIZES smaller. Also, I've gone from walking a 17-minute mile to doing a 2.75 mile on the elliptical in 30 minutes.
  • I think it is called lactic acidosis. I might be having surgery in November and I'll have to stop taking Metformin for 24-48 hours before to avoid the possibility of it.
  • So if diet soda is going to trigger my insulin response (and I'm a Type II diabetic), wouldn't I see some evidence of that when using my glucose meter? But I don't ever see any evidence of this happening at all. For the OP--I drink diet soda, and sparingly. I use it as my treat after I've gotten my water in for the day. I…
  • I'm not sure what cardio you do, but the cardio I do works my muscles, which then have to recover. I also strength train after cardio, so it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. And really, there are so many different types of cardio. Find something you like! I've also started incorporating my kids (5 and 6) into some of…
  • I think it is a very personal choice, to be honest. I hope to one day be off of all medication for diabetes. Is this doctor an endocrinologist, or your family doctor?
  • I'm not a huge meat fan either. In fact, I was a vegetarian for 8 years before I fell pregnant with my first son. Because there are few meats that I like and most of the ones that I'll eat are lean I do get protein from cheese, Greek yogurt, and beans. I allow myself 100 carbs daily to account for this. I just can't force…
  • The difference in your face is amazing! Congrats!
  • My personal aim is to be under 120 two hours after a meal. That was my goal when I had Gestational Diabetes and I've just never changed it. My fasting goal is to be under 100 though I can't seem to get myself there.
  • Amish country in PA. No, I'm not Amish :D @auntneen I drive through Elmer and Woodstown areas to go down the shore a few times each summer. Wildwood...woot!
