  • Instead of using cream of chicken soup, just use diced chicken, and maybe some low sodium chicken broth. There's already sour cream and butter to give it a creamy texture, even if you switch that to light SC and margarine.
  • I've gone from consistently walking 1.5-2 miles (and struggling a bit) in June to consistently walking 3 miles (with ease). I don't go as often as I'd like because it's the rainy season here, but I'm pretty proud of the improvement. I often chat with a friend, and he's noticed the improvement just in the decrease of my…
  • I've been around 1200-1400 pretty consistently for a long time. Most of my meals are wrapped in a low carb tortilla. You don't have to go on a low carb diet, but the tortilla is only 70 calories. Meatball sub? On a tortilla. Panini? On a tortilla. Pizza? Tortilla thin crust. Nachos? Baked low carb tortilla chips, with bell…
  • Cheesecake flavored pudding with peanut butter mixed in tastes like a Butterfinger. It's not super healthy, but it's a nice treat. Maybe swirl some sugar free chocolate syrup in it. For Thanksgiving I made mashed 'fauxtatoes'. Roasted cauliflower, turnip, and garlic pureed in a food processor with butter, salt, pepper,…
  • This is probably the worst picture that's ever been taken of me. Not sure what my weight was here, but I suspect it's a bit higher than the next picture. This was October of 2013. My first actual 'before' picture when I decided I needed to make a change. 216.5 pounds. April of 2014. This was taken today. I'm hovering…
  • Opa by Litehouse Greek yogurt dressings. That feta dill is insane. The blue cheese is a staple around here. We mix it with sour cream and eat it with chips. I do a similar thing with the ranch, and add chipotle powder to it.
  • I enjoy tuna, and fried cod or whatever. But other than that, seafood is the worst.
  • Ah, that appears to be Net Calorie Burn. Most calculators seem to use Total Calorie Burn. I wouldn't call that an 'overestimate' because both figures are still accurate based on the equation used. One just shows all calories burned, the other shows calories burned, minus what you would've burned without exercising. Now,…
  • We actually did pizza tonight, so here's my St. Louis style on a low carb tortilla- It was about 430 calories, but worth it. I think it worked out to about 12g of carb, but it had a lot of onion. For comparison, mom's boyfriend ordered a medium Domino's Extravaganzza, and each slice (1/8 of the pizza) is 26g of carb. This…
  • If that's true, then every calculator I can find is wrong? They all show the same ballpark figure, give or take 30 calories.
  • Spinach artichoke parmesan dip with red/green bell peppers, garlic and onions. Served with Mission brand low carb tortilla chips. Broccoli cauliflower cheese soup, with carrots, onions, garlic, turnips, celery. I like to add freshly sauteed mushrooms to my bowl right before eating. Pizza on a yeasted Carbquik crust.…
  • I walked a full 5k today!!! I was slow, but it's a new personal best regardless. 59 minutes to go 3.24 miles. I'd love to be able to do 10k in that time eventually.
  • My mom's diabetic, and I've been keto for over a year. We have low-carb Thanksgiving. Last year I made an almond flour based stuffing. This year I'll do a yeasted Carbquik bread for it. Instead of mashed potatoes, it's roasted cauliflower, turnips, and garlic, pureed with parmesan cheese (it's actually better than any…
  • For walking I use the Map My Walk app, which syncs up with My Fitness Pal. It calculates calories burned based on body weight, distance, and speed.
  • I eat a lot of low-carb tortillas and Carbquik, both of which are very high fiber. The problem is that they seem to be all insoluble fiber with no soluble fiber. So when baking with Carbquik I'll add flax meal to balance that out. Mission brand Carb Balance tortillas make excellent tortilla chips. Cut into triangles,…
  • Any dessert can be made waaaay lower calorie just by replacing the sugar with something like Truvia baking blend. You end up cutting your calories-from-sugar by 75%. If you use straight erythritol, you remove all of those calories. Any dessert that calls for cream cheese, use light cream cheese. Any dessert that calls for…
  • My current mini goal is probably stupid, but I'll take whatever motivation I can get right now. There's entirely too much back-story here for context/explaining why this goal is important to me, and because I'm notoriously long-winded, so the tl;dr is I'm trying to lose 8 pounds by the end of November (4 gone so far!).…
  • That was just one of quite a few other more direct sources that I sort of cherry picked because I didn't think anyone would really be interested in tackling this monster- https://www.nature.com/articles/0803699 There's an interesting bit in there about chocolate cravings during the luteal phase as well.
  • Here is a source, by the way. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3766447 Granted that test was only done on 10 people, but I've read a handful of articles all making similar statements. I mean, if we round that down to 100 calories a day for the sake of margin of error, and lower body weights, it's only 1/5th of a pound a…
  • I feel stupid bringing it up in a forum of people who regularly talk about running marathons, but... I've gone from walking a 21 minute mile to walking-interspersed-with-jogging a 17.5 minute mile. I can only hold out for 2 miles at that pace (though I'm sure I could've handled 3 miles if it hadn't gotten dark out), but…
  • This dress is my most recent NSV-
  • I'd call it about 150-200 calories per cup if you can see oil. Last time I made borscht I lightly fried/sauteed the cabbage and onions in a bit of oil before it went in the pot. And my beets and carrots were oven-roasted and tossed with a bit of oil as well.
  • I accidentally walked for almost an hour and a half, instead of my usual 28 minutes. I wasn't tracking my pace or distance because I was playing Pokemon Go, but I'm pretty sure it was around 2.5-3 miles instead of my typical 1.3.
  • I hope it's not too annoying that I'm posting another nsv outfit picture so soon after the last, but I can't begin to describe how amazing it feels to put on a nice dress and not look like a pregnant man in a dress. I still have a bit of a gut, but the right outfit hides it pretty well now. I haven't looked this acceptable…
  • My most recent NSV was rocking this outfit.
  • My favorite jacket fits better today than it did when my mother bought it for me 15 years ago.
  • I got a really nice pair of black jeans at Walmart for about $8. You can always resell them to someone for a few bucks. I'm kinda surprised there's not like a clothing exchange/resell thread around here.
  • I've been on keto since early September. I started for reasons other than weight loss, but I have dropped 15 pounds since starting because I feel full all the time on this diet, so I eat fewer calories. Broth and pickles help ease symptoms of keto flu. Pepperoni chips are amazing. Place pepperoni on a double layer of paper…
  • I got one of those 'Facebook Memories' popups this morning. It was a pic from 2 years ago that I took for a magazine interview. I was already down about 25 pounds at that point. I'm down a total of 55 pounds now. I went out yesterday and happened to take a selfie, so when I got that popup I was hyper aware of the…
  • An avocado a day shall increase what you weigh. ;) Super portable, lots of healthy fat, comes in its own serving bowl. I get the jumbos at Costco and they're around 250 calories. Or, turn it into dip and eat it with 250 calories of chips. Alternately, turn it into chocolate mousse and eat with graham crackers.
