  • In one sense: No law against it. In another: Not for long.
  • If my weight fluctuates much with water weight it is because of too much salt. Half your body weight huh? First thing I do on awakening is empty the bladder. The second thing is weigh myself and record weight in a spreadsheet. Sunday's second thing in the morning weight gets entered in MFP check-in. If a loved one ever…
  • I think this is the kind of stuff the op is talking about. If so, presuming you followed the package directions, use the nutrition info label data. If you only eat part of the box, the most accurate strategy is to weigh the whole batch after cooking, then weigh what you eat and log the % of the total.
  • I haven't made white rice in years. Lately been using brown basmati. If cooking with water I substitute chicken bouillon for salt. To reduce sodium I usually substitute Worcestershire for soy sauce. Folks aren't gonna like this but rice one of those foods that, if it's bland, blame the cook. You can use all type and manner…
  • Onions, peppers, and garlic sautéed with any protein or potatoes or beans are terrific and the basis for lots of traditional meals from almost every culture. Add a little celery and it is a cajun trinity. Use chili peppers in place of bell peppers and its a Carribean or Latin American sofrito. Minor adjustments make it…
  • Lunch July 7: Fried Rice Out of lettuce but 7 grams of dandelions supply 45% of RDA of Vitamin K. I substitute Worcestershire Sauce or Balsamic Vinegar for Soy sauce to reduce sodium.
  • I cut a wide-pan slice of whole wheat toast into a dozen pieces and top with about 1½ ounces of homemade cheese spread (https://cronometer.com/food.html?food=7479323&amount=1&measure=19038104&labelType=AMERICAN). Not diet food necessarily but a nutritious snack or lite meal at about 250 calories.
  • Last night's dinner for one. Pan seared tilapia, basmati brown rice, buttered green beans.
  • Today's diet wasn't very well balanced but it was well below the calorie goal and very satisfying. Made about 1½ pounds of taco filling this morning and had four tacos for breakfast, about 550 calories. By dinner time I was hungry but a Mexican pizza, about 850 calories, took care of that nicely. Figured to have a salad…
  • Aerosol Duck Fat gets my vote for the dumbest new product I've seen in a while.
  • Breakfast this morning was a small green salad with tomato and a 4 minute boiled egg. Dressing was the yoke with a couple teaspoons lemon juice. No picture though. Last night made hickory smoked pork loin slices and potato; smoked a red potato while I was it and added a little ketchup and tomatillo salsa.
  • Much could be said. Here are four suggestions. Watch for sales on: 1. Canned tomatoes. Diced is a good option and Hunts is a good brand that will go on sale but store brands are good too. A can of tomatoes, ¼ diced onion, 1 garlic clove, ¼ grated carrot, ½ tsp. dried herbs (thyme, marjoram, or oregano for instance) and one…
  • Not for everybody but it suits me fine. The machines in the one I go to are Cybex. Also, pretty sure the trainer is, or will soon be a franchise owner. That makes a difference and is probably pretty unusual.
  • I think I get it. Thankfully, the morning fasting blood sugar readings are all I have to do.
  • Recording it in the notes makes sense. But if MFP was the only tool I had, I would also enter it daily in the check-ins for the 7 day, 30 day, 180 day and 1 year reporting and charting capabilities. Might be inclined to record blood pressure and other biometric data there as well for the same reason. If a person is…
  • I don't suffer from that kind of anxiety but I can empathize with you. I think other posters have been too easy on your older brother. What you describe is criminal. If you haven't already, talk to your parents about it. If they are unable or unwilling to intervene, perhaps talk to your clergyman or a counselor at school…
  • Or if you are looking for a way to record your daily blood glucose test readings you can add "Blood Glucose," or anything else, to the measurements in your check-in. I don't track mine like this because there are better ways in my opinion but this is how I'd do it if MFP was the only tool in the box.
  • Standing up 16 hrs. per week seems remarkable only in how little that is. I have had problems with feet and ankles that the doc didn't seem to care much about either. In my case I suspect her lack of interest is because all fat old men have problems with feet and ankles. High blood glucose and/or high uric acid can also…
  • Not sure what the rda for potassium is, or even if there is one. But here is the last five days for me. The days with lots of it, a lot of it came from sun-dried tomatoes. Buy them in bulk.
  • So did I. I thought Mrs. Natty's Avatar was a skull. Disturbing 'til enlarged it to find the teeth are a little girl's striped stockings and the eye holes are her curly-haired head and a butterfly.
  • I get out of bed, pee, then weigh myself. Sunday morning weight gets entered in the check-in.
  • I have a Polar heart monitor but either the chest strap thingy or the watch is on the blink. Wasn't going to bother replacing it. It often got up into the 150 range while walking a couple years ago.
  • I started at 274, down about 40 with maybe 60 to go. One word of caution, I was off to a good start a couple years ago with primary exercise being long walks. Got run over by a car on the sidewalk and that halted progress and I gained back all I'd lost plus some more. Keep up the good work and be careful on that bicycle.
  • I enjoy MFP forums as much for the unintended irony as anything else. Folks discussing hipster protein and other expensive supplements ad nauseam while congratulating themselves on being so much wiser than somebody who spends a few cents on a One-A-Day type multi-vitamin. :)
  • I take one multivitamin/mineral, Kroger - Complete Men 50+ Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement, with my morning blood pressure and statin pills. Not a fan of supplements but I figure this one probably isn't doing any harm at least. Recently started looking more closely at micronutrients through another food diary. Without…
  • Even if your pill was listed, as wonderful as MFP is, the database is unreliable for micronutrients. Just my opinion but that's the reason I use another platform for the food diary and only enter total daily calories into MFP.
  • I bought this EatSmart scale from Amazon 2½ years ago and am very happy with it. At $33 it costs a little more but is worth the difference to me because:* The large stainless steel platform is easy to keep clean and stuff doesn't fall off too easy. The one I had before had a much smaller round platform and getting bigger…
  • Aah, I came to this thread via a google search for "What does kitten mean" which was inspired by seeing it used so pervasively in these forums. Thanks for the explanation.
  • I started weight training this week and gained 3 over pounds. Why? Well going to the gym every day seriously altered my schedule so I missed lunch a couple days in a row. Then I got so hungry I couldn't think straight and ordered who knows how many calories worth of Chinese takeout. Took more than two days to eat it but…
  • Like many said, I like them roasted.* Scrub * Wrap in foil with a little olive oil if you want to * Bake at 375º for 45 to 90 minutes depending on size Let them cool and store, still in foil, in the refrigerator. When you're ready for them the skin peels off easily with your fingers mostly. Good in salads or just sliced…
