And...it was the cardiologist that suggested Paleo. To support her findings after testing. Again, each individual's situation is unique. Blanket statements about what works across the board are not right and neither are statements telling people that what they are doing is not legitimate. You don't know the entire story.…

Then he should have been working with a doctor, if not multiple, as well. I don't believe that Paleo gave him the issues. Sorry - not buying it.

This isn't funny SLLRunner. Eating right and getting your body in a good place is a very serious topic for people.
-
there isn't anything funny about food allergies, extra_medium.
-
did you get a food allergy test? I would recommend it. It helps so much and you don't have to worry about elimination testing.

I vote for primal paleo. It has changed our lives and we've never felt better. However, even on the plan, you have to find what works for you. I realized I needed a piece of fruit in the afternoon while my BF did not. So still listen to your body but huge fan of primal paleo. I've had to buy all new clothes - twice!

get a complete work up with a doctor. Unless you do, you are just guessing at what your body needs.
-
Have you thought about getting a complete work up done? To find out your numbers for Vitamin D, hormones, etc. So many things could be out of whack with your condition and then changing your diet. My naturopathic doctor was a god-send for me - she got me stable and set with my numbers. As we get older and change our…

Try Paleo. Watching all those numbers will make you crazy. I did it for years. Went Paleo and the weight flew off me.

Paleo. Primal blueprint and Mark's daily apple.

My piece of advice is to listen to your body. Don't look at other people - everyone is built differently. Let your body tell you what it needs and how to move. It's really a wonderful practice.

Have you thought about working with a naturopathic doctor? I found one in my area and with her help, I feel amazing. Being 42, I wanted to get on track with hormones, supplements, vitamins, etc. She has been critical in getting my body in order.

Amen @girlonfire10!

I don't know the physiology behind it and I don't care. All I know is that my thighs are leaner and appear smoother after I've kicked it up with my yoga. Why does everything need to be an argument? She was asking for ideas that have worked for others; not a thesis paper. Relax everyone.

Any type of yoga or pilates. Stretching makes the muscles appear longer. If I kick up my yoga to three times a week for a few weeks, I definitely notice a difference in my thighs.
-
I didn't follow the Insanity food plan for the first two weeks. The workouts were a bit of a shock to my body (and I've worked out a LONG time!) so I eased into it. You may need to try the workouts and then weave the food plan in later. I think too many people go all in and then they fail. One step at a time....

Yoga and Pilates both will help. I also started them after hurting my back. I don't do them on the same day but try to alternate to get the benefits from both.

I have it set to lose 1 lb a week. I'd never try to lose 2 lbs a week - that is way too crazy for me! haha It just seems low, after seeing others. So then I did the TDEE site I found here and the numbers are different. It's enough to drive a person crazy. All I know is that since I've been using MFP, I've already lost 10…

Now I'm totally confused. Everyone's numbers seem much higher than mine. Maybe I did the goals incorrectly? I'm 5'8", 150 lbs (trying to lose 10lbs), and MFP gave me this: Net Calories Consumed / Day 1,250 cal/day Carbs / Day 156.0 g Fat / Day 42.0 g Protein / Day 63.0 g

It does take time. Didn't see changes until the 2nd month so be patient, keep tracking everything and hang in there. It is very frustrating to work so hard and not see anything! But you will. Otherwise, the program wouldn't be that popular, no? :)
-
yes, I use a foam roller while watching TV. It has a permanent home in my family room!
-
Oh no, sorry to hear that! That is my worst fear. If I don't take care of things now, and really everyday, surgery is the only option. So bummed to hear that!
-
Thanks again! More good advice. I did a few of the stretches this morning in bed. happy friday all!

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I knew this group would come through with helpful advice - appreciate it!

I've always done the calipers, with an experienced person. It's pretty accurate. But if you measure a bunch of things, you'll get a pretty good idea of where you stand. I wouldn't worry about a specific number, that's just too much to worry about! :)
-
Go in with your own goals. Over-communicate with them. If something doesn't feel right or you don't like it, tell them. The best thing you can do is be honest. Just recently, I was feeling unmotivated. I told my trainer that I wanted/needed her to remeasure me - everywhere. She said sure and it turns out that I lost inches…

I think the answer is "whatever makes you get up and keep doing it!" Everyone has their own motivation - you have to listen to your body and keep at it.

Welcome! I would first browse through some of the topics listed here and under the fitness topic. You'll find lots of answers to many questions you may have already. And then feel free to reach out to the community for additional help/support. Be sure to set you goals in MFP (my fitness pal) so that you can begin to get an…

Keep at it. It's not unusual to have extra water weight when you begin something like that. Your muscles are trying to recover from an intense workout so they keep the water. Stick it out until week 4. Take your measurements each week and you'll see progress. hang in there!
