I guess it really depends on how active you are. A small person does need fewer calories than a larger person in general, but individuals can vary a lot. I'm 5'1", but on a busy day while I'm walking around, I can have a total burn of 2300 for the day without deliberately "exercising," at least according to the numbers I…

Sorry you're feeling discouraged, but keep at it! I know it can be frustrating when the scale "sticks" for a couple weeks straight, but that could be because of water retention or other factors. 53 days = 7.5 weeks or so. At 2 lbs a week, you'd have lost 15 pounds in that time... so, losing 13 isn't very far behind! :-)…

Hi and thanks for inviting me. I'm afraid I don't have awesome stories and photos to share, though. Actually, I did some canoeing and backpacking back when I was a teenager and loved it. As I'm getting more fit, I'm also starting to re-explore the pastimes that I used to love. Right now, I live in upstate New York (not NYC…

Thank you. Bumping this back to the first page.

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what you have on hand. Sorry we can't be more help. :ohwell:

Dried fruit is good... if you don't mind the massive amount of sugar, that is. :-)

I don't have any scientific information for you, but I do know what's true for me. I used to be really firm with myself about not eating any artificial sweeteners, but over time I started to let them creep into my diet. Before I knew it, I was getting sucralose in my drinks, puddings, gum, etc. The result? I started having…

Yeah, I'm 5'1", so I totally feel your frustration. What gets me is how much more the taller people get to eat! I have a friend (a guy) who's very tall, large-framed, and still has a lot more weight to lose. He gets to eat twice as much as I do and burns calories twice as fast when he exercises! Grrrrrr...

Thanks! I was actually trying to remember this acronym the other day and I couldn't seem to recall what the "A" was. To me, "Attainable" and "Realistic" almost seem redundant, so it didn't seem right.

Don't worry, it's something a lot of people do. Just make sure that you don't burn yourself out. If you exhaust yourself just to stay under calories (or to eat a special something), you're really not doing yourself any favors. I know that for me, if I work out too hard without enough rest in between, I feel tired and…

If I had to pick one, I'd say go for distance first. Trying for speed just exhausted me too quickly, and I didn't burn as many calories overall. Part of getting leaner is burning off that fat, so the more calories burned, the better. That said, I agree with the comment about lifting weights as well. You want to keep as…

LOL - Yes! I was going to say the same thing!

Oohh... sounds good!

Actually, I'm the complete opposite. When I exercise, it actually helps me to control my appetite (which otherwise is apparently reset to "ravenous" every 1.5 hours).

I like a little grated parmesan and cracked pepper.

Well, most of the time, I do. But I'll be honest, it's still a work in progress. Sometimes I leave out a stick or two of sugarfree gum or a glass of crystal light. Or a few raspberries pinched from the fridge on my way by. Or the contents of the serving spoon I licked off as I put it in the sink. A nibble here, a taste…

I blame Marie Callender and her delicious, delicious pies.

Oh, oops. That was me. My bad. :embarassed:

I eated yur question.

Don't fret too much. I was "on vacation" for four days and seemed to gain 10 entire pounds! It was mostly water weight, though, and went away within a week. Try to relax, get back on track, and don't weigh yourself again for a while.
-
Exactly what I was saying.
-
I totally get what you're saying, and you're absolutely right, but... I think the trouble is that when most people say "muscle is heavier than fat" they actually MEAN "a given volume of muscle is heavier than the same volume of fat." At least, I always thought so. I mean, most people would agree with this statement (using…

Oh, God... I can't breathe!

 <That.

Since you've never eaten "healthy" as far as you can remember, try not to overwhelm yourself to start with. My advice is: 1) Start small. Try swapping familiar foods with things that are a little bit better for you (like switching to whole wheat pasta instead of the white enriched stuff). Changing everything at once might…

Why would attractive people want to wear such an ugly, boring t-shirt?

What is "alkaline water?"

Thanks! I might try that!

Really? Allergy pills? Do you know what kind? Thank you! :-D

Sounds reasonable, but I wonder how to make sure that happens? Is it just a trial-and-error thing?
