If you were given a 60% chance that if you try to cross the interstate you be ok - would you take it? There is no causation that crossing the road will wipe you out, but there is a correlation. It is a risk/benefit analysis. There is evidence to show that diet sodas are harmful to your health. It is not true that there is…

Time magazine reported from From the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (http://time.com/3746047/diet-soda-bad-belly-fat/) http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jgs.13376/abstract;jsessionid=B39F08B5F65DCD543BA01AF6559455D7.f04t04 "Results Adjusted for initial WC, demographic characteristics, physical…

Very interesting discussion. Of course proving causality is extremely difficult because you have to rule out almost everything else that could be a cause. However, I am not willing to risk metabolic syndrome or diabetes just so I can drink a can of chemicals. The water in third world countries also has zero calories, but I…

You all are kidding - right? It is not the lack of calories that make diet soda bad for you, it is the chemicals which increase the risk of metabolic syndrome. Google "scientific research on diet soda" and several journal articles pop up. Here is a quote from the American Diabetes Association "At least daily consumption of…

Excellent! It took me 4 months to lose my first 12. Us shorter folk have to use a digital scale so we can see progress at the .2 pounds. Great job!
-
Fantastic! Congratulations.

The way I was able to lose the first 12 pounds was giving up gluten, eliminating as much sugar as possible, learning yoga, and working out 1-2 hours every day at high intensity (spin, snowshoe, walk, swim, FitnessBlender.com). Yoga has been fantastic for building strength and toning.

Exactly! And that is why I don't use MFP to log what I eat. Every time I fall under 1200 MFP gives me a lecture. Hrmmmph

Forgot to put bells on them - oops those are not the same calves

I am a mesomorph. I have a very good strength to weight ratio.

Those were the days  But that ship has sailed. My pants are falling off me. Soon I will have to start shopping in the girls department. I can get some cool low-rise jeans with pink hearts embroidered on them. That will look great on a little partially grey-haired woman! The biggest difference I have noticed is 1) my…

Decided to keep trying to reach my goal - that is my small victory!

Great job! I am also 5' 1". Lost 12 so far with 5 or 10 to go.
-
Very very interesting. I liked the point that the less you weigh, the less wiggle room you have. That makes a lot of sense and kind of explains why I lost the first 12 pounds easily, then stalled. I also do snack, I try to measure my snacks, but that is probably what is getting me in the long run. That and my size also…

I weigh in every morning. I log my food on a different system that is easier to use. I track my exercise closely with MFP. In the last week, I have exercised a ton, high intensity, sweating bullets, heavy weights, muscles sore, and I have actually gained weight. I haven't eaten more than 1400 on any day, and usually come…

I too am in a plateau. I am also going for 0.5 lb/week and have only 4ish stubborn pounds to go. I am thinking maybe if I add a different exercise it will help. Any ideas? Currently I walk, snowshoe, ride my bike on the trainer in alternating intervals, and do yoga. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Congrats! Every little bit helps. I have lost 12 of my ~18 goal pounds and am plateaued. But I have a flat stomach, a tiny 2-pack, muscles in my legs that I haven't seen for a white and my arms are more toned. Keep going! 10 pounds makes a difference.

Hi Sarabear, In order to reduce inflammation (this year I had trigger thumb, possible glaucoma, and an incredibly bad case of sciatica). I gave up Gluten, eggs and significantly reduced sugar in September. I can't give up legumes as I am a vegetarian. It took about 6 weeks to start feeling better, and now at 4 months, I am…

Hi, I am recovering from a bulging disc at L5/S1 and learned I have degenerative lumbar spine. It was 4 solid months of excruciating pain shooting down my leg 24/7, but in the last 2 weeks it has started to get significantly better. I have not sat in a chair, except for driving to work, since August. I woke up every 20-30…

Fantastico! What a great success story. Happy Holidays and New Year. :)

First, this needs to be evaluated by a physician. Second there is a response from the vagus nerve, which can be triggered by bearing down to have a BM, that will cause you to pass out. It is called vasovagal syncope. Second, if you suddenly loose a lot of fluid from a BM or have a large fluid shift after moving your…

Yes, you are correct about the BMI calculation. But I said my body fat percentage was 19%. This is different than BMI. My BMI is 19.2. Rachel's fat percentage looks to be considerably lower than 19%.

Ditto for me

Adult women come in all shapes and sizes. I hover around 105 and am 5'2" and am perfectly healthy. 19% body fat and ranked in the superior fitness range for my age by an extensive fitness study that I participated in at the local university.

You can use coke to clean your battery. Why would you drink this?

It is good you recognize that you enjoy eating. You can still eat, just different foods. For example, Soup laden with vegetables is very filling. You can even add in whole grains like barley or quinoa. I think the advice given here was very good. Weigh and me assure your food with brutal honesty Identify new, healthy food…

My hubby, who just joined MFP, is getting me a HRM for my birdhday which is in a short 28 days. Now all I have to decide is what color to get! Happy day-after turkey day.
