I'm not setting a goal this month apart from doing the damn strength training. Our club is holding an 8 hour Backyard ultra on the 17th so I should get a lot of miles that day but not many before or after it 🤣

@quilteryoyo you'll be fine, you've done it before, you can do it again. Your consistency is amazing and the best possible base! And we'll all be cheering you on remotely 🙂

Busy busy busy but stopping in quickly to say happy turkey day! @SummerSkier my watch flagging increased RHR is usually the first sign I'm coming down with a cold or something...

@polskagirl01 thank you. My insanity just keeps getting worse and worse! I'm pretty sure Ashwaghandha was one of the things in a specific supplement my doc gave me last year to help with peri-menopause related night sweats and insomnia... and it did help. Maybe it wakes males up and sends females to sleep? Hope it helps…

Thanks everyone! @shanaber yes, the individual stages were around 40km each, then another 10km together at the end, so 50km altogether with a break in the middle. It's crazy reading about the weather in different places, and even from one day to the next, at this time of year!
-
@SummerSkier oh wow, how strange! Guess you felt my pain haha! Thank you, it really was an amazing experience and I truly appreciate the support from this wonderful bunch of random internet crazies :-)

@tarun_yadavA thanks. Lord of the Rings at 3:45am, on a violin, alone in the woods... effing EPIC!

Hi everyone, checking in at last. The sheer exhaustion is finally easing off now and my legs, although very tight and in need of some TLC from the evil physio tomorrow, are more or less functional. The days since the race have been an emotional, as well as physical, rollercoaster to say the least. I don't even know where…

As a vegetarian I have no idea what beef tastes like, but I know Burger King here claims their veggie whopper tastes just like what they call a real whopper. Somehow, I doubt it. They're edible, but generally, the stuff they call meat substitutes that they say taste like the real thing taste like cardboard.

@Scott6255 awesome race. You and the 'old guys' all rock! @AlphaHowls wow, awesome race too, congrats! I would guess the jelly feeling was just because you were pushing harder than you're used to, but listen to your body for a few days and make sure. Hate it when organisers are so disorganised.

@quilteryoyo they just changed the stages slightly due to the date coinciding with some festival in the village we were due to do the changeover so my stage is now slightly shorter than initially planned. According to the maps, it will be 39km with 2300m of elevation gain, then the final stage we do together is another…

Hi everyone, wow, 9 days away and more than 100 posts to read up on, way too many to comment on. Except to say @martaindale I laughed at your judgy Garmin too. I continue to confuse the heck out of Garmeen the drama queen, my turtle pace on technical trails generally keeps her from saying I'm overtraining but other than…
-
@tarun_yadavA lol yeah but it's flat compared to the races I have before that! I'll be combining it with family visits is Sussex and Kent, though whether that'll be before or after the race will mostly depend on flight prices. Would be cool to arrange something, though a tune-up run even at your easy pace would probably…

@tarun_yadavA I'm running the South Downs Ultra 50k at the end of May. Hint, hint!
-
Busy doing crazy stuff as usual, including almost 6 hours of crawling up mountains, fighting panic on steep downhill stretches with loose dirt and stones, learning that my new chest lamp is cool on roads or wide, non-technical trails but sucks on steep hills or narrow tracks because turning my head doesn't allow me to see…
-
@martaindale lol yeah, not falling off mountains is generally my main goal in these crazy races I end up doing. I'm trying to decide whether the fact that I will know about the drops right next to the trails even if I can't see them will be good or bad. Maybe innocence would have been bliss in this case... Your watch will…

Don't be in a hurry to run, your body needs plenty of time to recover. My coach doesn't let us run AT ALL for 10 days after a big race!
-
Oh boy, I went away for the weekend and am way behind again. @Laurz9191 well done! Welcome new people :-) My weekend was to check out the first half of my big race in November. It was. Interesting. We ended up missing a few turns and adding 2km on. The infamous 'Captain' ascent is nasty. I knew there was almost 3km at an…

Yes, exactly. I always make sure I have enough fuel and as much water as I can possibly carry because it isn't uncommon for aid stations to be empty or even to have been taken down before the last runners reach them. The first guy to finish the 25km yesterday did it in 2 and a half hours. The last runner came in at 5 hours…

Wow, trying to catch up after being away since Thursday. Speed reading, liking and hugging. @polskagirl01 I hope you haven't suffered too much after accompanying the club girl. Funny, I spent this weekend volunteering at the race that was my first trail race. Having spent my entire race budget already I couldn't sign up to…

Happy birthday @martaindale
-
@Laurz9191 you've got this! And I'm wildly jealous of the long shirt, still way too hot here!
-
@polskagirl01 well let's just say I'm doing the batsh!t crazy stuff for the two of us right now. Slowly, very slowly, but I'm doing it lol. The functional strength training I'm doing atm kind of follws that sort of interval philosophy... it's 3 or 4 rounds of 7 or 8 exercises, usually 30-40 seconds of each. I thought it…

Thanks @AlphaHowls @tarun_yadavA @Scott6255 you guys are scary. As usual my goal is to follow the plan, stay injury free and do the damn strength training. I'm one month into a 3 month training cycle and already tired plus I'm gaining weight (damn runger) but having a blast 🙂
-
I'd been wondering why I feel so tired. Garmin tells me I ran 196km and walked another 88km in August, maybe that's why. Not even going to try and work out the vert as that is going to get even worse before it gets better lol.
-
Me too, jealous!

I'm very late to this discussion but for posterity and future readers, can I just point out that @tarun_yadavA ended up injured not all that long after the marathon antics and there is a possibility there's a link there? Not trying to be bitchy, just pointing out a possible link before I read further on the thread. 122…

Yes, please. It's 10pm and it's 31.3C inside my living room right now.

@quilteryoyo officially it's an online training 'club' but they're awesome despite being cheaper than one on one personal training. They do generic training plans for different levels and situations then help you tweak them to suit, design new strength and mobility workouts each month, have tonnes of theory lessons on…

Specific training for my relay ultra started today. Oh boy, this is gonna be... interesting. I had to get used to training by time instead of mileage. Now evil coach has sent me a training plan that goes by elevation :-o I was pretty pleased with my total weekly elevation this month, which was higher than ever. Now he's…
