I make mine with organic fruit to make a smoothie. But no, you don't need to have it.

A food scale will become your best friend. As far as not knowing BMR and TDEE that is why I directed you to the group EAt More To Weigh Less. And Google is your friend. ;)
-
Do you know your BMR and TDEE?? If not it's time to learn. In order to be healthier you need to eat closer to TDEE. Check out the group "Eat More To Weight Less".

I've just past the two year mark of consistent logging here. Before and after photo is my profile pic. Please feel free to read my profile.

For the record I eat between 1800 - 2000 calories a day. I am 45 and 5'2"!

I agree except for the part of staying under calorie goal. MFP has already created a deficit, to stay under is depriving yourself of nutrition. Figure out TDEE and stay a bit under it.

Whatever you do, it's got to be a lifestyle change. Diets do not work because for the most part they are temporary. Don't focus on the scale, it doesn't tell the whole truth.

I'm not so much as concerned with the number on the scale as with how I look. 1.) I want to have a lean, muscular look. 2.) I want to increase my running distance, currently using the Bridge to 10K app. 3.) Compete in a 10K 4.) Train for and run a Half Marathon 5.) Continue to learn about foods and their health benefits…

I'm 45 and you can do it. Make it a lifestyle change. Don't "diet". Make permanent changes and exercise! Check out websites like Skinnytaste, Cooking Light, Eating Well and Skinny Kitchen for recipes you can make for you and your family.

So inspiration!!!! I started weight training a week ago today. Going to do it 3-4 times a week and continue on with my running. I've gone back to using the Bridge to 10K app to start increasing my distance.
-
You look entirely different!!! Congrats to you!!!

This is about changing your lifestyle. It isn't going to happen overnight. Eat cleaner, give up the fast food (trust me you will be glad you did), exercise but make it something you enjoy doing! Give yourself a break, you are not a number on a scale. Start with making small changes and go from there. Honey, if I can do…

The picture has to be resized. I am unable to do that being that I did not upload to Photobucket.

Your diary is closed so it's hard to give advice. It could very well be because you aren't eating enough! My diary is open and on my profile I mention what works for me. Check out the group "Eat More to Weigh Less" for more info. Don't stay under your calorie goal, try to get as close to it as you can. When you exercise…

I don't miss anything. I don't believe in depriving myself. But I will say of the things I gave up eating I am now repelled and disgusted by them.

Rice Krispies are processed too.(anything out of box is processed) And I do hope you mean raised your calorie abother 500 to 700 calories, not that you are eating 700 a day. That's just plain stupid. You need to fuel your body. Eat veggies and fruit and get some protein! My diary us open if you need ideas.

Google is my best friend!!

A food scale will be your best investment!!! Measuring cups help too!
-
The only time I use them as a meal replacement was when fasting on Fridays during lent. Otherwise I enjoy having one after a run.
-
Nope.....45!

Jason....seriously, you can NOT be two years older than me!!! I hope your diary is open. I need to know what you eat!
