I'm not overly strict about things like my macros. I've got a general guideline that I aim for but if I'm high in carbs one day, or low in protein, etc. I don't stress out over it too much. I log after I eat generally because sometimes I'm hungrier than other times so I don't usually preset it. The exception to that is if…

"Ooof - a little bit of belly bloat this morning. I guess I did eat fairly late last night."

Just out of curiosity, why do you suggest fruits over starches for a carb increase when lifting?
-
Echoing what's been said but, if weight loss is your goal, look at lowering your carbs for a while (limit starches, fruits, and nuts). By doing that, you should see a difference.

I think that if you weren't working out in the mornings, there would be no problem with it. But with working out, you need to get some protein.

Feel free to add me. :) I've been eating Primal for about 3.5 years now.

Everyone's different, but ya, eating a little higher carb on a bulk is recommended for most. I don't know what it's like to bulk (always looking to lose, haha) but I'm hoping to get to that stage. I think that if you work on upping your calories, you'll definitely get there. Are you doing any cardio? I'm thinking that if…

Unless you can do low-carb long-term, I'd say don't bother. You need to find something you can do for the longer-term. Eat for health and sustainability. That said, for me, low-carb is the way to go. I still fall within my calories, but eating higher fat/lower carb keeps me satiated and lets me lose effortlessly. When I…

Ya, the study came out a year or two ago. When I have time, I'll see if I can dig it up. I think it was from Harvard. They were assessing different things and not just caloric expenditure. The most frustrating thing about the study is that they found that the low-carb group had slightly higher stress hormones (really,…

IMO, you should be having some protein at a minimum after a workout. As such, I'd advise against substituting your breakfast for butter if you're working out. Depending on how serious you are with working out (do you have big performance goals or is it mostly to stay in shape?), you would probably want to look at tweaking…

Meh - what you eat is your business. People can eat all the junk they want and if they can convince themselves it's healthy because moderation, good for them. I've tried so many different ways and I know what works for me and I'll keep doing it.

You just know these threads are going to turn into trainwrecks. I don't think there has ever been a productive topic start this way. Why are you an authority on this topic and why do you feel you're in a position to teach people about this? Why the use of capitals and exclamation marks in the title? Anyhow, I actually…

Fix: That's supposed to say "maintain lean body mass".

I always try to use the ones put in by MFP (no aterisk * as a prefix). I just really wish those came up first - I often have to scroll down to find them. That information seems to come from nutritiondata.com so it's pretty reliable. Then, I try to stick with that one moving forward. You still have to watch though because…

I know you're asking more about non-food uses, but what about guacamole? I used to not be a fan of avocados, mostly for texture, but I've loved guacamole for a while. Once I started eating more guacamole I was able to start eating avocados more and I didn't mind the texture so much. Anyhow, we use guacamole as a spread or…

My wife and I always have different challenges. Right now we are doing one where we get points for eating primally, avoiding booze, and tracking food. We just had a baby though so she can't really exercise for another few weeks, but we'll often put points for exercising, or going outside.

*Delete - I noticed I already commented haha*

I'm just repeating what's already been said, but I think it comes down to two things: 1 - Macros definitely impact our hunger so in terms of being able to stay in a caloric deficit in the long run, I think it's important to find a macro ratio that allows you to stay satiated. 2 - In terms of body composition, the amount of…

First off, congrats on the weight loss and on taking steps to getting back in shape. Now for your question, Psulemon hit the nail on the head. Ya, you should be upping those cals. That's too low for a man (my wife is 5'2 and eats 1500 to lose). If you lose too quickly, your body will take from your muscle store and you'll…

I don't go preaching about it, but if I'm talking health and weightloss with someone, I'll often mention it.

This was a few years back for me (but it was at my heaviest and was when I realized I needed to watch what I ate): At work, a colleague had a buddy coming by and he asked me if I'd seen him. He said "He's got a shaved head and is about your size". I said no, I hadn't seen anyone like that come by. Sure enough, I had seen…

I definitely see both sides here. I do not agree with PF removing the squat rack. I think it does their members and future members a disservice by removing an essential piece of equipment from their gym. I also feel that they are, in a sense, spreading misinformation about fitness and about fit people to the detriment of…

Sorry - seems this is derailing the thread, but that's a ridiculous comment and I keep hearing it so I needed to vent. It's like saying gold weighs more than styrofoam. A lb of gold weighs the same as a lb of styrofoam, but gold is still g.d. heavier than styrofoam. With your logic, everything in this world weighs the same…

First I hear of it - is this any way related to Whole30 (Whole9Life.com)? If not, I don't like them using that name. It's confusing. I think it's a pretty cool concept. Kind of wish I'd have thought of it, haha :P. I find that the $50 to do it is a little steep though, especially considering you're basically just paying…

Have you thought of exercising less, even for just a little while? Stress hormones can have a negative impact on weight loss and that could be hampering it. Are you getting enough sleep?

Coconut milk is a decent replacement. You'll also learn to like black if you drink it for a few weeks. Personally, I follow a more Primal approach. I have don't eliminate full-fat dairy, though I do try to limit it somewhat (ex: I generally use almond milk rather than cow's milk). As for your weight loss question, it's a…

I weigh every morning. To do this successfully though, you really can't let weight fluctuations get to you. I just find that it's much easier to identify trends when you're doing it every day. If you do it once a week, for example, and Week 1 your on the lower end of body weight fluctuations, and weeks 2 and 3 you're on…

To me, that's too much. I go 3-4 times and that's sufficient for my goals. I wouldn't be able to sustain 6 times a week for more than a month. Your muscles also need time to rest and build. As FrnkLft said, it kinda sounds like you're just messing around in the gym. If you want real results, I'd recommend setting a real…

That report is obviously crap - how anyone could justify that Atkins, for example, is better than Paleo makes no sense. They have a similar weight-loss strategy (low-carb, though Paleo isn't necessarily LC), but Paleo puts emphasis on real, nutrient-dense foods when Atkins puts emphasis on their frankenbars. They just see…

I use it a lot for cooking - not for some miraculous weight loss benefits but it it is healthy, has a high smoke point, and has a nice taste.
