  • Oops! Yes, exactly! Thanks :)
  • I would say to be aware of how much you're eating. A lot of it depends on your goals. I think you were saying in another thread that you were looking to lose ~20lbs? Nuts are pretty calorie-dense and if you find you're not losing as much as you'd like, maybe looking at lowering your almond butter intake would be a good…
  • Urgh - wish I hadn't read this. It's really going to put a downer on my weekend binge :P Honestly, I do not understand why I find it soo difficult to stop drinking. I guess it's the social and cultural aspects of it. There's just something so unsatisfying about going out with the guys and drinking water, or going out for a…
  • Ya, for drinking you would definitely want the carton kind. The canned milk is great as well. We often use it in stir frys or in shakes. Having it in berries is great as well. We often froth it in a blender and keep it in the fridge - it usually stays pretty foamy and even just eating it with a spoon is delicious.
  • Urgh, is the bicep tear fairly common? I use mixed grip and that's not something that's ever crossed my mind. My max is 405lbs right now so I assume I'm not in that range yet, but it's still kinda scary.
  • Squats and DLs take so much out of you that I understand why people don't like doing them. Still as others have said, it's not a coincidence that they are so tough; you're using you entire body in those lifts and that's why there's no substitute. I dread squat days as much as anyone I'm sure, but the feeling you get after…
  • My sports for me. If I have to be more specific, I'd probably say volleyball. I prefer hockey to volleyball but I play hockey once a week vs volleyball 2-3 times a week.
  • One thing I find that helps a lot with satiety is ensuring I get enough water. Also, for me, if I eat an early breakfast I feel that I'm starving by like 1030. Intermittent fasting has really helped me a lot with not eating too much. Other than a coffee and some BCAAs if I workout, I generally don't eat anything until…
  • Are you buying the almond/soy milk equivalent of coconut milk? Or the cans? Both are good but they're very different. The canned one is great for cooking and is really thick. You probably wouldn't want to drink it just like that (though you could, but it would be tough to have a full glass). It's crazy how little we…
  • I usually have two big meals and maybe a little snack in between. I've been doing intermittent fasting and I like it. I feel I'm usually not hungry first thing in the morning and it allows me to have two nice big meals and stay within my calories.
  • Ya, the water weight means nothing. I'm just saying that those that do lose all that weight in the first week just basically lose water weight, so they're not really any further along than you are. Fat loss takes time and in my experience, it works best with a low-carb, high-fat diet. Give it a real shot for three weeks…
  • I don't usually have leftovers since we eat those at lunch. I usually do one of these: - Get a full roasted chicken and a boxed salad - Bacon and eggs. - Get a shawarma (lebanese pita wrap) and empty the contents on a plate. I really should look at prepping a little more though since it seems that we are often scrambling…
  • Thanks for the article - it was a great read!! I agree to some degree, but to completely dismiss calorie intake and expenditure I don't think is necessarily the right way to look at it either. I think that eating Primal/Paleo will regulate your hormones and will make it such that you are eating fewer calories naturally and…
  • The 5-10lbs people talk about is usually mainly water weight that is lost by dropping carbs. A lot of the earlier loss is dependent on how you ate before Paleo. If you are Celiac and didn't eat bread, for example, your carb intake was probably much lower than most who did and because of that you likely won't see the big…
  • I try to stick to vodka sodas or whiskey waters if I'm looking to keep my cals lower. More often than not I just end up drinking a lot of beer though. As others have said, don't let it stress you out too much. Have fun and don't let it ruin that fun. It's sounds like the two of you don't get to do this too often to begin…
  • This makes sense too. I've never quite reached my ideal weight because it really gets hard for those last few pounds. Your best bet is likely to try different approaches, track how each is affecting you, and then find something that works for you.
  • Here's a relevant article that a friend posted in my newsfeed this morning. http://robbwolf.com/2013/10/24/16028/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+RobbWolfThePaleoSolution+%28Robb+Wolf+|+The+Paleo+Solution+book+and+podcast+|+Paleolithic+nutrition%2C+intermittent+fasting%2C+and+fitness%29 I think…
  • Sounds like you're doing everything right. What else are you doing beyond Crossfit? Maybe you're doing too much? As craudi said, maybe you're not eating enough? What about carbs? Have you tried dropping them for a bit? Have you tried cycling them? What about IFing?
  • How long's it's taken you to gain it? ;) As others have said in the thread, this isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. If you're burning yourself out and doing unsustainable amounts of exercise and eating, there is a much higher chance you'll give up before you get to your goal. And even if you do get there, you will very…
  • I'll consider it, haha. I did it in May. I weighed at the beginning, halfway, and at the end. I also did not log my food. I lost a good amount of weight (~8 lbs I think). Not logging or weighing is freeing in a way. Personally, I don't want to be weighing myself and tracking everything I eat for the rest of my life. To me,…
  • Yup - I usually use coconut or almond flour. Very tasty! :) It's been a while though - maybe I need to get on that! haha
  • Out of curiosity, what is it that helped you lose the weight? Was it the medication that he/she was able to prescribe to you to treat your PCOS, or was it a diet change (or combination of both)?
  • I'm a couple days late to the thread, but I also did my first spin class last Friday (did my second one this morning). I'm definitely enjoying it. I've always been kind of anti-cardio and just stuck to lifting. Hoping throwing some spinning into the mix will help me lean out a little.
  • I'm the opposite. I love my winter/indoor sports and winters are so much more predictable that I can hold onto a gym routine. We're also at home a lot more so it's much easier to eat well. For me, summers are full of cottages, patios, vacations, etc so all I do is eat crap and drink beer. I gained 20lbs this summer.
  • As others have said, if you really enjoy it, do it. Personally, I've always hated jogging and used to try to force myself to do it. Now, after reading more about chronic cardio, I realize it isn't as effective as previously thought so I don't feel bad about not running. I do remain very active though and play hockey and…
  • It's fairly easy to do if you cut or severely out fruits, root vegetables, and nuts. With that said, I don't find it's worth the extra restriction personally so I keep mine at around 15-20%.
  • I aim for 50f/35p/15c. I do weights 3 times a week, play hockey twice a week, and volleyball twice a week. You should have no problems with performance by dropping your protein a little. 50% seems a little excessive to me (and some studies show too much protein could cause health problems), but do what works for you. Don't…
  • Just did it. I suggest finding a group online that starts with you for support throughout. If you can get a friend to do it, even better.
  • Feel free to add me as well. Open diary. I've been eating Primal (I eat dairy) for over 3 years. With that said, I've gone for periods of time eating fairly poorly in there and this summer has been pretty terrible. I've resolved to get back to being very strict about it though.
