  • I quit 4 years ago. I have a mother who is on oxygen and had several health issues from smoking, it scared me straight. The first 3 months were all about changing habits, chewing gum in the car, talking on the phone after dinner, making a nice cup of tea during a time I would smoke. For me it was like breaking up with a…
  • Good nutrition, water, cardio, and time. It can be done, good luck!
  • I quit over 3 years ago and I still think about it often. I quit using the nicotine gum. I tried other methods in past but this really worked for me. I found that every time I had intense cravings or was in a trigger place (for me it was always in the car) it really helped. I tried to make new habits to replace the times I…
  • Your story sounds like mine. I got married at 29 and the "when are you going to have a baby?" questions never let up. I wasn't sure I even wanted children. I was scared to let go of my freedom, body, and the life I had. 5 years later when I was ready my husband I decided to try for a family. It happened quickly and we…
  • Awesome! Very inspiring, I am pregnant with my first and hoping to stay active so i can bounce back like you. Thanks for posting!
  • I quit almost two years ago using the nicotine gum. It really helped when I got edgy or felt the urge. I had a horrible experience with Chantix and do not recommend it on any level. The gum was an easy way to get the "fix" and change the routines that drive the habit. Best of luck to you, the hardest thing I ever did but…
  • Neutrogena body wash! I swear by it, helps my back especially this time of year.
  • I quite a year and a half ago using the nicotine gum. No drinking alcohol for at least a month or two will help, and keeping busy in general. Good luck it will be worth it!
  • I watch DVD's. Soprano's,Sex In the City, anything to keep me entertained.
  • I quit in October of 09 and have found myself with an additional 5 lbs to fight off. I know I am healthier for it but it can be frustrating. I am extremely active (I work-out a minimum of 1.5 to 2 hrs daily) so I know that helps but my problem tends to be weekend munching. Try and identify triggers that make you want to…
  • I do this a few times a year and it really pays off. Summer is tough with all the cook-outs and parties but you can do it! Think how hot you will look on your vacation :) Good luck it can be done I promise!
  • I would like to join this group. I"m 5' and in maintenance mode and have been for 4 years but seriously struggle with weekends, holidays, parties, ect.... and truthfully summer is very tough for me with all the events and activities. I am great with working out but the indulging gets me everytime. I look forward to getting…
  • Jackie Warner has a couple that are fantastic, short too.
  • I recently saw Food Inc. and must admit it was life changing. I thought I was mindful and realize I have a lot to learn, and through our choices we can make changes and improvements in every aspect of our lives.
  • Synders mustard pretzel pieces OMG they are insane good!
  • Thanks for all the great tips. I think I would have waited but it must be a sign or something given these races are so close and literally 10 miles from home. I would like to finish the half under 2hrs and have no time goal for the full just to finish.
  • I think there is some truth to this as well. I typically start my day with oatmeal paired with a protein like nuts, then stick to lean meats and veggies the remainder of the day, with fruit for a snack. Fruit is a complex carb and does give me the energy boost I need to avoid an afternoon slump.
  • I add spices like pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, it is yummy!
  • My mom has struggled with this for years Drs. always tell her to drink meal replacements or calorie dense shakes as snacks (Ensure, those type products), eat nuts, and watch caffeine intake. They never advise her to eat straight junk or restrict anything or food group.
  • For me I do really well until I have a couple drinks, then I get the urge to snack and eat crap. My body is not used to junk anymore I often joke I have food hangovers from it these days. I guess all in moderation right?
  • I hear ya on this one. I am a Saint Monday-Friday but come Saturday I want something salty and to chase it down with an alcoholic beverage. I have managed to maintain this way but still have a pesky few lbs to go and they won't go anywhere with my cheats.
  • Ketchup and potato chips!
  • That's great. I was looking at your profile. How long did it take you to lose 25lbs? The first 15 came off in about 3 months the last 10 took about 9 months. Once I figured out to add strength training as a core part of my routine it completely changed my shape. It is so hard to be short  I still flucutate 4-5 lbs…
  • I'm 5'0 and weigh 100 lbs and wear a 0, when I was 130lbs I wore an 8/10 I am bottom heavy.
  • This is a great thread! I prefer weights to cardio as well. I have to mix it up or I am dreadfully bored but no matter what I do I still get in a 3-4 mile walk a day with my dogs. Every week I write down my fitness plan and schedule at least 2-3 days for "fun cardio". My fun cardio usually includes biking/or spinning,…
  • South Beach does allow carbs just not during the induction phase. I have followed it for years and found it a great way to lose as well as maintain. You can eat out, go to parties, have alcohol, you name it. It really helped me learn what to eat for energy too. Good luck I love the program and feel it is actually a lot…
  • A friend of mine who is what I would call "naturally thin" has been telling me this for years, good advice but it is hard to give up the scale. I try to only weigh in once a week.
  • My mom got strange when I got married too. I still don't know why and we are celebrating our third anniversary 9-30. Hang in there and don't get too stressed out, plan lots of spa days, long walks, and outings with friends. In the end all the stress and planning will be worth everything I promise!
  • I finished P90x in March, I did purchase P90x Plus but don't care for it. For maintenance I try and do 2-3 of the weight programs weekly, (Legs/Back/ Shoulders/Arms/ Chest Back or mix it up)keep up with the ab ripper, and substitute my own cardio. It has worked well and now that the weather is nice gives me even more…
