  • @55doit, welcome to this support group. You have made a great decision in deciding to take responsibility for your own health. After all who else has a greater interest in being healthy and active than yourself. The good news is that the MFP programme, if correctly applied, reall does work. It is not quick fix. It is…
  • I repeat my previous advice. Foot problems can become very serious for diabetics. Please get this looked at by a competent medic.
  • The short answer is not at the moment. As has been pointed out on previous posts, ( See Kdipiaz's excellent post on the subject) anyone claiming to have reversed or "cured" diabetes should take a glucose intolerance test and then report the results of that test. The good news is that many people can achieve excellent…
  • At last at least one sensible, rational contribution to this debate. People outside the US simply shake their heads in amazement at the topics which exercise our friends in the US. We do this more in sorrow than in anger.
  • Sorry to hear about your toe Sherry. I would echo what others have said about the need to have this dealt with by someone with the experience needed to dealt with it effectively. Please do not ignore this or attempt to self treat. Foot problems should always be a priority.
  • Hi Monica and welcome to this group. Many people have shared your fellings of fear and confusion when faced with a diagnosis of Diabetes. The good news is that for the vast majority of people a good level of control can be achieved, leading to a healthy and active life. You have made a great decision in joining this group.…
  • You don't say if you have been having regular retinopathy tests. These tests are an essential part of managing diabetes.
  • Well done, that's great news. Thanks for sharing your success. Good news stories are always a source of encouragement.
  • That's great news and a just reward for your efforts. Thanks for sharing your results. Success are always a great encouragement to the rest of us.
  • Thanks for sharing this info.
  • My objective is 45 net carbs per main meal max with an allowance of 20 for snacks. My daily allowance is 135 net carbs. I try to aim for an even distribution over the day. I don't always achieve these targets but this approach has helped me to gradually reduce my A1c to approx 5.4 down from 7.5 at diagnosis.
  • Thanks for the clarification Rich, I understand what you're saying.
  • I would seriously query the information you appear to have been given. See my message for detail.
  • Carole, nobody should feel guilty about taking medication to help control blood sugars. If that is what is required at the moment then so be it. You said that you did not have a carb target. If you have not entered your perrsonal stats to the system you should do so but remember that the carb targets given by MFP are a tad…
  • Hi Walkswithart, the answer to your question ref meds is thanfully no. Although I'm prone to falling off the waggon I control blood sugars and chol simply by diet and exercise. We tend to focus on food freshly prepared from natural ingredients and try to meet my targets for Sat Fat. I also tweaked my macro targets so that…
  • Hi Lani and welcome to this group. Your feelings of alarm and confusion will be recognised by many members in this group who will certainly empathise. You've made a great start in making the committment to accept responsibility for your own health. You've done exactly the right thing by taking time to read over some of the…
  • Thanks for sharing this very interesting article. It shows yet again that Diabetes is a very individual condition and there is no general perscriptive approach. Only by trial and error can we develop a plan which suits us as individuals. Information and education are vital tools in helping us to achieve an optimum approach…
  • Just wanted to give an update on my latest A1c test results which I got yesterday. The encouraging news is that the test showed 36.6 mmol/l which is between 5.4 and 5.5. This was down from the previous result of 37.7 mmol/l which is between 5.5 and 5.6. The testsho wed that my blood lipids were all within the optimum range…
  • Hi to the new members Truckinwife et al. If you value your health and are committed to take action then you've made a great decision in joining this group. The M<FP philosophy is based on the development of a change of lifestyle. It is not a quick fix solution. It requires honest logging of food intake, persistence and…
  • Sorry can't help on the meds but can say very well done on your A1c results. You've put in the effort and it shows.
  • Hi Stacey and welcome to this support group. You've made a really good decision in joining a group where you will get plenty of support and encouragement. It's really great to know that you're fully committed to helping your husband gain control over his blood sugars. Family support can make a huge difference. You…
  • That's great news, very well done. Good news stories are always an incentive for all of us, thanks for sharing your good news.
  • Hi Nancy, KDIpiazz as usual has most bases covered. Using the glucose tablets 4-6 will give a measured glucose dose which is important. The only thing I would add to her excellent post would be to also have glucogel handy. This a glucose gel which can be used for a quick response or in situations where it is difficult for…
  • Thanks for highlighting this very important issue. Regular foot checks need to be undertaken by every diabetic without exception.
  • That's great news, well done. It's always good to hear success stories and take encouragement that the programme really does work.
  • Hi Emma, previous posts offer good advice ref good carbs equating to foods with a low GI. You're on the ball re brown rice etc. Like yourself I'm in the UK and I can endorse the recommendation for Diabetes.co.uk. They have a good weekly newsheet which you can sign up for and there is a good forum. The only previous point I…
  • As per the previous post, you can change your carbs by going into goals and choosing the personal option rather than the targets set by MFP which are too high in carbs for diabetics. There is a consensus view that a reasonable ratio target for Carbs; Protein and Fat would be in a ratio of 40:30:30 based on 4 cals per gram…
  • That's great news, very well done. Success stories are always an encouragement to those who are still striving to reach control limits, thanks for sharing your success.
  • Why not go the whole way and travel by private jet and then you can be pampered in the way you clearly desire.
  • That's a really great achievement and a just reward for all your hard work, very well done. Your methodical approach and careful analysis provides lots of useful information to many people in this group.
