  • not much you can do as calves are genetic. years ago, when i was anorexic and underweight, i still had muscular, shapely calves. in fact, now at 5' 3" and haven't been doing legs for years, they're still both over 16". luckily i think they look great and when i lose a little body fat, i get compliments on them.
  • find a kind of exercise that is fun and engaging for you. or maybe you're not getting the results you want. possibly you just need a break?
  • i lost weight doing only walking as exercise. walking uses your largest muscles in your body, and you don't have to walk fast - just walk continually for as long as comfortable. you could look into chair exercises - there are entire exercise and yoga routines for people with mobility issues. you could also look into…
  • i find if i'm happier or engaged in something i like or love to do, i don't binge eat. when i'm having a frustrating time or things really suck, that's when i go for the extra calories - it soothes me, but it also makes me heavier, which makes me less happy and more frustrated and i end up stuck in a vicious cycle. is…
  • each of your smoothies has around 275 calories or very possibly more. it's no wonder you're not snacking - that's as many calories as i have in a lot of meals. it's certainly the same amount of calories as a third of a blaze pizza with toppings, a bowl of dryer's slow churned ice cream or 2 servings of potato chips.…
  • when i'm doing well, i weigh myself about every time i pass the scale. not so well? every week or two...
  • i still love my fitbit one, and i wear it with a pedometer leash, which has saved it from loss several times.
  • most calculators usually report a higher burn than i actually get - when i used to eat back most of my exercise calories, i either stopped losing weight or actually gained. now i eat back about half IF i get hungry.
  • how many calories there are depends. are you making them from pillsbury pizza dough? if you make your own, weigh each ingredient and log it and voila! there's no reason a small one couldn't have 280 calories, but someone who uses a lot more full fat cheese is going to have a higher calorie cone pizza than someone who uses…
  • i'm half an inch shorter than you, and 1500 calories per day seems to be maintenance for me. if i eat 1800 calories per day, i gain weight unless i'm doing a lot of walking - an hour per day at a moderately fast speed - or 30 minutes a day of fairly vigorous exercise bike riding. even then, i don't lose weight at 1800.
  • i was having that problem. i discovered a serving of apple sauce every time i ate took care of it for me. prunes, too.
  • enough rest and not exhausting your body also helps you lose weight, and it's good for your heart, too.
  • if you want more complex carbs, you just eat more than one rice cake. as long as they're not sweetened, they're very easy to figure out if you know just how many carbs you need. i like lightly salted rice cakes - they have 7 grams of complex carbs per rice cake, so when i want more carbs, i'll have more than one. when i…
  • are you weighing all your food on a digital food scale? someone asked, but i didn't see the answer... also are you careful when you choose database entries for your foods? some are wayyyy off, so it pays to check the label and make sure the numbers match. i remember there was a guy who grabbed the first potato salad…
  • my husband's bread has a 20 gram range per slice - mine about 15. it doesn't sound like much, but almost everything i eat isn't a neat serving. quest bars tend to be over up to 10%. weigh your food and get better results.
  • i'd rather walk for a longer amount of time slower than faster for a shorter amount of time - for me, a continuous walk is more effective than a couple shorter ones, but i have friends who do a couple shorter walks and are happy with the results. i don't track miles, just time.
  • crystal geyser sparkling spring water.
  • i eat pasta and lose weight - i just weigh it and make sure the portion i have is good for my daily calorie budget. i used to go to disneyland and eat this full plate of pasta (LOVE the sauce at this one restaurant), which was quite large. now because of all the walking we do at disneyland, i can still eat half a plate but…
  • if i don't feel like eating anything, i eat anyway. it's necessary for your well-being. a simple blaze pizza is 660 calories of deliciousness. otherwise have some milk or yogurt or a quest bar every few hours.
  • i don't own a vivofit, but if it requires you to input your step length like most pedometers and fitbits, is it possible that you measured your steps before you really got going? my stride length measures 2 inches smaller or more when i first start out than once i get going, and that made a difference on distance accuracy.
  • if you're getting results, keep doing what you're doing. i got awesome results using the leg press machine myself.
  • good for you! i haven't tried his videos - well, to be fair, i haven't tried any videos - but i've heard good things.
  • unless you have diabetes or a thyroid issue, you're eating more than you think or burning much less than you think - or both. eating clean doesn't matter regarding weight loss, sodium certainly doesn't. low carb doesn't matter, either, unless you have PCOS, diabetes or something like that. unless you have an endocrine…
  • when i started eating at a deficit, i dropped to about half the calories i had been eating. for a few days, i was dizzy and weak every morning when i woke up, and i was always moody. i started eating just before bed, and that fixed the dizziness, but i stayed moody for a while. regular walking - over half hour per walk -…
  • being diabetic can change things. are your blood sugar levels under tight control, either by diet/exercise or medication? and do you weigh - not measure - all solid foods?
  • i eat back half my exercise calories if - and only if - i get hungry or feel weak on workout days between my normal eating. otherwise i don't worry about it.
  • the changes seem pretty useless to me. anyone who's going to bother reading a label won't need big bold text, and anyone i know (which is most people) who don't real the labels still won't bother regardless of text size. also i don't really care if the sugar is added or naturally occurring - sugar is sugar. to me, the…
  • anything you use will be an approximation. you can download endomondo to your phone for free - it's one of the few apps that tracks calories for lifting. if you attach it to your MFP account, it will immediately have your weight, age, etc, if it's in your MFP account. you can also pair endomondo with a variety of chest…
  • if you're not losing weight too fast (think over 2 pounds a week), and you don't feel weak or dizzy, you're probably not eating too few calories. those formulas that determine how many calories you should be eating are very general - they apply to the average person with the age, weight and height you input. i have less…
  • when you eat out, you usually eat food with a lot more sodium than at home, and that means your body will retain more water. also you might be surprised how many calories seemingly small plates of food actually have. they may look small, but different plating only makes them look small - restaurant food always has more…
