  • I don't get hungry at all any more - unless I go all day without eating. Are you definitely gaining weight/over maintenence (assuming this was supposed to be in this section)?
  • Jimmmer - thanks :)
  • Well, here's a TDEE calculator: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/ (there are lots of them, though, just Google it) Figure out your TDEE and add some calories to it (I think a 500 calorie a day surplus is recommended for men? Not sure). It might not be completely accurate - if you don't gain enough weight, add more.
  • It's more at the back - sort of feel like it might be the hamstring. It does feel like it slides over something though, which I'm not sure the hamstring would do... still, we have a foam roller, I'll give it a go. :)
  • Does anyone else get a kind of (not painful, just uncomfortable) 'clunking' feeling/noise inbetween the knee and hip when trying to rotate the hips/knees out, mid squat? Just with bodyweight? (trying to practice getting my knees out before tommorow's squatting)
  • You can set your own custom calorie goals in the 'goals' tab - if you don't know what to set it to, look for a TDEE (your calories needed to live normal daily life) calculator and figure out how much you need to eat above that to gain however much you want. If you just want your profile to reflect your goals, then maybe…
  • Recipe for chocolate ice cream with cocoa nibs and brandy (makes about 750g - 800g): 153g milk chocolate 500ml double/heavy cream 100g sugar 10ml brandy 41g cocoa nibs Pinch of salt Gently melt chocolate in a pan with the sugar and about 2/3rds of the cream. Add mixture to the remaining cream, add brandy + salt and…
  • Sorry, I should clarify - he has been back to squatting/deadlifting again for around a month now.
  • zachbonner - Thank you! No_Finish_Line - He has only been lifting since late summer last year, so he shouldn't be near his genetic potential. Ndj1979 - Unfortunately not :/ We'll have to start. DopeItUp - Well, he says he put on a lot of muscle through puberty (which he then lost due to barely eating while ill for a year…
  • Programming should be fine, we're doing Starting Strength.
  • Well, I've had a bad week. Couldn't complete my lat pulldowns twice, couldn't do all my deadlifts, then I couldn't do a single bench press today (just 1kg increase from the last session, which wasn't even too difficult). Took .5kg off the bench press and managed about one set before failing again. Also, my squats weren't…
  • Thanks for posting that. I did have a look at it and tried the first bit but I couldn't feel anything happening in my upper back. I will try the others when my lower back isn't so sore (if that ever happens, anyway). Thanks for your input. It's good to know that lifting has also helped you. It must be very hard having…
  • Have you figured out what your maintenance is and eaten over it?
  • Okay, I see now.
  • Could you confirm what you mean about the good morning-ing, as I'm not very familiar with these terms yet? I get that my chest is pointing down too much, though I don't understand how that's pushing the weight up? EvgeniZyntx - We were doing this gymnastics strength program thing my husband found, at one point. That was…
  • I know I said I'd wait a few sessions before posting a video, but I had some new issues today while trying to implement the changes. First off, a narrower grip actually seems to cause circulation issues... Don't ask me how. I literally felt the blood rush back into my hands upon stepping away from the bar. That's not…
  • If it's freezing that hard, have you considered adding more sugar to your recipe? That's supposed to be a contributing factor to texture. madiha1397, I'd recommend halloumi fried in butter. Delicious.
  • Wow, thanks for all the advice. I didn't realise my upper back wasn't tight enough. I thought I was bracing it. Will have to work on that. EvgeniZyntx - Okay, I see where you're coming from - but aren't pistol squats/lunges, etc, just the bodyweight alternatives to squats and such? Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't…
  • MrM27 - Thanks for the reply. I'm not quite sure what you mean about the bar being unsteady? I did unrack it a bit to the side for at least one set (I rely on my husband to tell me if the position of the bar is correct - can't really tell otherwise; he was busy with the camera) - so it was a bit lopsided, though can't say…
  • Just a short reply as I'm in the middle of something - these are (at least supposed to be) low-bar.
  • In regards to doing four sets of five - I think that would mess with the programming a bit, since I'm supposed to do five sets of three. But I did take 4kg off. I think my knees look better, but they're still wobbling a bit. Not sure about the depth (I felt like it was deeper, but it really doesn't look it), neither was my…
  • Thanks so much, all of you. hill8570 - Okay, if the third wasn't deep enough I need to be more consistant. Thanks. I'm so relieved they're not all too shallow. Will try pointing my chest at the wall tommorow. I think I've been putting my chest lower down in an attempt to keep my head down. As for my knees, the second video…
  • Thanks guys. :) These are the only two videos I have at the moment. The first was taken in response to a request for a video because I was getting really bad headaches when I started to valsalva. It is, unfortunately, taken from my husband's height - he's 6'1, and I'm 5'1. The other video was just taken for us to look at…
  • I'm trying to go below parallel. My husband watches, and thought I was, but he has always said it's difficult to tell. But now I've been accused of doing half squats! :(
  • Would anyone be willing to look at a video of me squatting? I've just been told they're not deep enough but my husband says it's the angle (he's a lot taller than me). I've not stalled once since my initial post. ...Please? I'll PM the link. It's embarrassing enough without the whole forum being able to see.
  • It's the same as with weight loss, really - usually people do once per week, in the morning before eating/drinking, after using the bathroom. You probably had 2 pounds of water weight, food weight, etc (sorry).
  • Hi - first of all, you have my sympathies - IBS is horrible. I have it too, and am gaining weight but for other reasons. I also suffer from severe bloating - and nausea sometimes. The nuts, olive oil and avocados are good ideas. Calorie dense foods I personally don't get bloated from: cheese, chocolate, full-fat greek…
  • Not that I was stalking it or anything... but it got moved to some sort of mod-only section.
  • It's cold - hot chocolate? 250ml whole milk 50g chocolate 30ml double/heavy cream marshmallows! That'd give you lots of calories. Though I suppose it won't help you in terms of improving your diet as you said in your first post. But you could just eat it in addition to your smoothie. Oh well. Just an idea. Hot chocolate is…
