UK packaging and sodium values
Just a note to people who add foods to the database in the UK. Our food packaging typically lists the amount of salt in grams per 100g/whatever rather than sodium in milligrams. To convert to sodium, you need to take this value and divide by 2.5 then multiply by 1000. So 0.11g salt is 44mg of sodium (not, say,…

Inzer belt in the UK
My husband is trying to buy an Inzer belt in the UK and would rather not buy from them directly due to shipping times, etc. Does anyone know where to get one from?

IBS - FODMAP list doesn't make sense for me
A while ago I went to have a test for Coeliac disease as I noticed I mainly get bloated and constipated after eating wheat. The blood test indicated I didn't, and after talking with the doctor they decided I most likely have IBS. They gave me some medication but it just made things worse, so I stopped taking that and…

So, who else can easily eat half a kilo of cheese in one sitting?
It's not just me, right? :( It seems to be the one food that I just can't help myself with. I can eat some very day, worked into my diary, and that's it, I'll eat no more - but put some in the middle of the table during the family dinner and everyone else is finished? Willpower gone.

Example before and afters (10lbs to lose)
Hi, I'm trying to figure out a goal weight based on body fat % (don't really have an accurate way to measure, though - using calipers and reference pictures). My husband and I think I'm about ~28% fat at 135.5lbs. So I used an online calculator and it said I needed to be about 125lbs to be 20% fat. The point of this post…

'Beans, french, mature seeds'
I'm trying to find the correct entry for the french beans I ate (in grams. Not cups.) - almost all of them, including information from elsewhere such as the Tesco website, and verified entries for 'green beans' which are the same thing, say 20-40 calories per 100g. But the entry called 'Beans, french, mature seeds, cooked,…

Buying coffee for a friend's birthday
My husband's best friend's birthday is coming up and we'd like to get him some coffee as he loves it so much. We, however, pretty much hate the taste and know very little about it. Was wondering if anyone could give me some tips? I'm particularly stuck on what 'grind' to buy. If you look here:…

Kung po chicken - anyone know roughly correct information?
I just had a portion of Kung Po chicken from a local chinese takeaway (in the UK). I don't know of any chinese takeaways that actually publish calorie information, so took a look through the database - all the entries seem too low for calories, and carbs. I've picked an entry and doubled the portion size, which puts the…

Cocoa nibs recipes?
I have some raw cocoa nibs which are already losing their flavour, so they need using. Has anyone got any suggestions? Nothing too high in calories, and preferably not flour based as I have IBS and it bloats me. Also, don't know whether it's just the ones I have, but they seem to lose their flavour if they're baked into…

I bulked and just got fat.
I've been bulking for a few weeks, maybe a month, I don't know. At first, lifting was a bit easier. Then it went back to how it was before - failures, fatigue. So I kept increasing my calories. Been eating 2300, my maintenance is 1700. I've just put on a few pounds of fat (my scales read body fat percent. And I can see it.…

Does anyone find that nobody actually believes you?
My family, other than my husband, despite being told several times I'm bulking, don't really, truly believe it. They keep saying things like 'oh, though you probably couldn't have that' (because it's high calorie) and 'but aren't you happy you're losing weight?'. It's really weird. I kind of suspect it's because I'm…

Dancing suggestions?
I'd like to try some form of dancing in an attempt to increase my proprioception. At least, I think it would help with that. However... I need something that A. I can learn by myself and do at home B. Doesn't involve explosive movements - as in, not jumping about a lot (I have hypermobility syndrome, so this wouldn't be…

Is it possible not to put muscle on while bulking and lifting?
I'm asking for my husband. He is absolutely convinced he isn't gaining muscle, only fat. His weight gain is an average of 1lb - 1.5lb a week. He's been bulking since late November/early December. Had to stop squatting and deadlifting in December due to an injury, but was still doing overhead press, bench press and…

Advice for quad injury
My husband injured his quad/hip flexor in December and it's taking a long time to heal. He's bulking and lifts three times a week - injured himself during squats, and can't do them now, or deadlifts, due to the injury. He has been doing warm up sets with the bar and occasionally with a small amount of weight, to try and…

DOMS in wrist/hand/fingers after negatives
I have some really bad delayed onset muscle soreness after three sets of negative pull-ups/negative chin-ups/whatever they're called on Monday. What concerns me is that it extends into one of my hands and fingers. Does anyone know if this is normal? I've had many issues with my hands (I have joint hypermobility syndrome)…

Failing to lift when miserable
I seem to fail to lift weights when I'm depressed. There's not really a struggle, it's like I just hit a brick wall, I just can't do it no matter how hard I try (and then I sob. Thank goodness I do this at home, right?). Is this normal?

Does IBS bloating make you weigh more?
My weight has stopped going down, but I've been bloated for a few weeks now and I'm wondering if it's because of that. Don't understand anything about what bloat really is though, so how realistic is that possibility?

IBS medication - a bit confused
So, I had a blood test done for Celiac disease and was told I don't have it, so I probably have IBS and gluten containing foods trigger it. I'd been feeling quite awful (nauseous, extremely bloated and constipated) while increasing my gluten intake for the blood test and the doctor prescribed some medication (Colofac, I…

Should I eat more calories?
I eat 1200 calories. If I do no exercise (that includes going for walks and stuff), I actually maintain my weight. Which is ridiculous, but there you go... possibly something to do with being quite short (5'1). Anyway, when I do my daily walks/jogs/strength training as normal, and eat back the calories, I lose at half a…

Maximum amount of iron?
I was reading a thread here the other day about iron needs and decided to buy some supplements, seeing as my diet is quite low in it. However, the supplements provide 114% of the RDA (for women, I believe, so about 14mg). My fitness pal says I have about 30% a day. So if I'm working this out correctly, I could end up…

Trying to eat fewer carbs... now need 500 extra calories
I realised recently that carbs make me hungry. So I'm trying to lower them to around 50 a day. I've planned my meals for today, however, and now have 538 calories left. Really have no idea what to do with them. I'm already going to eat cheese, eggs, meat, vegetables.. so I'm stuck. We don't have much in the house either,…

Days where you can't lift as much as you should
Is it normal to occasionally have days where you simply can't pick something up, even though it's only a small weight increase from last time? I'm finding it really discouraging. It's specifically happening with my deadlifts (currently at 42kg). I do them three times a week, with an attempt at a 2kg increase each time (I…

Protein in fruits and vegetables
I have a question about the database. Some fruits and vegetables I add to my diary appear to come with a gram or two of protein in them... for example, apparently my 150 grams of courgette has 2 grams of protein and 30 grams of dried figs have a gram. I'm not really sure I believe this and have been mentally subtracting…

Gluten free flours
Well, I possibly have a gluten intolerance and after a few days of overeating gluten-heavy food and feeling terrible, I thought it might be a good idea to take it seriously. I have a habit of craving foods I can't really have. Like cookies. Technically, yes, I can have them, but sometimes they would take up too many…

Honey in greek yoghurt
I have a bit of a weird question for those of you who eat yoghurt with honey. How much honey do you use in proportion to yoghurt? In grams, if possible - I'm fussy like that :p It's just, whenever I use honey, I always seem to put either too much or too little in.

My metabolism seems to be very low
I've been doing this for, about, nearly two months. I've lost 7/8 pounds out of 35, and have stopped there. I'm on 1200 calories a day. My TDEE is supposed to be 1562, with no exercise. I was doing exercise before and was losing weight, eating back the calories. I have stopped, and my weight loss stopped with it, despite…
