I burn about 600 kcal over 40k at 28-30kph

The whole ‘run on an incline to simulate outside’ thing is really old school. I don’t think anyone recommends that any more. It just stresses the Achilles in different ways and causes other problems. If you’re finding it too easy, just up the pace a bit so effort level feels the same, treadmills are all calibrated…

You just have to listen to what your body says is overdoing it- looks fine to me. I cycle 500k a week and run about 60k a week
-
Seems massively high
-
6000 calories for a 100 mile ride?!?!?!?!? I burn about 1500
-
Have you had gait analysed and in the right shoes?
-
Just get up earlier
-
I ride 40k to work and just eat breakfast when I get there. A 10k cycle really shouldn't need any fuel.
-
I don't think anyone can decide this! I run usually at 7 min miles. Fast compared to some friends, slow compared to my husband. A 'good time' is one that's gradually improving

I'm a competitive athlete. I train 2-3 x a day. I don't have rest days unless my body tells me to, I think I have had one in 2016. Mixture of easy and hard training, I don't need full days off
-
Agreed, this is a very short event, I would be done in just over half an hour so you really don't need to change your diet at all and it won't need any 'long hours' Good luck with the training and hope it goes well

I've seen 3 sports nutritionists recently. All disagree. This 'calorie is a calorie' is very old school, and they all now believe the body processes calories in different ways
-
I disagree that a calorie is a calorie. I've recently had lots of sessions with a sports nutritionist. I was eating about 2,300 a day, still am but have dropped a lot of sugar, and am eating carbs in a pyramid style and have dropped lots of weight. Same calories, different foods. Sugar makes me store fat.

I've had mine properly measured at a sports clinic and I burn on average 71 per mile
-
Rest days aren't essential every week. I train twice a day (duathlete) and don't generally ever take rest days. However, if you are injured or feeling really ill there is no point training through it, sit on the sofa for a bit!!!
-
I don't have rest days, I train twice a day at least (running, cycling, weights) and with mixture of hard and easy sessions, don't need them.
-
2100 calories for a 14 mile run is crazy!!!!! I have had mine tested and I burn 67 calories per mile. Lots of places will tell you 100 but much more than that is just getting silly
-
I'm a competitive cyclist and runner. Train at least twice a day, 3 times some days, no rest days just varied effort levels. The body can do a lot more than people think without this ' burnout' everyone seems to think will happen
-
Depends what time you have I reckon. If you are doing hard runs tues/thurs, you only need the extra runs to be easy anyway. Can you do an easy run in the evening after the class, that's what I would do, assuming you don't want to get up earlier. Or can you get an easy run in at lunchtime?
-
I train for 2 hours in the morning, during my lunch hour and then an hour or two after work. I'm still alive ;))
-
That's not cheap for quest bars. Can always pick them up for loads less than that site
-
Can usually pick them up on eBay about £18.99 for 12
-
Yep, really reliable- they're great

I was drinking copious amounts of Pepsi max. Went cold turkey and quit, everyone said I would feel loads better, I actually didn't. I now have it in moderation which must be better..... Really enjoy it as more of a treat now rather than heading for chocs!
-
I now also have a really bad cold. It's come on pretty quick. Fever, sore throat, achey, tired and sneezing so much it's like I have allergies, sneezing fits every few minutes. Can't be bothered to make any proper meal, but I just want to eat sugary cereal and eat all the chocolate in the house. This won't help!!

31st July for me :) I would like to be about 7lbs lighter by then. Mine is on a Greek beach so I also need to be bikini ready!!
-
I normally ride somewhere around 1,500- 2,000 miles a month but my goal will be to ride PBs in my local time trials. I'm going to be at the first 3 days of the Tour de France this weekend so there's my inspiration right there!
-
I still need more friends. I'm doing quite well but finding it hard. Be my friend :) :)

Thanks for all the comments. I'm never in a peleton, I'm a time triallist, so I'm never drafting anyone. I am going to try up my protein a bit, but I find my performance really struggles if I drop carbs too much so need to keep an eye on it. All my carbs are mainly from fruit and veg, I do eat porridge/oatmeal too but no…
