  • I try, but I sleep VERY poorly. The best night's sleep in 2 months, I was on vacation & probably had a lot of cocktails. But I make an effort-dark, quiet room, no caffeine at night, comfortable temp...
  • Thanks to all, I hadn't really started a workout to feel exhausted-from having used a good amount of energy. Trying to cut back on the sugar & caffeine too. It was a strange feeling from changing to eating less & great quality of food. Appreciate the feedback!
  • Fage plain, fat free yogurt, 3/4-1 cup spoon sized shredded wheat & 1/2 cup. unsweetened applesauce, mixed together.
  • Maybe you're obsessing, because this is the first time you've been freaked out & are taking it all REALLY seriously? You need to find what works for you. And maybe if we all took things MORE seriously, wwe would be as successful as you have been. As someone else said, definitely talk tto your doctor, but I admire your…
  • The kittens are AWESOME!
  • Um, let's look at BMR. The lower your weight, the lower your calorie needs UNLESS you need to compensate for activity to maintain. Metabolism will not STOP. How would that be possible? Your metabolism is the energy your body needs to function: breathe, circulate blood, cellular regeneration, daily movement, digestion. Who…
  • Remember BMR is a CALCULATION on paper RMR is an ACTUAL result from a physical test. I have done the test(s) as part of a study and it was lower than the calculation on paper-I was younger & in better shape, which would calculate higher. Everyone's body is different, and you may need to play with some numbers and work…
  • Dale-that 2100 calories is to MAINTAIN your current weight. So, what MFP suggested MAY be right for you. And men lose weight faster (initially) because of higher muscle density-totally physiology of the human body. I DON'T eat my activity calories. That's entirely up to you. If you ate the 2100 cal & your exercise…
  • Totally OPTIMISTIC! It's a mathematical equation that my make sense if you're Rocky! Lol
  • The BMR calculator that I use online calculated you @ approx 2100 for your CURRENT weight & 1590 for the Mrs. If you want a good comparison use the Harris-Benedict equation manually:Women: BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years) Men: BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) +…
  • THEORETICALLY, if you go with your BMR for your current weight, you will maintain. You need to be in a calorie deficit to LOSE. Your wife is only 4' 8"? 1200 seems ok by all math. I need to lose 45 lbs @ 5'1" and my BMR for my GOAL WEIGHT is 1100-1200. And MFP won't calculate less AND you guys need to START somewhere. If…
  • Ariel. It IS Jack Sparrow at his Pirate Tutorial in Magic Kingdom
  • I move a LOT in my day. Which is great, but if you do that EVERYDAY, it wouldn't count. Perfect illustration of this is heavy marathoners. One MUST train to do a marathon, you don't just run 26.2 miles. BUt they eat a lot anyway & run regularly, so it diesn't do anything for weight loss.
  • Does a food scientist count? I'm also a Disney geek, not like lanyard wearing at the park, I carry a Dooney purse-but that certainly shows an inclination towards engineering...and food tasting...Physics (Rockin' Roller Coaster). Yes definitely a science-y geek!
  • Working in foodservice for 25 years! i talk about food ALLLLLLLLL day long! Changing jobs is REALLY EXTREME! You need to learn new habits. Right now, I don't attend some Sunday dinners w/ fam because I'm trying to develop better habits, but I'm not gonna miss a wedding because of a cocktail hour buffet.
  • For the last part: Many of the MFP foods in the data base are missing portions of the nutrition info-pro, sodium, fiber...check, check & double check!!!! Yes the exercise it calculates for cal maybe to high (my treadmill is) so I think I saw someone else do this, I go with 60% of that total value. But I'm doing my best not…
  • Hello! So many suggestions. I followed the most successful weight loss plan for 25 years! I started in my teens, made my goal & had a few slip ups, but maintained that for 25 years. The past 2-3 years have been HORRIBLE! i GAINED 40 LBS OVER 3 YEARS! I have been actively trying for 2 years to lose, without much succes,…
  • for#2 I could eat my hand off right now! 1200 cal stinks!
  • Dancing is great! And i LOVE BILLY BLANKS!!!!! BOOT CAMP, TAE-BO..try amazon, the library or netflix?
  • LOVE THE "MAD FACE!" I don't talk to anyone if I go to the gym. I hate it that much I don't want to make friends-and I am a really, friendly, out-going person!
  • I HATE it too, BUT, it does make you feel so empowered! I like the bragging rights too! (7 miles yesterday-4.5 mile run!) I love the fresh air when I take my dog out. It's great for everything-muscles, joints, heart, and it's a really great example to set for your children & I think that it may help increase familly…
  • @ SoCal! Me too, so for someone who is shorter, its still 30 lbs (40 in my case) that need to go. We may be "fat" for us. Being overweight still has significant health implications. Whether it's 30-40-80-160 lbs that need to go, it's bad for your joints, blood pressure and blood sugar.
  • Great job! And the other posters who also replied! I don't know how to add a ticker or be someone's friend or follower, so any tips are great! Take a pic now-it's not too late!!!!
  • Hey. The most accurate is hydrostatic weighing BUT that's usually used for research. You can get hand held machines or scales, too but not as accurate unless it touches your hands &feet. EASIEST-are websites that you can plug in your measurements-google BMI/BMR calculator. You'll just need a tape measure! GOOD LUCK!
  • Thanks-did you eat your activity calories? Seems counterproductive to me. Just a thought.
  • What are you eating at PENN? Popcorn gets me everytime :)
