I think that's a question for each child's physician. Blanket statements about dieting make me nervous - especially in regards to children.

I was denied lung transplant surgery because my BMI was 30.2 and their cutoff is 30. They told me I had to lose 20 lbs to get on the lung transplant list. I started here the next day and lost 40 lbs to reach a healthy BMI. Along the way I decided transplant surgery wasn't for me but I've remained commited to healthy eating…

You've come to the right place. Keep showing up!

To clarify, Scooby calculator allows you to set exercise level when making calculations (just as on MFP) and I had set it to lowest setting ("desk job with little exercise"). Sorry that I didn't state that correctly. On Scooby as well as on MFP, a person has an option of adding in physical activity at the time you are…

Hello, another site someone suggested to me for calculating daily calories is here: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ I plugged your numbers in there and came up with very close to the same daily calories you've concluded (1753 cal/day calculating 4 meals a day and light activity). Your maintenance calorie…

I heartily agree on Yosemite! Sequoia National Park is another great site in California. Or, if you are a city person, San Francisco and San Diego are pretty sweet as cities go. Jog on over to Arizona to check out the Grand Canyon while you are on this side of the country.

Remember that the closer you get to your goal weight, the slower weight loss will be (you are carrying around less of a 'package' now so not burning as many calories). It seems like 10 lbs in 5 weeks is a lot to expect of yourself when you are only 15 lbs from your goal weight. On the other hand, practicing self-discipline…

I lost weight while allowing myself one or two drinks twice a week. I've reached my goal weight and found I can maintain while having one or two drinks 4 - 6 nites a week. If I start going over two drinks a day, I start putting on weight. If you are a heavy drinker and are having trouble cutting down, I suspect you are…

Shake it off. You have the tools to take care of this. Hope you had a great time on your vacation!

I'm not clear on why one needs someone to pay for losing weight when it doesn't really take money to change eating habits and increase exercise. You can find great free nutrition advice on MFP blog and other internet sources - you just have to spend the time reading. We all buy groceries, regardless - spend that same money…

Perhaps let go of your media-driven ideal of a perfect body. We don't all have the same body type. We don't all have the money to pursue surgical interventions as we age. You are active, at your ideal weight and, I'm assuming, you eat a healthy diet. If not, that would be something to focus on, rather than how you look in…

You are doing fine. It took a year for me to drop the second 20 lbs. Great job on the first 20!!!

As suggested above, try shopping for - and eating - healthy snacks instead of junk food. Instead of dieting off and on, modify your food choices, eat less, exercise more and drink lots of water. There's no magic bullet and there's no time like the present. You can do it!

I don't love Britney Spears... I don't even like her music at all. Why is this post on a diet and fitness site?

I've been drinking premier protein the past couple months for a protein boost. At 30 grams of protein a serving, I think it helps and only 160 calories and 1 gram of sugar so nothing to lose except money. But I'm an old lady who needs the protein and considers it a good investment.

Did anyone mention dogs? Leftovers go to the dogs. No waste, no guilt, happy dogs!

This is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Get in it for the long haul if you want to see changes. Three weeks isn't that much time invested. As at least one other person pointed out, if you don't have much to lose, you lose more slowly. Regular exercise will help and try considering this a lifestyle change. Instead of…

I'm also only 5'1" and need to keep it under 1200 to lose weight. I also have trouble getting enough protein when doing under 1200 calories. I just found Premier Protein drinks that have 30 g protein, 1g sugar and low fat. At 160 calories, I can have that for dinner and a tangerine for dessert. Might work for you as well.…

I wear top dentures and don't keep them in all the time when sitting around the house. I love my fresh fruit smoothies with whey protein powder but there's lots of regular food you can manage. I like cheeses, peanut butter (on very thinly sliced apples), eggs including hard-boiled eggs (egg salad sandwiches!), quesodillas…

I am 5'2'' tall and started logging and exercising almost 3 years ago when I hit 165 lbs. It took me two and a half years to get to 120 lbs. But that's OK, because I was trying to change my eating habits along the way so the weight loss would be sustainable. My goal is to maintain between 120 and 125 lbs. Right now, I'm…

What a wonderful job you have done! A great gift to yourself and your family!

I've been home for two weeks after two months in the hospital. Most of that time I was on a trach and ventilator. I have end stage COPD (was a smoker) and what would have been a bad cold for others turned into pneumonia and then respiratory arrest for me. Fortunately, I was already in the hospital when I arrested. I've…

You would have to get on a (hopefully) calibrated scale -- perhaps bat the doctor's office -- to be able to determine which of your two scales is accurate. In the end, you are tracking your weight to determine what you have lost and that number isn't impacted by the new scale - you are as close to your goal on the new…

Nope, I still look old... but I feel younger since losing the weight and that's a win.

Perhaps taking regular walks out in the sunshine would be a good exercise for you. The body is capable of producing its own vitamin D through the action of sunlight on the skin. "It is estimated that sensible sun exposure on bare skin for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times per week allows the body the ability to produce sufficient…
