I definitely suggest meeting with a trainer. S/he can give you tips about which cardio options might be best for you personally (you should ask about the classes offered as well as the various machines), but I think trainers are especially helpful for putting together a comprehensive weight training routine. Good luck and…

I hope you get there! I lost most of my weight (over 60 pounds) a few years ago, but still head to the larger sizes in stores. For me part of it is that I'd rather try something on and then ask for a smaller size rather than a larger size. Good luck and congrats on your loss!

Poke around on theshredheads.com for their 30DS Adaptation for Knee Problems or something. If it hurts in a bad way, don't do it! -LP

The family pictures from my sister's wedding.....I've always felt like I ruined them because everyone else looks so healthy and normal-sized. That was the first time I felt that others were possibly affected by my weight too. (I'm not from a materialistic family and they would feel really sad if they knew I felt that I…

Also, make sure you're using your whole foot and not just your toes to press the foot-thingies down. I've heard trainers tell this to people who complain about numb feet from the elliptical.

When it's really bad and I can't think about anything but eating, I go to sleep. If it's just pretty bad, I take a bath (preferably with a good book or a stupid magazine to read) and if I don't feel better afterwards, I go to sleep. If it's not TOO bad, I work out, clean, organize, look up new recipes to try for the…

One idea: Don't weigh yourself anymore. Wait until you go to the doctor's to be weighed (or if that's just too infrequent, just weigh-in at home once every other month). Another idea: Stop allowing these cheat days. They don't seem to be working for you. Instead, allow yourself to go like 200 calories into the red twice a…

Not sure if this is the same, but when I was steadily losing weight and even now that I'm struggling with the last bit, this is what I go through: If I have a loss, I suddenly become really aware that weight fluctuates due to all sorts of factors and I tell myself that this is just a random "down-flux" and then I think I…

When I first joined Weight Watchers, I had a few weeks of intense dreams focusing around food and problems with adding and subtracting points (math is not my forte and apparently I was worried that would ruin the WW plan for me). I remember waking up a few mornings and being all upset because I didn't know how many points…

I want to read this when I have more time.

Take measurements instead (it's best if someone can do it for you, if possible). They often change even when weight doesn't, especially if you're working out. Good luck! -LP

I'm also 4'11!

I'm working on various food-related issues and super-exceeding my calorie allowance is one of them. I've made a lot of progress over the past few years, but one of the things I've been proudest of is logging my food intake even when--or especially when--I'm feeling kind of out-of-control and overeating. I hate seeing my…

I've been doing this for a few weeks (except weekends, usually). It's time-consuming but works really well for me. I end up looking foward to eating what's planned instead of developing random cravings for things I "shouldn't" have. Good luck! -LP

This is what I do also. My husband has not noticed that I no longer use salt when cooking and I'm pretty sure he shakes the same amount onto his food now as before.
-
Yes. I love the not working part of weekends, but the lack of structure is just not a good thing for me in terms of eating choices--especially on days like today when my "plan" is just to relax. -LP

Thanks for the thoughts!

Amanda, I have been going to my current therapist for a few years and although I started seeing him for a totally different issue, it's turning out that everything is so intertwined and we keep getting back to stuff that happened in my childhood relating to my body/weight. It may take a while to find a therapist with whom…

I agree that resistance training would be a good addition to your current workout. It's beneficial in so many ways!

I put audiobooks and engaging podcasts on my ipod and only let myself listen when I'm working out. Unfotunately, this is not conducive to intervals or weight training for me, but for steady-paced cardio, it works really well. Good luck! -LP

I've been thinking about making a veggie soup lately and if I can do it in the crockpot, all the better! Thanks.

It sounds a little high maybe, but these numbers don't sound impossible to me at all. To compare, I'm 4'11 (weight 134) and spent a not-very-vigorous 40 mins on the stationary bike this morning for 239 calories, according to my FT4. (It said my average HR was 130 and max 164.) -LP

I struggle with all kinds of perception issues since my weight loss. A huge part of my identity has changed (I can't be "the fat one" anymore), but at the same time, I still look fat to myself in the mirror. When I hear people talk about me (like when my trainer said that I'm just as fit as the women I comment about…

Not super exciting, but since you asked: Chicken salad (made from leftovers from my husband's roasted chicken) with lettuce and avocado in a Joseph's 60-cal pita; a cheese stick, and a salad (just lettuce and tomatoes). My AM snack, which is also packed is carrot sticks and plain yogurt for dipping. Packing lunches is so…

Congratulations on your wedding! I got married last summer and had 2 pictures taped to a kitchen cabinet--one of me looking good at a dress fitting and one particularly unflattering one of me before I lost weight. I also kept an origami kit on the kitchen counter with the idea that when I went in there to eat something and…

If you get HUNGRY two hours after your dinner, you probably need to eat more (or better) food for dinner, and maybe throughout the day. But if you get snacky, then yeah, it's a good idea to save up some calories for that. -LP

When I look through other people's food diaries, I'm fascinated by how much I eat compared to them. Although I generally stay within my calories, I really just eat so much. Wait, could this be why I struggle with my weight?

I know what you're saying and have had similar thoughts, but remind myself that it doesn't really make any sense to base my personal goal on someone else's goal or body. I'm 4'11 (currently 134 pounds) and see other women my height who are or want to be 100 pounds. I'll be so happy if I can get to and maintain 120. And…
