Both! Some days you may take it a little easier and just swim for an amount of time or to a certain distance. This builds endurance and burns fat if that’s your goal. Other days, you might go a shorter distance/time but focus on sprints or interval training to build strength and speed. Its very common with swimmers who…

Just got my versa in a few days ago.

Ya, Phelps got caught a couple times. Lochte swam at Univ of Florida and I also swam in the SEC. It's just a small world in the swimming community I guess. Don't get me wrong, Florida is known for some legendary workouts and everyone loved Lochte. Swimmers may be the hardest working athletes in college, but they're also…

I'll be pulling for the greatest swimmer ever to continue his greatness. Especially since Phelps has grown up so much. Lochte loves his weed. Lol

Lots of great advice here already and I'm late to the party so I won't pile on too much. My background is Olympic Trial level and NCAA. In short, 100% know what you mean and interval training is the way to go. You don't even need to do any sprinting to kill yourself. In fact, VO2MAX (max effort) isn't all that great for…

bump? or TL;DR?

For those with either of these devices... Do either connect to a chest strap if you want more accuracy? I just bought the PolarA360 and chose it over others just so I could use the strap on occasion. Thoughts?

I swam year round almost every single day on a club team and then college from ages 5-21. From ages 12-21, I was doing 2hrs in the morning and 2 at night. I'm 33 now. The only thing I have to show for it is about 30-40 pounds of extra fat from my post swimming days. I think we'll all be ok from chlorine exposure... Unless,…

I think I was the source to someone's frustrations yesterday. My whole life the etiquette to pass was to gently brush someone's feet and theyd either move to the side (so I could pass in the middle) or stop at the wall to let you pass. I'm guessing that note was never passed to swimmers who haven't been on a club team. Or…

Hit in the head? By what?

Short course yards, total 3,050 yards, about 45 minutes or so. 500 EZ warm-up 600 reverse IM order (150 of each stroke broken down into 50 kick / 75 drill / 25 swim) 400 pull breathing every 3 / 5 / 7 / 9 per each 100 (paddles and buoy) Main Set: 6x100's on 1:20 descending 1-5 6x50's on :35 holding at :30 or under 6x25's…

In an effort to simplify and clarify, I think a few in this thread have actually made it more complicated then it needs to be by arguing what seems to be semantics. To truly simplify: Eating at a large deficit won't grow muscle no matter how hard you try. However, it is not impossible to grow muscle at a slight deficit…

Thank you for that. Someone needed to say it. As for me, Optimum Nutrition - Chocolate... but to each his own. Now, because my wife made me go out and find an organic powder - I'm on some horrible stuff I wouldn't recommend to anyone. But at a certain point, you're really just trying to get it in your body. So I don't try…

That would be at least lightly active. If you're at 1200 cals and that busy at work, I would imagine your energy is zapped... Right? In my early 20's after college, I had a similar job with terrible eating habits and barely gained any weight (didn't work out). After I got an office job, it only took me a year to put on 50…

Yup. But he seems the scientific type, so whatever works.

Try to tuck your chin to chest a bit more and the booty (and buoy) will follow. ;)

Then you haven't lived my friend. ;)

Swimming in the rain is fun. Do it!

Looks good mpeters! (So that everyone knows, I really do enjoying giving advice... both mpeters and aquatic have great strokes... just giving constructive feedback. Hopefully I'm not seen as a know-it-all or, etc.) Just like you said, the 6kick drill would be good. You're a bit of a wiggler and from the underwater view, I…

Welcome! I've never used a lap counter. One way that MIGHT be useful is counting it in yards/meters as you go. So instead of counting to 4, you count to 100 (each lap being 25 yards/meters). That way, if you do lose count, you're asking yourself if you've done 250 or 300. Another idea is to alternate to kicking or a…

You can watch Phelps or really any other elite swimmer and notice the hitch I was talking about. Its not by accident - that's trained into you. https://youtu.be/3ugLmlrUkMY OK, I'll shut up now... Don't get to talk swimming much anymore.

Here's a video of the drill I was describing above. I guess you kick 6 times, not 5... doesn't really matter as long as you're getting full extension and rotation on either side with a pause of arms inbetween. https://youtu.be/DUYU6z0q1BQ And here's one for a "catch-up" drill: https://youtu.be/Fszey7mJSb4. I watched your…

^^^ Nailed it. I'm comfortable during the day but always hungry when I go to bed. We don't even have to be scientific about it... If you're losing weight, then you're eating fewer cals then your body thinks it needs... So you're hungry. And yes, MFP is way over on the cals per minute. I can swim 2 miles at a nice easy pace…

I'm late to the party, but you have a good stroke Aquatic. Instead of slinginging the arm and having to worry about elbow drag (which I don't think you have), instead attempt to rotate your body as your hand enters the water. "Elbow drag" matters when your hand enters too soon, but your hand is entering above your head.…

I lick the inside of my goggles... Probably 5+ times during 30 minutes in the pool.
-
Ha, I was never very good with kick sets. They used to make us do 10x 50's underwater dolphin kicks at the end of workouts. Bad memories...
-
And probably make you look way more tasty to sharks.

Anyone use "zoomers"? Are they still around? I used to hate those things.

Swedish goggles. I have no idea if they're actually Swedish. They're super cheap and you have to put them together... And the have no sponge... So it's just plastic to face. People either love them or hate them.
