  • Calories do matter. But macros matter too for many of us. Breads and simple carbs cause me to have food cravings, so I have to cut them. There are some good books out there. I really like Dr. Mark Hyman's Eat Fat Lose Weight. You can find the guidelines on line. Make some adjustments. You can do this!
  • Have you tried looking at a different type of diet - one, for instance, where you eat lots of fats, red meat, etc? Check out Abel James' page - http://fatburningman.com/. Also check out the ketogenic diet - http://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb.
  • I am carb cycling and it is working for me. I was stuck at a 3-month plateau, and it has helped me to break through. The science behind it makes sense. Our bodies do adapt to what we are doing - especially if you have a lot of weight to lose as I did when I started. Here's Heidi Powell's blog -…
  • Just starting this myself. Hoping to break through a plateau.
  • Just started carb cycling to try and breakthrough a plateau. I am doing two days low carb, one day high carb, repeat. On low carb days, I am doing 20% carbs, 40% protein, 40% fat. High carb days doing 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat.
  • I get dizziness too. Was finally diagnosed with benign positional vertigo - has something to do with my inner ears. I just have to pause between reps. Hold a position until the dizziness goes away.
  • You can still eat a high amount of calories eating healthy. In fact, many junk foods are low in calories. I second the advice here. Get a scale, measuring cups, and spoons, and measure and log everything. Even log any supplements you take, or sugar-free gum (they often have calories too). Don't eat back any calories you…
  • Oh, and as for the quality, I use California Olive Ranch olive oil. http://shop.californiaoliveranch.com/Mild-and-Buttery-Extra-Virgin-Olive-Oil/p/COR-100223&c=CaliforniaOliveRanch@OliveOils
  • Olive oil is a healthy fat, and you need healthy fats. I use 1 TBS when cooking a recipe for the whole family, but just a tsp when cooking a single serving. On salads, the vitamins in dark leafy greens are fat soluble, so a little olive oil is a great way to get your body to absorb the vitamins - or if you prefer fat-free…
  • I am 9 days in and have lost 4+ pounds so far. Haven't been hungry at all. I am following the same "diet" I did before (4 small meals, 2 snacks). Really haven't changed a lot except being mindful to eat more protein and get all my water in. Looking forward to the MAX Phase and then I am going to do Lean in 13.
  • Starting on Monday. The thing is, the plan is REAL food, clean food, and portion control. I have lost over 70 pounds (was up to 80 before the holidays) following the Shred Diet, but I have reached a plateau. The diets are almost identical with what you eat - small meals and healthy snacks. I am going to do my homemade…
  • I am starting the 24 Day Challenge on Monday. I have been using Catalyst and Thermoplus for about a month now. HUGE difference in my appetite and no cravings. Plus I have had TONS more energy. I am looking forward to the challenge!
  • Did you set your own calorie goal? How much are you trying to lose per week? 1000 calories a day is WAY too low. That will set you up for binges. I eat 4 meals a day 300-400 calories per meal, and two snacks equaling about 250 calories a day. My base calories for losing 1.5 calories a week is 1470, but days I work out, I…
  • I am vegan and losing. I went on the Shred Diet by Dr. Ian Smith a year ago and lost 75 pounds (I am up 2 pounds this week coming off vacation). I gradually started making the transition to a plant-based diet in January - cutting beef and chicken first and then finally dairy and lastly fish. I was losing really good until…
  • No need to pair foods or take supplements. If you eat a well balanced, whole foods (not junk-food-a-tarian) vegetarian diet, and consume enough calories for you, you will get enough protein. Great vegan sources include legumes, quinoa, buckwheat, chia seeds, hempseeds, nuts and seeds, vegetables (yes they do have protein),…
  • My favorite "gotta eat quick and get out the door" breakfast is a Van's vegan waffle, topped with nut butter, some chia seeds or chopped walnuts, and a banana. Depending on the waffle, some days I do two waffles and make it a sandwich.
  • I have been gradually making the transition to a plant-based diet for a while. I have lost 71 pounds since last July. As I have lost, I have made more and more changes to the way I eat. I now eat about 80-90% plant-based. Most days I eat 100% vegan diet. Sometimes I might eat an egg if I am really wanting one. If I am at…
  • Let's see, I have lost 70 pounds since August doing a low calorie program plus moderate (just getting off of my butt) exercise. But it doesn't work. Whatever. Seriously, I get asked every day, "What are you doing?" Several people have started doing what I am doing and have also lost weight, but there are those who want the…
  • I do a green smoothie every morning. About 2 cups greens (spinach or kale usually), a 1/2 cup frozen fruit (blueberries, strawberries, peaches, blackberries, or banana), 1 cup almond milk (I do unsweetened), 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt for protein, and a tablespoon of flax meal or raw cacao or PB2. Sometimes I had whey…
  • I watched it again yesterday.
  • When you lose weight as fast as you are losing, you lose muscle not just fat (regardless of how much you work out or how much protein you eat). When you gain the weight back (and you will starving yourself to lose it). It will come back as fat, and you will have a much higher percent body fat than you did when you started.…
  • Measuring food, counting calories, weighing oneself daily, exercising daily, etc. all can manifest in someone with an eating disorder, but in no way CAUSE an eating disorder. Eating disorders have deep emotional and psychological roots. The food behaviors are a manifestation of the disorder not a cause.
