I'm 31 years old and 6'1. My heaviest weight was around 210. I am now down to 168. My body fat percentage is excellent and my BMI is perfect. But I'm also a trim build, not bulky. I carry most of my muscle in my legs. I would like to have more chest muscle, but I am thrilled with how I look right now. Not big, but very…

My workout today is a perfect example of what I'm talking about: P90X Legs and Back = Lifting day Duration: 60 min Minimum HR: 115 Max HR: 158 Avg HR: 128 Total Calorie burn: 500 kcal So please, explain to me how this is NOT legit calorie burn?

I always wear my HR monitor (Polar FT7) during lifting. The P90X lifting days are intense enough to keep your HR above 100 easy, unless you sit around between the exercises. Since 100 is the top of the normal HR range (60-100), I consider that calorie burning. I also push myself harder during lifting to keep my HR up.…

So I went to the website and read everything she has there. I have a few degrees in science which taught me to approach things like this with a questioning mind. As I read I found a quote that I kept going back to. After I finished I read it again. Here is the quote, directly from her site: This diet "fundamentally rejects…

You should consider switching to a neutral foot strike or a forefoot strike. If you go to a running store to be fitted they will probably tell you that you are pronating when you heel strike with your running, then you will have to buy a special pronating shoe. There is a large movement out there pushing people away from…

GROKETTE: Please read- [quote/]Our livers can convert all the glucose it needs from protein sources. We don't NEED carbs to accomplish this. I WANT carbs in the form of vegetables and minimal fruits because I like them. Period, plain and simple. I never said glucose was a toxin, I said all forms of sugar we ingest,…

You REALLY need to read this article: http://www.fi.edu/learn/brain/carbs.html This is from the Franklin Institue Here is an excerpt: "Glucose is the form of sugar that travels in your bloodstream to fuel the mitochondrial furnaces responsible for your brain power. Glucose is the only fuel normally used by brain cells.…

From what I have been told by a professional registered dietician, it is better that you are slightly above 1200 than slightly below. You are pretty close, use some kind of fruit or veggie at the end of the day to bump you over the top. You are almost to your goal weight, keep it up!

"Sheesh" is right. I think you got a little more worked up about my response than I intended. I said nothing about lies or misinformation, I just would like to see the numbers supporting the claim. I have the Polar FT7, a HRM that has a chest strap, requires that I input my age, gender, height and weight. No, I didn't buy…

There are MANY responses to questions like this. Your caloric intake is all about NET. You must NET and average of 1200 kcal/day to avoid starving your body. What does NET mean? 1200 total kcal eaten in 1 day - 400 kcal burned in exercise = 800 kcal NET = BAD. You will start to destroy your metabolism 1700 total kcal eaten…

@kapeluza You still haven't answered my questions. BUMPity BUMP bump

Completely agree with erniemj. I would like to see some hard data about this. If you can prove to me that the kcal difference is SIGNIFICANT then maybe I would consider a higher end HRM. Show me that, by including the V02 my calorie burn, it is >10% more accurate. If I burn 500 kcal during a 60 min workout according to my…

Unfortunately on this site you hear a lot of opinion. Here is FACT: If you consistently average a NET caloric intake of <1200kcal / day 2 things will happen: 1. Your body will enter starvation mode. It will burn muscle, hang on to fat stores and destroy your metabolism. 2. When you are done being amazed by how you lost…

Just bought me a new pair of workout shoes, Vibram Komodo Sport. I was so excited to try them out that I couldn't wait to leave work and get them on. Who knows, maybe a new pair of exciting workout shoes will get you back in the mood? Mix it up, do something new, do something fun. Don't lose your drive!

There's part of the challenge, finding perspective. I'm 6'1" and just reached my goal of 175 lbs and I feel great. A very close friend of mine is a personal trainer, he is also 6'1", weighs in at 180 lbs and is absolutely RIPPED. The guy must have a body fat % around 5%. I guess this leads me to respectfully disagree with…

BMI is a tool established to help healthcare providers and others get a good idea as to where people are in relation to where they should be. It is primarily useful for people that are outside their target BMI. Once you get in the healthy range things change a bit regarding muscle mass vs body fat % etc, and the BMI is not…

http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Womens-Heart-Monitor-Watch/dp/B001U0OFDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306102957&sr=8-1 Amazon currently has the Women's FT7 for $88. Very affordable.

Polar FT7. It has the band around your chest and is very accurate with the calories burned for your workout. I went right past the FT4 because I heard so many good things about the FT7. I wouldn't go back!! *Edit Plus, the chest strap is cloth, not rubber or plastic. It stays exactly where it belongs, never moves. The…

I will be happy to ask. It may be a few days before I see her again. I will let you know what she says. Most of this is built off of a career in nutrition, but I'm sure she would have access to some recent studies.

It's the Polar FT7. You can find them for $80-$90 online I think. I got mine at Sports Authority. You enter in all of your physical info and it monitors your HR and calculates the # of calories burned as you work out.

I'm in the middle of it right now. It's tough but worth it. You will NEED weights, pull-up bar, push-up bars, and quality cross-trainer shoes. Each workout is an hour long so you must schedule it or you won't do it. Also, it requires dedication. Some days I dread coming home from work knowing what is coming, others I look…
