  • I wish I was debt free. I don't have to be a millionaire - just to have all my debts paid off. That would be great.
  • I'm at 1200/day and have felt okay about it so far - if I ever get off my lazy butt and exercise more, I know I'll have to increase that. :) This is my third week and I think I'm doing pretty well. Feel free to add me!
  • http://lifehacker.com/5890818/healthy-eating-for-people-who-hate-cooking Would you use a microwave?
  • I can't speak to the ketogenic dieting, but as far as juicing goes, my husband and I have tried it. You have to remember - juicing is NOT a diet. It's a CLEANSE. It is meant to clean out your system of all the junk during a certain time period, after which you start eating healthy. Weight loss is truly just a side effect…
  • FYI, you're already in your ideal body weight zone for your height. Dropping to 126 will make you at the extreme low end, and beyond that well underweight. So don't. You do know that alcohol is poisonous to your body, right? (And yes, I did drink and occasionally drink.) No one needs alcohol. If you can't imagine not…
  • Volumetrics. Foods with lower "caloric density" (like veggies and fruits) mean you can eat more, fill up, and cut back on calories more easily.
  • Something works for everyone. My husband went paleo a while back - no dairy, no beans, no pasta, potatoes, corn, peanuts...I whatever else false into that group. Yes, he lost weight. And he exercises 4x week (at least) doing weights. As for a calorie deficit, he ate plenty. At least a 1/2 lb of protein at each meal (for…
  • I think it depends on how many calories you have for your snack. I have about 160 calories left in my day (I make sure I save up for a solid snack). Cheese and fruit, a baked apple (microwaved with a bit of margarine, cinnamon and sugar, make a fruit smoothie with yogurt or skim milk.
  • I'm stumped about your breakfast. I looked up the cereal and the almond milk. 1 1/2 cups of cereal is 220, and 1 cup of light almond milk is 60. Are you eating anything else?
  • My husband was doing paleo for a couple of years, and I tried several times to make a decent bread. Nothing worked well. However, we ended up buying this awesome mix called Chebe. (www.chebe.com) I ordered it from Amazon since it was cheaper and had it regularly sent to the house. It makes four "buns" per box, however I…
  • I think everyone has a need to impose their own definition of happiness on other people. But what is "happy?" At the end of my work day, I'm happy relaxing on the couch, watching crappy TV and playing on my ipad. I'm happy taking a nap. :) My husband is the complete opposite. He feels better when he's doing something all…

  • 13suzie, you reminded me that I have a Greek dressing mix in my cupboard that I'd forgotten about! It's from Penzey's - has anyone ever shopped there? I love Penzey's! Here's the mix: http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/p-penzeysgreekseas.html
  • Turkey is 1600 cals total red beans is 315 chick peas is 350 black beans is 385 So the total calories you have for the entire dish is 2650. I don't know the entire volume of food that you've made, but a simple way to figure out calories is to figure out how many meals it takes you to eat this. Just taking a best guess, do…

  • Hi there! Burying the spam that got posted on this board and bringing up the real posts to the top. Did you ever watch the movie "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead?" Great flick, and it shows that we can rid ourselves of disease through dietary changes.

  • Hi there! Burying the spam that got posted on this board and bringing up the real posts to the top. Rather than dieting, have you tried a change in diet to help combat the effects of the diseases? Gluten free, paleo, etc?

  • I remember when I was in college my campus had a Mcdonald's and Little Caesar's Pizza, and a TCBY Yogurt on campus, not to mention all the fast food places immediately surrounding it. (I hope they've changed since then to some better options for students!) But, even fast food places have healthier options. It's all about…
  • I never have buttermilk either, but that's probably a good thing. :) I'll have to try using the yogurt as a base. Unfortunately I can't stand stinky cheeses, so bleu cheese is out for me. lol
  • We rarely have soda in our home now. When I was pregnant, I had gestational diabetes. When I went to the nutritionist, she showed me how much sugar was in a 2L of pop. I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of what she showed me, but I think this image is pretty telling: http://i.imgur.com/pzqfmru.jpg?1 We buy sparking water a…
  • I am probably the only person on the planet that loves these....but Rice Cakes. I adore them. I get the plain/low sodium kind - each cake is 40 calories. Yesterday I bought Philadelphia soft cream cheese - spicy jalapeno. TASTY! I use 1 TB of that which is 30 calories. For 70 calories I get crunchy, cheesy and spicy. It's…
  • Due to my work, I'm constantly glued to my laptop, so I will become obsessive about coming here and logging in all the time! :)
  • "When all of your friendships and relationships are based on food and bad habits." Yes. Yes. YES!!! My whole life revolves around food. My best memories with my grandmother are of us cooking together. When my mom and I get together, we always go out to eat. We always talk about cooking. We are always cooking, or eating, or…
