I use the same running shoes year round. I don't run on ice though, I will only run on clear streets or sidewalks. If it's that bad out that I cannot find clear path, then I run inside (which I absolutely hate)!!

No need to carb load for a 5k, though Great Job for making it there!!! The 'benefit' of carb loading really only comes in to play for races of longer distance, such as half marathon or greater.

I never used to eat breakfast, I'm a coffee junkie. So, now that I am trying to get back on track, I've been having an atkins or slimfast shake for breakfast. I am not much of a runner, more of a walker with a bit of jogging built in, but I much prefer outside! I get so bored w/ cardio anyway, so being outsite, the time seems to by so much quicker and I find myself willing to push myself further!

Welcome! I too just started yesterday, well, started yesterday for the 20th time!! But, had a great day yesterday and looking for a great day today! My plan is to take it one day at a time, if I fall off the wagon, I just get back on the next day! Rhonda
