Harissa is a good low-salt replacement for many condiments. Its easy to make or buy. Don't use Sriracha, its crazy salty. Foods that have a lot of flavor or spice don't need any salt. My wife makes a salt-free curry that is great. She made salt-free stuffed peppers. Today I made a chicken stir-fry without using soy…

My kidney doctor (nephrologist) told me to cut out salt as much as possible. Apparently it is really bad for your kidneys because it messes with your fluid retention, hence, high-blood pressure. I have my sodium goal set as 1400mg/day. It's a tough thing to do. I lost a lot of puffy weight that came from water retention,…

Same here. Did two pokes this morning and my left hand was 11 points higher than my right. I just hope that over time the averages will be correct

Some of these things take time. Right now it looks good, but don't be disappointed if it takes longer than you expect. Remember that once you get your A1c down below 7 you're not done, you have to keep it there.

I think you have developed a condition called "parenthood". Don't worry, the symptoms get better after about 20 years or so.

I'm on a low sodium diet on doctor's orders. Turns out salt is hard on your kidneys. My target is under 1500mg a day, and I'm usually able to hit that. The problem with "lite" and "diet" foods is that when they take out the yummy fats they replace them with yummy salt and sugar. The only times I go over my target are the…

Flower tortillas and pita breads make great pizza bases, too. Quinoa based salads are a good, easy choice and very different fr usual green salads

Talk to your doctor about depression. They have some questionnaire you can take. If help is needed the doctor can refer you appropriately.. There are a lot of tests on line, but then your all alone with your test results, not much help. Finding out for sure is your first step toward feeling better.

The reward for reaching my goal will be...reaching my goal! What more could you ask for? I guess the doctor letting me eat salty food again would also be a nice reward.

A long time ago I purchased some "Prepared One Skillet Meal for Tofu" I realized what it really was. Tofu Helper! It was goooood.

Firm Tofu. Lean pork is "The Other White Meat". Beans and Rice have protein. Turkey breast or ground turkey. Dog.

I have found when picking ingredients for a recipe that the bar code scanner works for ingredients as well as whole meals. The trick is to adjust the number of servings, since your recipe might feed eight, but the bar-code scanner will only give you the info for one serving.

Quick way to drop some weight: cut the salt. I'm here because a doctor told me I had to get serious and lay off the salt. So I have gone about as low sodium as a person can and still eat food. (averaging less than 1000mg a day) Without the salt my body has shed a tremendous about of water weight. For the first two weeks I…

OK, I changed the diary settings. I do see the issue on some nutrition labels. In this case I'm talking about my totals for the day

The Magic Solution is better. With Magic you don't have think for yourself. With Magic you don't have to make any effort. With Magic you don't need self control. Magic is FAST. Magic is as simple as spending money. Magic is as easy as avoiding (or eating) that ONE food. Given the choice I would always pick Magic...if it…

Actually, one of the worst things you can do is beat yourself up over a mistake. If you feel like you can make up for it later with exercise or scrimping the next day or two that's great, but even if you don't it's all good. Just get back on the wagon and keep going. Do not waste time regretting a few treats(or even a…

Well, now what? I'm not on insulin and I hope I can avoid it. The only measures I know of are BG and A1c. I do a fasting Blood Glucose every day, and I'm starting to add in another measurement an hour after lunch. How else would I track what's going on? Do you know where this research is?
