I use Fage 0. When I want dessert, I mix it with truvia and imitation coconut extract. When I want it with something savory, like substituting for sour cream or mayo, I mix it with raw grated garlic and some kind of dip powder (especially bacon flavored).

Just wanted to reiterate what worked for me - running SLOW, as in little old lady slow. Who cares how slow you go anyway? You're not racing anyone. If you go as slow as you can jog, it helps. I used to try to run fast and that killed me. The other thing that helped was music. I tried running here and there for years and…

You can probably maintain your existing muscle mass while on a calorie deficit if you do serious, consistent weight training (see http://www.jacn.org/content/18/2/115.full) but if you want to GAIN muscle you're going to have to put off weight loss.

I aim to get at least 80 grams of protein a day. On my 1300 calories per day goal that can be tricky (I actually eat more like 1600 calories a day and burn 300 of them off in exercise, so that I net 1300). I've come up with some things to eat that stay at at least 8 grams of protein per 100 calories. For example, Zoi Greek…

Since you "measure the circumference of your hips at the widest part of your buttocks" (from http://www.healthcalculators.org/calculators/waist_hip.asp) then you can change your ratio by building up your butt muscles :) I'm not sure how this would affect your health risks but it would certainly affect your shape!

Actually I just read a study on that diet: http://www.jacn.org/content/18/2/115.full The people in the study were on an 800 calorie per day diet for 12 weeks. The issue I see with this kind of dieting is that you might be losing a lot of lean body mass (muscle) instead of fat. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you'll see…

That's awesome! Congrats! Your body is probably healing your muscles and making them stronger and denser (hence the increased weight) while still burning fat (hence the lost inches)

When you say you're not happy with your legs, you are referring to your shape, which is different than your weight. I am pear-shaped too and I am 120 lbs and 5'3 and weight always, always accumulates in my thighs, *kitten*, and my tummy; there is no getting rid of that unless I go on a very strict cutting diet. Which I…

Wooo! Congrats!

It's possible but I've heard that losing any more than 1 lb of week does not give your skin a chance to adjust to your weight loss and you end up with more flabby skin that way. I can't speak from experience but it seems to make sense.

Thanks Newfiedan! So to gain muscle I would aim for about 1700 calories net a day (maintenance + 150) and within that, at least 25.5 grams of protein (17% bodyfat = 20.4 lbs lean bodymass x 1.25 = 25.5). --That shouldn't be hard, I usually consume at least 40 grams of a protein a day even when going for 1200 net calories.…

1. It is set to 1lb. a week, but even when I change it to 2 it still puts my goal at 1200 calories per day. 2. Generally pretty clean, I think. Eggs, edamame, nutrition bars, cream of wheat, coffee with just a tablespoon of sugar, or tea with a tbsp of honey. Occasionally I treat myself, like today's chalupa after soccer &…

This is almost as easy as it gets: 1 packet of Nissin chicken ramen noodles. That's 380 calories. When the noodles are almost done, crack an egg in there and cook & stir for another two minutes till all the egg is cooked. That's 70 calories (and protein), bringing your total to 450. For some added flavor, add chopped…

I just read this article which has a lot of good tips: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drsquat6.htm I'm the same way and one thing I'm going to try to do more of is breaking up my meals into 5 times a day (not going for more than 3 hours without eating) so that my body doesn't go into starvation mode and cling to fat. I…

I'm in the same boat. I've been 115 lbs for about 8 years and in the past year I've gained 5-10 lbs that are very stubborn. I started exercising more and restricting my calorie intake but like others have mentioned it's like my body is clinging to those extra pounds for dear life. I'm going to start to do more weight…
