  • Yes, having low iron does interfere. You can read about it here: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ferritin/ Ideally you would be taking an iron supplement of some kind and working toward keeping your anemia under control. Also, it's best to keep your thyroid med and your iron supplement about 4 hours apart.
  • Plus, it looks like you only have 17 pounds to lose. That's not very much. The closer you are to goal weight, the smaller your calorie deficit needs to be. Try eating at TDEE minus 5% and see if that helps.
  • While everyone is indeed different, if 1400 cals seems too "diety" to you then do take the advice others are giving and eat the extra cals you get from logging exercise. I can't do large cuts or diets because it's entirely unsustainable. Before some health issues struck, I had lost and kept off nearly 130 pounds while…
  • I eat eggs nearly every morning and animal products at all three meals, and sometimes for snacks. My total cholesterol is fine and my ratios are in the "ideal" range. But I also make sure I average about 35 grams of fiber a day, most of which comes from veggies and a little bit of fruit (but also from dark chocolate and…
  • Why do you "think" you have hypothyroidism? Hypothyroid symptoms are similar to those in many other problematic health issues. The only way to tell is to have a complete thyroid panel done.
  • The Meatless Mondays website has some really great recipes on it. You can even check out your local library to search for bean slow cooker cookbooks. There's a ton of ways to cook up dried beans. I've done streaks of Meatless Mondays every now and then and found myself cooking lots of Indian food.
  • It's hard to comment with your diary closed, but I would suspect given the amount of exercise you're doing that you are not eating nearly enough! Until you can get your RMR lab tested, try using this calculator to give you a better idea of how much you should be eating. Best results are usually found by cutting no more…
  • How were your other panel numbers tho? Your HDL, LDL and triglycerides? My total cholesterol jumped from 180 to about 220 after my TT, but the other numbers stayed the same. I eat a high fat, high fiber, whole food diet so I'm never really concerned about the total cholesterol number. If your HDL is high and LDL low, I…
  • Had my gallbladder removed a little over 20 years ago. But I never experienced any negative side effects. I wonder if the candida could have another source. Have you taken lots of antibiotics over the course of your life? Had chronic yeast infections? Eat too much sugar? Good luck on the diet. I tried to get my sister to…
  • Armour is regulated!. It's a drug that has to pass regulation just like Synthroid. Doctors love to say it's unreliable but that is not the case. It just might take a bit more work to get the dosage right. I was on 200 of Synth and 20 of Cytomel when I switched to Armour. So now I'm on a much lower dose of T4 (Synthroid)…
  • I think the answer might depend on where your thyroid levels are. I had my gland removed in June of 2011, and everything went fine for the first 7 or so months, then I hit a brick wall and went hypo. Loss of stamina and a ton of random inflammatory episodes. The latter of which were chalked up to "injury" but I never…
  • I have no gland and over the course of 2 years my meds were raised over and over again, finally reaching 200 of Synthroid and 20 of Cytomel. I've been on Armour for just 2 weeks at a dose that would be equal to about 76 Synthroid and 18 Cytomel. I don't have a long list of hypo symptoms, but dropping the T4 that much and…
  • I work a couple of evening shift each week, so having an empty stomach on a regular basis isn't entirely possible. But since I usually wake up between 3 and 4 every morning for a bathroom run, I take my pill then (was on Synthroid & Cytomel, now on Armour). I keep a glass of water next to the bed so I don't even have to…
  • I was in PT for sciatica last fall. We did lots and lots and lots of core work (supermans, balance boards), glute and hip flexor work. And I learned to perfect the yoga cobra pose. I ended up adding the core work to my regular strength training and haven't had a thing happen since.
  • My husband has moderately high cholesterol (around 250), but has found that supplementing with a red yeast rice/CoQ10 combo lowers that number anywhere from 30 to 50 points. We regularly eat eggs and other animal products, but shoot for a minimum of 35 grams of fiber a day and keep sugar to a minimum.
  • Please add me. I like ladies who eat!
  • ^^This. And how old is your puppy? The socialization window closes around 14 or so weeks. If your dog is younger and socialization is your primary goal, you might try looking for local meetups with dogs similarly aged and sized. I'd definitely skip the dog park for anything other than exercise during non-peak hours if it's…
  • I wore a Body Media for almost a year and found that it was overestimating by about 300 cals a day. The Scooby calc, as well as heybales's super awesome spreadsheet, was much, much closer and so was my Fitbit (when any activity over more than a stroll was logged here on MFP).
  • Last October I began having *huge* adrenaline rushes whenever I tried to lie down and go to sleep. Once asleep, I'd be fine. This went on every single night for about six months. My dr threw some Ambien at me, but that didn't really work and the list of side effects is horrifying. I had to "train" myself to go to bed.…
  • How do you feel tho? Often a TSH number doesn't provide a full picture of overall thyroid health. I had my gland removed almost two years ago and have found that the only way I can lose weight is by not eating over my TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) . There's a thyroid group here on MFP where you'll find lots of…
  • I think that's only a question your dr can answer. While I've never had high blood pressure, I can say that my resting HR went from the high 70s to the low 50s after my TT. It just seemed that everything slowed down. But I don't know what the correlation is between heart rate and blood pressure is.
  • I had my gland removed in June of 2011. A year later I had my RMR tested at a university lab. Granted it wasn't with an overnite stay, but the results were still pleasing. I came in at 1699, so if I laid in bed all day, that is what I could take in. Fortunately, despite having a nearly sedentary job, I still move around a…
  • I can get with no white flour and no sugar. It's surely made a difference in my post-thyroid life. But if you like meat and seafood why give it up? I got sent to see a cardiologist last year and got the all clear, but still got a lecture on how going "nearly" vegan would be best for me. I just don't buy it. Did your endo…

  • There's nothing wrong, as long as you drink them
  • To my knowledge Cytomel is the only synthetic T3 around. Someone else may know of others. But synthetic is not the only way to add T3. You can also ask your dr about natural dessicated thyroid meds like Armour or Nature Throid. But be prepared to be answered with eyerolls. And congrats on losing the 19 pounds! That's…
  • I use a Fitbit only to help me determine my TDEE. And then I use an HRM to get my average heart rate during exercise, which I then plug into a formula based on my VO2Max to figure calories burned and enter that number here on MFP. So far, so good. The only thing that motivates me is how my jeans fit :)
  • Hi Faye. Hold your head up gal. I think all of us here are "works in progress" so you're not alone. I would first say that it sounds like you do not lead a sedentary life, so 1200 is too few calories. Esp if you're cycling. Your body is going to hang on to every single calorie it can get! Make sure you get some strength…
  • Prior to losing my thyroid, almost two years ago, I could average around 2500 cals a day and still lose weight. But I find now that it's closer to 2200. Any much over that and I will instantly gain. After a 30 pound gain, I knew that what worked before wouldn't work any longer. I think something like Atkins is…
  • Craft beer is my kryptonite. All of this was much easier when I only drank Beck's 64
  • At around 2100 a day I am able to lose weight. Too much more than that and I will gain pretty rapidly.
