  • I gave up diet soda a few years ago and replaced it with mostly water and far too much beer ;) But I also like Steaz, a brand of canned flavored green or white teas sweetened with stevia. And sometimes drink Izze, a kind of sparkling juice.
  • Looks like half of your fat intake is coming from cheese and ranch dressing, so both saturated and trans fat. Make a small change by making your own vinegarette dressing with olive oil. Try adding nuts or avocados to your diet.
  • I would venture to guess that you're not losing weight because you are exercising too much and eating too little. Sounds like you're not properly fueling your body so it's hanging on to every fat cell it can. I'm not sure where you heard that hypo folk only burn around 800 a day. Everyone's BMR is unique. I had mine tested…
  • I started taking my D at nite with my magnesium. Based on a tiny bit of research that led me to believe you need the mag to absorb the D. Or maybe vice versa. :) But I dunno. I know it's fat soluble, so I'll see what my labs say. If it's still low, then I'll take it in the morning when I know I get plenty of fat. But then…
  • I just barely miss the Free T3 range (2.4-4.2) whether I take my T3 the same day or not. I think like we always say, "it depends on you feel." And If you feel fine, then your labs are fantastic! How long have you been on that D regimen? I'm about 6 weeks into taking 5000 a day and hope it goes up. I'll know in March when…
  • Gorgeous!
  • I'm doing my second Whole30 (http://whole9life.com/2012/08/the-whole30-program/) and find that while I do have more energy, I don't necessarily "feel" any different. That said, it's the only time I've ever been able to lose weight since my TT 18 months ago. It's a great way to eliminate some foods and then gradually add…
  • Since all of my thyroid levels are optimal, I've begun looking elsewhere and hypoglycemia keeps popping up. Have an appt with my primary on the 18th so we can talk about what's going on. It doesn't happen too often, but every couple of weeks I get terribly woozy, just for a few seconds, then it goes away. Sometimes I get…
  • I'm 51 and have just barely entered menopause (while also losing my thyroid gland) and things are not nearly as easy as they used to be! I would also suggest adding strength training to your exercise. As we age, we lose muscle/lean body mass and our metabolism suffers as a result. I have to test and retest and stay on top…
  • How old is your mom? If she's still having periods then she's more likely to be in late perimenopause. That's where I've been stuck at in the last year and I'm 51. It's a hellish limbo. Exercise helps keep stress low which then keeps hot flashes low. But everyone is different. Has she had her thyroid checked? If not she…
  • I use the Scooby calculator (http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/) to determine my TDEE, then use the custom goal settings here. As long as I don't eat over that amount (currently 2013) I can lose weight. But anything over and I will stall and/or gain rapidly! Having to worry abt exercise calories and net is too…
  • I was subclinical hyper for years and a couple of years ago RAI was initially offered as a "solution." But turned out that my entire gland was carpeted with toxic nodules. Biopsies were determined to be "indeterminate," so a TT was presented as my only option to find out if any of them were cancerous. They were not, so I'm…
  • I'm a book hoarder...and work as a librarian!
  • UGH! I feel ya. If T4 converts to T3 and that's what your body uses....ummm....It doesn't seem like rocket science, right?. I don't blame you one bit for being angry. It took me over a year post TT before my endo would prescribe T3, but now he's fully on board with MY plan. I'm not his biggest fan, but he at least admits…
  • I tried the night gig early in my "career," but that didn't work since I have an odd work schedule and don't eat at the same time every day and take an iron or a calcium supp at odd hours. So I ended up taking mine in the middle of the night! Usually between 2 and 4 am when I make a bathroom run. It didn't make a…
  • Both my endo and primary don't think it has anything to do with the TT, but I'm not so easily convinced. It just all seems more than a coincidence! I felt fine for the first 8 months, which ironically was when I was left mildly hypo while my Synth doseage was gradually upped. I've been on an additional small dose of…
  • Thanks for your reply. I do have all those tests done. My D is always low as is my ferritin. I supplement for both. And my thyroid panels are optimal. My endo approves of me letting my engine run a little fast. I have to get my reverse T3 tested next week and that might be the issue. But I'm mostly just wondering if anyone…
  • I have the same issue. When I was subclinical hyper my resting was in the 70s, but after my thyroidectomy it fell to the 50s. And I'm certainly no Lance Armstrong! I used to wig out about it, but just finally decided it was part of everything just slowing down. It's very hard for me to get it in the 140s even while…
  • I was subclinical hyper for years, but never had any issues like what you're describing, until I had my gland removed. I can really only comment on the hair loss. While it is a symptom of thyroid issues, it's also a side effect of the medicine itself, but supposed to calm down after a while. You might have your dr test…
  • I had my resting metabolic rate tested in a lab earlier this year (and about 10 months after my thyroidectomy), at a time when I was mildly hypo. The results were only slightly lower than other women my age and with similar body composition. I've always eaten well over 2000 calories a day so my metabolism never had a…
  • I use this recipe every once in a while http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Meat-Loaf-and-Mashed-Potatoes-230136 But also use a mix ground beef and turkey breast, egg, spices and grated zucchini for the "filler" as opposed to bread crumbs or oatmeal

  • I had my RMR tested in a lab this past summer and it while slightly lower than normal for a woman of my age and body composition, I've found that the Scooby calculator is only off by about 100. So I adjust from there and for the last month or so I've had great success with eating as close to the 15% TDEE cut number as…
  • My numbers are pretty close to yours and I consider myself moderate. I've been set at 2031 for the last 3 weeks and things are working out perfectly.
  • I'm eating at my average TDEE, which is 2031. As long as I stay near that then I can gradually lose. Prior to losing my thyroid 16 months ago, I averaged around 2400 daily. Needless to say, things have changed. But drastically cutting or reducing calories has never worked for me in terms of keeping it off. I find the…
  • Make sure to have a full thyroid panel done. Your doctor may just want to test your TSH and that's not the most reliable means of diagnosing thyroid issues. At the minimum you should have TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 tested. The tests are explained here: http://thyroid.about.com/od/gettestedanddiagnosed/a/bloodtests.htm…
  • Sounds like you will. A dr that treats you according to how you feel is a good thing to have! I have to nudge mine in the right direction from time to time.
  • LOVE a SpiBelt when the weather doesn't call for a jacket. It's super stretchy and doesn't bounce much at all. And conveniently holds my phone and keys. But for the other 6 months of the year when I run in jackets/coats, I simply use the pockets.
  • You need to find out what range your lab uses since they are not all the same. For instance the lab my med center uses the range of 2.4 - 4.2. The highest my T3 ever went was 5 and I was diagnosed as with subclinical hyperthyroidism. And now, without a gland I'm at a poopy 2.2.
  • I'm no doctor, but I'd call that hyper. Your T3 is slightly over range too. Do you still have a gland? Or any nodules? Here's an easy reading link: http://www.ehow.com/about_5064025_do-high-thyroid-levels-mean_.html -Cynthia
