If you can find a Garmin forerunner 10, that would be perfect. But they haven't made it for a few years. $100 with GPS and HR straps. Now they have the FR25. Basic $100 watch. Does have GPS but connects to ant+ HR straps.

You should be able to find a Garmin Forerunner 230 or a Vivoactive 3 for that price. They'll just work and keep working

If you want to be accurate, buy a pedal based power meter. Assuming your cranks have standard threading. It outputs Watts and kcal and is the most accurate way to measure

I often have to remove my gloves during a run. Given that, I use what ever I find. In high school, I wore cheap knit gloves that cost about $1 per pair. Now I've got a few options, some cheap running gloves from Target, some basic Nike ones that came with a hat.

running, biking, hiking, nordic skiing

I use something different, optical up my arm in a fleshy bit. Chest straps are superior in almost every way to wrist. Chest straps are much more accurate. Chest straps battery last longer (years Vs days). But some people find them uncomfortable.

BAA 5k the weekend of the marathon, Patriots day weekend. But it sells out fast, I've only been able to run it 3 out of the 5 opportunities I've had. Probably more will pop up, but that's one of my A races

9.6 isn't that heavy. My AL road bike is around that. I ride 700c X 25 all day. It doesn't take bumps well but I don't have any issues with traction. Last big ride I did burned 1000KCal over 30 miles (50km)

I can't talk when I run. I'm all phlegm and I can't breathe through my nose. My Dr says it's a partial deviated septum. I can talk in disjointed, short sentences up to my LTHR. Almost 41 55-ish 180+ 172

I start feeling it around 200 miles. They are dead by 300 miles

Used to. Ran 5 mornings a week then 3 days a week at lunch, then 1 evening and Saturday and Sunday. Then got a new job that killed my free time

If your using your arms, your doing it wrong. Practice, practice, practice. With better technique, you'll barely use your arms

Can't edit .. Totally wrong - comes with Look Delta pedals

I believe they come with dual sided SPD pedals. They sell overpriced shoes too

Staying in a deficit will lose fat and muscle UNLESS you excercise.

More compact is misleading. While a spin style bike takes up a smaller footprint, it's another device. Meaning a spin bike plus your outdoor bike(s) take up more room than your bike(s) and a trainer.

Descent speed is a combination of how brave you are, your handling skills, and how stupid you are ;) Weight helps. But what it really comes down to when you want to go as far as possible, is how fast you can go while telling your brain to shut up about your imminent demise. Are you coasting or pedaling on the down hill?…

Then you'd be really envious of my sub $900 setup 😉. My Specialized road bike I bought 11 years ago new for $800 and a dumb trainer with a known power curve (virtual power) I found on clearance for $25 ($300srp) It works really great on traineroad and the virtual power is accurate enough - the math works with how fast I am…

+1 you've got to fuel for peak performance. Research says carb loading does work. Likewise if you want the best return on your training, you've got to fuel for that too. If you're not close to race weight, well that extra mass a bigger hinderince than not getting the optimal training in. An extra 10kg will slow you down a…

All I do is run and cycle. My base weight for a weekend is about 4kg. Let me check some recent hikes... 15 miles, 6k feet, 8 hours. Stopped at the high peak, ate at a hut on the way down. 9.5 miles, 3k feet, 4.5 hours, rain. 21 miles, 2k feet, 10 hours. All above 8k feet. In the Sierra I average 3.2 mph. In the White…

My city publishes all incidents online on a map. In the last 6 months, there has been 600+ assaults. 50% happen Friday or Saturday night between 11 and 3 am. 30%+ happen domestically. The rest are crime related (drugs and prostitution). There has been about three dozen indecent exposure. Zero sexual assaults. And I live in…

10% can be to every run, but most people add it to the long run. 10% every run is the same as every week ;) Now one problem is that you shouldn't do all your miles in that single long run. If you are at 10 miles a week, 3 runs a will land your long run is 5 miles, pretty soon that long run will be most your weekly mileage.…

I have felt a tail wind once. I lived in metro Sacramento at the time, biking down the American River, the wind coming up from the ocean was so strong that if I sat up I could barely make forward progress. On the way back, I was flying

Once it gets really cold, lobster gloves are really, really good. I find it a little difficult to manipulate brifters with them though

I walk 2-5 miles a day just getting to work

To the other question: "jog" is a made up word that relates to boxing training. There it means running on the road. Running vs walking is a real physical difference. Walking always has at least 1 foot on the ground. At some point in the process, running has no connection to the ground. Re treadmill. I have the other…

Ha. I live on top of a hill. I can't go anywhere without dropping at least 100'. My morning ride to the train station has 100' vertical descend over 0.8 miles (so my ride home is a 100' climb). There's a lake at the bottom of the hill - to the East, the train station is to the West - a loop of it is 9.8 miles and 250' of…

But it's only in the crappy theatre nearby! I guess I'll have to drive down to Providence

Or being older and fatter. My last 5k race was 6 minutes slower than my PR.

Listen to the trainerroad podcast. Cause it's the CEO of trainerroad they do a good job of selling indoor training 😉 I use a dumb trainer with a known power curve on trainerroad and watch TV/Netflix/Hulu/Crunchyroll. Their plans are good too, I gained about 15% in my FTP over half of a plan (10 weeks iirc). Sufferfest had…
