Does it? Intuition means following your gut. Doing what you believe to be correct without giving it a lot of conscious thought. Learning develops intuition. I think this is a good explanation. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-intuition-and-instinct “Intuition is when your mind takes in massive amounts…

But a one day fast doesn't necessarily mean fast weight loss. I took almost 1.5 years to lose 30 lbs. My rate of loss was about 1.3 lbs per month. I did some one day fasts in there. I'm not trying to argue or pick on your posts, just clarify as many people on this site seem to have a skewed view of planned safe fasting.…

I would agree with some of that, but that doesn't change the meaning of the word. What people "seem to think" is irrelevant.
-
And if they went back to a normal calorie deficit? Why would they lose mostly water? Most people who do a one day fast drink plenty of water. If there is a deficit there is fat loss. You are making a lot of assumptions. Have you ever done a one day fast?
-
How does fat loss occur?
-
That could be said of anything regarding eating.
-
You'll lose < 1 lb of fat if your daily TDEE is 3300 and you consume no calories. If you overeat the next day, you'll gain it back. You may or may not see a drop on the scales, since weight is more than fat. I fast for a day now and then for weight control and for the discipline of it. I like it. I've done it for decades.…

There is nothing unhealthy about a one day fast.
-
No. But I didn't log while losing weight.
-
Sure, lots of people eat this way. As long as you are within your calorie goal you will still lose fat.
-
I agree with this. I like to do a one day fast (I usually do 36 hours) now and then.

Breakfast: big mug of tea Lunch: leftover pork & beans Dinner: Unknown - going to a dinner party at a friend's house

Doing something without conscious thought is the definition of intuitive.
-
Not sure I agree with this. Just because you choose to ignore your intuition doesn't mean you don't have it.
-
That's true, but the number who are overweight has more than tripled since the 70's.
-
I don't give eating or calories conscious thought on a regular basis. How is that not intuitive?
-
You know when I think back most of the women I knew were probably overweight by today's standards. Not obese or even very overweight, but I'd bet most had a BMI > 25. Less than half of the women I knew over age 30 were "skinny".

Some people can intuitively control their eating.
-
I'm the same. I've had a checking about for almost 40 years and I have never balanced my checkbook. Not once. And who uses checks nowadays anyway? :p
-
I lost weight with intuitive eating because it became clear very quickly that measuring and logging food was not for me. For me, of the two I'd say only eating when hungry was more important. But more specifically, not eating for the first time each day until I was really and properly hungry. Because for me, once I start…

Breakfast: big mug of tea Lunch: cottage cheese w berries Dinner: pork and beans (leftover pulled pork, black beans, onions, peppers, carrots), kale sauteed in olive oil and garlic, red wine

Diets work if you follow them and they create a calorie deficit. It's usually the "follow them" part that makes them fail.

This was my experience too. During the day all that was on were soap operas, news and talk shows. And IDK if this was true in cities, but in the rural area where I lived most families watched only one channel regularly because one one would come in clearly without climbing up on the roof to rearrange the antenna.

There probably are health expos in the US. It's a big country. I've never heard of one near me but I live in a very rural area. We have that sort of thing for hunting & fishing, camping and arts & crafts, though.
-
I agree that it would wonderful and ideal if health expos (I'm not totally sure what that means tbh) did appropriate background checks. I'm just not sure how or by whom that would be regulated or enforced. And I wonder how much difference it would make. There are so many other ways to distribute nonsense these days.

I don't remember a time I didn't know that weight gain was caused by eating too many calories. I never bought into any diet woo or fads. I have never looked for a quick fix. I've fully understood the mechanics of weight control for as long as I can remember. Weight control is still hard. I think there are 2 basic reasons…

Agree, and it wasn't my post so I could be wrong. But IDK what else it could be. Unfortunately not many foods are pumped full of maple syrup. ;)
-
1) I believe the syrup in food was referring to today, not the 70's, since the post says "syrup wasn't being pumped into everything ". I assume this refers to HFCS 3) Not the case where I lived. Most of the boys played little league baseball. Probably only about 1/4 - 1/3 of kids were involved in school sports. We were…

No, I just ignore them and don't mention my goals to them. It's your grandma and your mother. Give them a hug, thank them for caring and change the subject.
