It didn't work for me. I've always restricted certain foods to 'sometimes' or even 'rarely' foods, even while gaining weight so that is a non-issue. But I quickly learned that counting calories, weighing food, logging every morsel was not my thing. It made the whole weight loss process time consuming and annoying for me.…

Leftover jambalaya from dinner last night. Leftovers from dinner is the extent of my meal prepping.

If eating late is bad, I don't wanna be right. I get off work at 5:00 p.m. I typically eat dinner sometime between 8:30 - 9:30 because that's my preference. I've maintained a healthy weight while eating late for over 3 decades.
-
Yeah I do sometimes. All my life (the decades when I had no weight problems) I would periodically get off track and gain a few lbs. Then I'd feel my jeans getting too tight and I'd shake it off and get back to normal.
-
I don't eat frozen entrees (other than my own leftovers) but there is nothing wrong with them. I know a lot of people that eat them regularly and are healthy. I'm sure I'd eat them if I didn't love cooking so much.

LOL No. Why is having 1 or 2 meals a day "skipping a meal"? Who decided we should have 3 (or more) meals a day? And it's certainly not starving unless you choose it to be. My husband has eaten only one meal a day for the 30+ years I've known him and he's also been overweight all that time.

Olive oil probably has as much or more data showing it as a healthy cooking oil as any oil. Coconut does not have the same evidence to back up it's claims. That doesn't mean it's not healthy or there is no evidence, but there is certainly no reason (other than media woo) to think it healthier than olive oil. Just about all…

Yes, that is correct. If $1 makes no difference how can a multiple of it. $1 makes a very small difference, but it's still a difference.

I don't see the logic in that. If 12 makes no difference then how would 24 or 36 or 48 or ...

I was healthy, happy, fit and overweight. While my weight posed no problems I knew the risk of problems was greater so I wasn't really fine with it. Now I am healthy, happy, fit and not overweight. I like it better now. I feel better knowing I removed a health risk that was within my control. And fitting back in my old…

Perimenopause is the period (no pun intended) between regular menstruation cycles and menopause. It's the worst of it usually. During perimenopause periods becoming increasing irregular in frequency and how heavy they are. Often this is also the worst for hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, water weight fluctuations,…

I second this. Fast weight loss seems great until your hair starts falling out.

I know very few children who don't have one of these (or similar). But then again where I most kids get their first motorcycle or ATV before they are out of 2nd grade.

I agree with this. Beer contains no fat but it does contain carbs, some quite a bit. But as far as logging you can do whatever best suits your needs. If it were me I'd just log the beer from the database and let the chips fall where they may.
-
Just curious, why would you log it as fat?
-
I lost 30+ lbs during peri-menopause. I had a LOT of water weight fluctuations which made knowing whether I was losing fat a little hard to determine, but I just stuck with it even if the scale wasn't showing a loss.

I (mostly) choose wine over other treats. I don't eat sweets most days because I'd rather have wine with dinner than ice cream after. Like all my diet rules, it's more of a guideline than rule. I do still eat sweets, just not as often as I drink wine.

So if there is a problem you'd rather your SO just left rather than talk it out? Is that limited to weight or does that apply to all problems?
-
I think that's about the time I started dieting, as in paying attention to my weight. I wasn't fat then, but maybe I would have become fat if I hadn't done it. Some children's hospitals now offer bariatric surgery for teens. These are crazy desperate times.

Talking to someone about their weight isn't the same as not loving them. In cases of obesity and especially morbid obesity it could mean the exact opposite. Obesity raises risk of many deadly diseases. What kind of love supports that?
-
I love this thread. So many different experiences and remembrances of the era. I think it's safe to say that day to day life varied as much then as it does now. I still maintain that activity level is the biggest, but certainly not only, reason for the increase in obesity.

Spices and fat. It sounds like you've been eating pretty low-fat and possibly bland foods. Your gut adjusts to what you eat.

Different strokes for different folks.

Tae-Bo <3 I haven't thought of that in years. Good stuff!

I disagree. It's government sponsored charity. And those that contribute to that charity with their tax dollars should have a say in what their tax dollars are paying for.

Have to go into the office today and go to a birthday dinner right after work so: 30 min ultra-muddy early morning hike before work (really more of a can you stay on your feet kind of sinking and sliding thing but it got the cardio done) . Resistance bands and bodyweight exercises in my office at lunch.

This! If you can only get one, get beans. Unless you just really can not stand the taste of beans or you have some type of allergy/intolerance to then dried beans are like going to be the most nutritious bang for your buck.

Why? Geez, 36? You are still so young. You can't reverse time. No matter what you do, time marches on. Just be glad that you are here to see the march. Enjoy every minute because it goes by so very fast.

For me exercise was more important.
