Is there much of a difference between a crock pot and a casserole dish? Other than the obvious, the crock pot heats itself. I mean if you put a casserole dish in the oven with the same ingredients are the results much different?

As long as rice isn't all you eat then it's fine. You should have a good ratio of carbs / protein / fat, as long as you eating close to a reasonable of each in a day it doesn't really matter how you get them into your body.

Fizzy drinks are kinda sticky and viscous so hang around a bit at the back of your throat making it feel lubricated for longer. Water doesn't do that so your mouth/throat could get drier quicker.

Does it just happen when you take in protein powder? Have you tried eating a very high protein diet for a few days to see if it's something to do with how your body handles unused protein or something like that. If it's just the protein powder that's causing it then unfortunately there isn't much else you can do other than…

You won't maintain your weight and lose fat through diet alone, it's just not possible. If you lose fat you will lose weight, the only way to lose fat and not lose weight would be to gain muscle at the same time, and the only way to gain muscle is to use them. Pretty much all you want to do is move more and eat more to…

That site says my TDEE is around 2,200, 20% off that would leave me with 1,760 so that fits closely with what the other site was telling me. I'll try setting my base calories to 1,800 for the next month and see how I get on. I didn't include trips to the gym in calculating my TDEE. On exercise days should I increase that…

Some fruits have a much longer shelf life than others. I've had apples in my kitchen that have been fine after a week or so, oranges too. If you eat bananas then you can buy a couple of yellow ones to be eaten with in a day or two and you can buy some of the really green ones that ripen at home.. I find the most expensive…

I've started strong lifts 5x5 recently and love it. It's a great starter program because there are only a small number of exercises to learn and perfect. To me this means less opportunity for injury. And it's a full body workout. I can see myself progressing onto a more advanced program after a while but for starting out…

Huh, interesting. I'm almost certain there was a time when they stopped using it. It wasn't listed on their cans anyway. I haven't touched the stuff in a couple of years tho so maybe it was reintroduced at some point? Either way I have no beef with aspartame, an overwhelming amount of studies have been done on it since the…

Anything that's man made isn't good for you? That's a very silly opinion to have. Do you ever go to a doctor when you are sick? Do you only kill and cook wild animals and eat vegetation that grows wild? Because everything else is selectively bread and grown by man. There is a reason that the average human life span has…

Most soft drinks stopped using aspartame a good while ago because of the bad press it got. There was a very dodgy paper published about the substance putting holes in rats brains, the paper was dismissed by most of the scientific community because there were no proper controls used but the conspiracy theory websites…

It's definitely ankle flexibility that's the issue, or tight calfs, not sure if they are the same thing. I did a few different tests to narrow it down. One was to see how far forward my knees go during the squat compared to my toes. Another was to lie on my back with a rolled up towel under my lower back, then lifting my…

Not all of them, that was a bit of an exaggeration. Really tender along my arms, neck and all of my back. Small amounts of soreness in my legs and other areas, but barely worth mentioning tho. I started the stronglifts 5x5 program on Monday, I didn't really use heavy weights because I was just getting used to my form but I…

Good to know, I was just worried I might make it more likely that I'll injure myself. I put most of my weight on when I was suffering with a hip/lower back injury so I'm terrified of either making that flair up again or injuring something else that essentially immobilises me. Does the time the muscles take to heal get…

Today is supposed to be a gym day but all of my muscles are still really sore. Should I go to the gym anyway even tho my muscles haven't healed or should I leave it another day? I went to archery training last night so I guess that is probably responsibly for my muscle pain today. Drawing a 32lb bow repeatedly for 90…

I plan to be consistent with the program this time around so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue. I really should invest in some good footwear if I'm gonna take this seriously, I'm currently using the cheapest pair of runners I could find and they are about 5 years old. I haven't had a gait analysis or been fitted for…

Cheers for the advice. I couldn't even guess what my body fat % is so I have ordered a calipers and a measuring tape so I can figure it out. MFP recommends 1200 calories, adjusted up a bit on exercise days. This is the main reason I fell down when I first joined, I was constantly in the red, usually around 1,500/1,700 and…

It's really good that without really trying you were able to maintain the weight loss. It's a good sign that if you managed to get to your desired weight you shouldn't have too difficult a time staying there :) Best of luck with the weight loss.

I'm the same as AngelAmberL, if I wait till I'm hungry I overeat. But that's a very personal thing and is more about my personal relationship with food than it is about food science. You say you know spot reduction is a myth and then go on to ask if a theory on spot reduction is a myth. You answered your own question. From…

Cheers for the links. Using body fat as a metric for progress is a great idea, I vary so much on the scales through out the week and month that it's pretty difficult to track actual progress that way. I just need to pick myself up a calipers somewhere. I tried out the stronglifts 5x5 program for the first time yesterday…
