Been there! (Am there...) Surgery in Oct 2013, in first year lost 85 lbs, then gained about 35 back over then past 2 years. I have NO dumping, so slowly started to out-snack my pouch and fell out of many post-surgery habits (water, vitamins, etc). I was so bummed! Last fall I started following a low carb/high fat/moderate…

I'm trying to think of what you could mix your smoothies with that would be 0/low carb - because ground up kale and almond milk sounds pretty bad! :) I'm not very creative with smoothies though. If you're asking about juicing them though-I'd think it's a no, just because the fiber is removed and you need to ingest the…

I have to make sure I am searching "net carbs" when I log veggies (search "broccoli, steamed net carbs"), otherwise 20 g carbs is quite low and you will appear to go over pretty quickly. I've always read you can eat 18-22 net carbs a day as long as your average daily carbs are at 20, so a little extra broccoli once in…

A chicken breast, topped with about a TB of cream cheese, TB mayo, fresh jalapeno slices (to taste), and shredded cheddar - bake at 375 for about 20 min (or until cooked through) Baked Parmesan crisps - 1TB (each) shredded Parmesan flatten it out into a loose patty shape, bake at 400 for 8 min. you can add seasonings to…

Agree with both of the above - not to scare you. You have to talk, honestly. My husband was really freaked out about the thought of surgery in general (what if something goes wrong, etc). I construed his silence and lack of questions as not being supportive, which had festered into a serious misunderstanding. He actually…

You didn't say what surgery you are having, but as far as Gastric Bypass (laproscopic)- I think you will definitely need some help with the kids - especially lifting and bending the first week or so. If you'll have a drain tube when you are discharged, you'll need to be careful with that too. Thinking of kids tugging on…

Please check with your doctor about your meds. You didn't mention what they were for, but you mention many pre-existing conditions. Some you can cut out completely, some should be lowered dosages, and others you may need to take in a different form (not time-released, etc). Cutting out meds is an awesome part of this…

Are you taking body measurements? If your clothes are fitting looser, something is going right :) The scale might not show it in pounds. If you want numbers - track your actual measurements. Eventually the scale will drop.

Did it move yet? :)

I thought gas, but you say it keeps coming and going. Call the surgeons office just to be sure. If it's gas, a walk will help.

I'm on day 12. So far, so good! I have been adding coconut oil to my coffee for awhile, so it wasn't an adjustment. I think it makes it richer. I'm not a huge fan of heavy whipping cream in my coffee, but I got used to it. :) I think this lifestyle is going to be a bit of trial and error, but I am down almost 11 lbs (yes I…

If you just miss the occasional "fizz", those LaCroix waters are awesome. They're not as fizzy as a Coke, and have no sweeteners, etc. I've learned to like them alot. :)

Yes- physically I have no problem tolerating carbonation as long as I drink it slowly. But- I'll caution you, the "just a couple sips/bites/etc". can be a really slippery slope. :)

You could just not worry about the percentages and follow the ounces. I'm not sure if you can take them out completely- maybe check the "manually enter" goals option? I used MFP during pre surgery and printed my log prior to each nutritionist visit/weigh in. It was much easier for me to keep it accurate than carrying…

I had the GB surgery and if I remember correctly, there were some weird phantom pains if I moved wrong for the first several weeks. Nothing too crazy, but something I noticed. I kept an eye out for signs and symptoms of infection - redness, swelling, persistent worsening pain, and all the other things on the list they gave…

Look into water exercises, or work with your pre-op team to discuss other low or no impact exercises you can do for the time being. Just focus on moving more - every little bit helps. "Sit and be Fit" There's a good chance that weight loss will ease up some of your knee pain, but it might not remove the need for…

I also hoped I'd get that side effect, but I didn't. Now 2.5 years post, I can eat anything as far as snacking, and can drink alcohol as well with really no different effect than before the surgery. If I overeat sugar, I might get a slightly elevated heart rate or want a short nap, but it is not really a deterrent. I…

I'm 2 years out and this is exactly why I came back to this thread! I've gained back 20 lbs and it's all snacking. I also have NO dumping, so I can pretty much eat and drink whatever in smaller quantities (but I can certainly graze junk food all day if I'm not careful!). I'm here for the reset motivation :) The other…

Chili has been a go to for me for awhile now. I can't stand the smell of ground turkey (weird I know) but the leanest ground beef is very similar as far as fat, etc. I get low sodium beans and tomatoes, sometimes onion and pepper, and everything else is spices, It's very healthy and I love it, especially in winter. (Just…

OMG the article on that link about "slider foods" is me! Today was my first day back to basics and I did pretty well. This topic is so timely though, and a good reinforcement that my pouch isn't broken, but my adherence to the basic rules has gotten way off track.

Just a warning about the RNY as a solution for sweets eaters...it is only about 30% of RNY patients that experience "dumping". I chose RNY hoping for that side effect, as I know I have a sweet tooth. At 1 year out, I can definitely eat any kind of sweet I want to with no side effects. Maybe not in the same volume as before…

You didn't say how long out from WLS you are, but at 10 months I agree with you. I had a 2 month stall eating at a calorie goal of 1000 calories/day. I was exercising by walking 3 miles a day 4-5 days a week and lost nothing. I upped it to 1200 and some days went a bit over that, and lo and behold 10 lbs gone in the past…

I told my husband at the beginning of the process since it's changed his life too. I also told my grandmother, who I am very close to. Unfortunately, my workplace isn't the environment where I felt I could share and be unaffected career-wise, so I still have not shared the reason for my surgery. I did use short-term…

I use a CPAP, you need to bring the mask/headgear with you to the surgery. I assume a sleep study was part of your pre-surgery testing? So they'll have the right settings on file at the hospital and just hook your mask up to their machine. I forgot, I did have a catheter that first day out of surgery. I think they took it…

If you have a digital home scale they are notoriously finicky! Mine will weigh differently from one minute to the next. It has to be in EXACTLY the same position each time you weigh, has to be on a flat, level surface, and you've got to be standing exactly the same (leaning forward or back will change the measurement). I…

As far as my hospital stay after RNY, the first day I was pretty doped up. They tried to get me up around 10pm and walk with the assistance of my husband and the nurse. I made it about 10 feet before I got nauseous. By the next morning, I could (slowly) get myself out of bed and by the afternoon I was walking the floor…

I had RNY and wasn't allowed to try any crackers until the 6 months mark. I can easily eat them, but I am so sorry I even re-introduced them! Right now, you are healing and probably physically can't overeat them, but believe me - at 6-9 months out, I could eat an entire sleeve of them with very little discomfort! It is…

I like the flexees from walmart too. I sometimes wear the torso one that you I wear your own bra with. It is very light weight and it doesn't seem to creep up to my bustline the way some of the shaping camis do. They're easy to find and relatively inexpensive at around $15-20 (depending on the style). I've tried spanx in…

8 months out...I do not dump, or if I do it is so mild I don't notice. I do get the foamies or actually vomit if I eat too much or too fast, but that has only happened with protein rich meals. Makes sense since the protein is probably more dense. With sweets and fats, I have been able to eat everything from chocolates, to…

I gained 10lbs from the surgery, and after the first month I had only lost 5 lbs from my pre-surgery weight! Talk abut freaking out! I am 8 months out now, and just coming out of a 6 week stall. It can be incredibly frustrating. The funny thing is, I really started walking a lot as exercise, and although the scale didn't…
