I gained 10 lbs in hospital. It took a couple weeks to come down - swelling, water retention, etc. Don't worry about the scale these first few weeks - it will catch up :)

Oh no you didn't! lol Seriously though, stick with moderate exercise and good nutrition. Instead of spending the money on pills that will make you jittery and irritated until you fidget them through your system, spend it on a nutritionist or some personal training sessions. You'll have much longer lasting results. :) Full…

I did RNY and so far have had no complications. I also had severe heartburn (not GERD), apnea, high blood pressure, asthma, pre-diabetic, etc. My quality of life was being diminished and after years of trying to eat healthy and exercise the extra weight off, I decided to take a surgical step (I have PCOS as well). I did…

I agree with everyone....use the time to educate yourself on what a healthy diet looks like long term. Get used to logging your meals. I really feel like MFP keeps me honest and is a huge help, on good and bad days. Also Id say if you're not a water drinker now, you could start doing that as part of pre-op (or non-carb,…

If you like chili you can make it at the beginning of the week and just heat it up for a quick dinner - lean ground beef or turkey with beans - protein packed. I add 1/4 cup fat free shredded cheese to mine if I want to add a bit more protein. Also Lentil soups are good. You can get a supplement called Invisiwhey to add…

I was in the hospital for two days and released on the third. The day of surgery I was pretty drugged up on a morphine pump, so I don't remember too much. Pain was sharp when trying to reposition myself in bed, or get out of bed. I used that morphine pump alot! That first night, about 6 hours after I got to my room, they…

I don't remember exactly, but I feel like I was on soft foods for about 3 months, I feel like around month 4-5 I really am able to start eating a little more and trying new things, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. My first three months I ate about 600 calories a day. At 5 months, I'm at around 900/day. Some people…

It's ibuprofen that you can't take (Advil, Motrin, etc). My Dr said Tylenol is fine (acetominophen). Aspirin is also on my NO list.

Just got my shipment - white chocolate raspberry and chocolate chip cookie dough. Thanks for the info - these are great! Kind of different consistency, but once you get used to that they are probably the best tasting protein bars I've tried so far. I love that the nutrition in them is a bit better as well. :)

Aly please call your Doctor if your pain does not go away shortly, or if it gets worse or spreads. Call emergency if you start to feel nauseous or sweaty in addition to chest and/or arm pain. Better to talk to an expert, Chest pain could be from multiple things, some of them serious. Hope everything is okay.

I know, right?

IKR? Personally I think it's rude to make comments about anyone's weight or health (heavy or thin) unless you really are close to them and they've invited the conversation. You just never know someone else's struggle by what's visible on the outside.

I feel ya! I'm at month five and no dumping for me either. I feel very guilty when I eat a sweet or a cracker. But you're right to look at this compared to the past. 81 lbs is incredible! Focus on where you've come from. Exercise is also my biggest challenge - but the weather is getting nicer so I'm sure you'll be…

I had RNY after discussion with my surgeon. I had (have) half my body weight to lose, along with co-morbidities. So I took the most drastic route and I knew there was no going back. It is such a personal decision though, and after five months I am really seeing that everyone really has a different reaction to whichever…

I thought about it for years before I did it as well, but I am so glad I did! I had many of the same co-morbidities you listed, and I just got to the point where I wasn't getting any younger! lol I am almost 5 months out, down 60 lbs and have cut my BP meds in half, my blood sugar is back to normal (I was pre-diabetic), my…

Best of luck to you! First few days are less than fun, but you'll be amazed how much better you'll feel from week to week. :)

I only told my immediate family members and a few select friends. Met one of the friends at the local pub about 3 months out and she asked sits across from me, looks at me and says "So...is the surgery working?". (I had already lost close to 50 lbs) I'm sure she was trying not to be intrusive, but geez what an awkward way…

Greek yogurt (check the sugar on them though). I add Invisiwhey by Twinlab sometimes to boost the protein by another 10 grams. It's not good to add to hot foods, but cold ones it's okay.

I wouldn't take the scale...after all you've got to lighten your stress as well as your body. Walks on the beach, swimming, and seafood! Lots of lean protein to be had. Enjoy!
-
Just a minor setback. Think how hard you're gonna hit that gym when you're up and at 'em again. A few months ago you wouldn't have even thought about missing the gym, right? :) Hope you're back to normal soon, with as little pain as possible.

Yes...just eat the way you have been eating, it should be habit by now. Don't even think about the slippage, treat it like nothings changed. I'd also say if there's anything you can't control once you start eating (carbs) don't even eat one. I had gastric bypass, but figured out I can eat chocolate without dumping. Wish…

Wow! Celebrate that success! 100lbs in 5 months is amazing! :)
-
That's great! Isn't it amazing how much better you can feel from one day to the next!
-
Yes! It works if you're honest, and consistent. Also, are you getting enough water/liquids? Making sure I get 64 a day is a must for me to keep seeing the scale moving down. If I don't get enough water a couple days in a row, I start retaining it.

I seem to remember something simillar, at around a month. After a couple weeks of no pain at all, I had a couple days when it felt like it came back. Had to take some of my post surgery pain meds to sleep. Since I was able to keep food down and was going to bathroom regularly, I gave it a couple days and it went away.…

I'm about 8 weeks out from RNY, sometimes I struggle to get my 60 grams of protein, and I still rely on shakes (although my Dr says they want me on "real" food). I think it would be impossible to get all your protein without using supplements during the first several weeks. I use fat free (and now lactose free) milk in my…

*correction - I said 'sleeve" when I meant "band" as far as surgeon saying she removes a lot of them. They are two totally different things so I didn't want to put wrong info out there. :)
-
I chose RNY mostly because of the "no return" factor (well relatively). I'm 41, been heavy since puberty and figured if I was going to have surgery I was going to make sure there was no going back. I had started to develop comorbidities and I knew at this point in my life I was headed for a shorter and much more miserable…

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA! I'm a Safety manager for a retail store. Husband, no kids, 2 siamese cats. I had RNY on October 28th and still working out the "soft" phase - it's kind of fun to experiment with foods again (unless it doesn't agree with me). I've had no complications and feel great. Have gone back to the gym, and…
