There's a chemical called PFOA in the lining of microwave popcorn bags that the EPA lists as being a probable carcinogen to humans. Here's an article explaining some of the health issues with microwave popcorn - http://undergroundhealthreporter.com/fact-or-myth-is-microwave-popcorn-a-health-hazard/#axzz3dH8zRM76 Here's a…

Microwaveable popcorn is sooooo bad for you. It's been linked to infertility in women. Air popped popcorn is the way to go! You could even squeeze some lime juice and sprinkle a little lime zest on it to get the same flavor, with out all the chemicals. It's also easier to figure out the calorie count with air popped…

Mmmm, coffee. I've become a bit of a coffee snob. I used to drink crappy coffee that was as much cream and sugar as it was coffee. Once I started drinking GOOD coffee, I realized that you only need cream and sugar to mask the awful flavors of cheap coffee. I drink mine black now. I buy a locally roasted Sumatran coffee and…

I have borderline high cholesterol (a combination of family history of heart disease, and my insulin resistance making me more likely to develop heart disease.) My doctor told me to cut back on fats. Heart-healthy fats are ok in moderation, olive oil, avocado, nuts and nut butters, etc. I do eat those things. But any…

Soup is definitely a great one - especially this time of year. I make big batches of soup and then freeze it into individual servings. I have soup and salad for lunch most days. Having a cup of soup along with the salad makes lunch feel more substantial, so I don't feel deprived having just the salad. Right now I'm really…

My cravings usually come from boredom. If I'm watching tv or reading a book, I want to snack. I find that if I get up and do something to distract myself, the craving passes. I try to do something useful or healthy to distract myself. I'll clean something, or take a walk out to behind the garden to empty my compost, or…

Hello all. I'm Joanne, I'm a 29 year old mother of 2, and my goal is to lose 40 lbs total. So far I've lost almost 12 lbs of that 40! Woo! I've struggled with my weight my whole adult life, thanks to the eating disorders and terrible body image passed down to me from my mother (who denies that she has a problem). I've been…

No idea what they're called, but those muscles above the hip bones...Always been a sucker for those. Edit: whoops, someone else posted before I finished. Um...wish my thighs looked like that!

I find that if the lettuce is washed and thoroughly dried, I don't have a problem. By the end of the week, I might have to pick out a few pieces that got a bit wilty, but the majority is fine. Oh, and this is without the dressing. If you put the dressing on the greens, they'll be gross within an hour. I keep everything in…

Most days I have "Overnight Oatmeal" for breakfast. 1/3 cup old fashioned oats (Not instant) 1/3 cup milk (I use almond) 1/4 cup 0% greek yogurt (thick and creamy with tons of protein but no extra fat) 2 tsp chia seeds 2 tsp ground flaxseed 1 Tbsp raw honey optional mix ins: whatever fruit/nuts you want. I almost always go…

And yes, I've still got some weight to lose - I need to lose about 30 more lbs and that's why I'm here now. But I've lost 40 lbs over the course of about 2 years, without even dieting, just by switching from heavily processed, chemical food, to real food made from real ingredients.

Start reading labels. Ingredients are more important than calories in my opinion. I used to buy all the convenience, pre-packaged, processed foods out there. I weighed 230 lbs when I was eating like that. I weigh 190 now, and I attribute that to eating REAL food. When I grocery shop, I buy ingredients not meals. I buy…

*sniffle sniffle* My people! At long last, I've found you. Huge trekkie, SuperWhoLock, Tolkein loving, geeky board game playing gal here. We have a giant piece of anime style Star Wars art hanging in our living room, and my children are going to be a weeping angel and an ewok for Halloween. (To be fair, the baby is going…

I'd stay away from "Low Calorie" Juices. Instead of using sugar to sweeten them, they use aspartame. That stuff is straight up poison. Yeah, it's low calorie, but that doesn't make it healthy by any means. It's like eating Cool Whip instead of whipped cream, because it's lower in calories...well yeah...but it's made of…

I don't drink any juice anymore. There are so many calories in a glass of juice - like chrisdavey said, I'd much rather eat than have a glass of juice. The only time I drink juice is when I'm having a cheat/treat and then I mix fresh grapefruit juice with vodka. YUM. I would never drink juice with added sugar.

My goal was to lose 35 lbs, and I've lost 10 so far. I'm always up for more friends!

I do a big salad for lunch almost every day. The day after I go grocery shopping, I chop and wash all my lettuce and separate it into meal sized containers in the fridge. Then I wash and chop all my produce. Carrots, celery, cucumbers, peppers, etc. all chopped up and put into little containers in the fridge. Once a week,…

I'm 5'8''. My heaviest was about 5 years ago, 227 lbs. When I was 18 I weighed 155, that's my lowest. I currently weigh 190. My goal is 164 (the top end of the healthy weight category for my BMI) But I like the way I look and feel at that weight.

Hi Carrie! I started 10 days ago. The first week or so of a diet is always the easiest for me, but my problem has always been sticking with it. I could use any motivation I can get! I'd love to be friends so we can cheer each other on!
