I only workout at home.. DVD's are a part of that as well as my ipod. The important thing is doing it!

I Spin frequently (2-4x per week). Quads are going to get worked and developed way beyond walking. As an avid walker and runner, my quads were/are worked much harder Spinning than either of those two activities (for me anyways). I know it's instructor led, but hopefully there's a proper warm built in up front to help get…

Wow.. I guess I take stuff like that for granted.

Wow, I can certainly understand how you would be frustrated. Do you have access to good hearing specialists where you are to help diagnose what's going on?
-
That's awesome you can enjoy it as a family. You have one up on me, I've pretty much given up gigging altogether after playing them since 1984. Work has dried up including studio work. Did you lose hearing from music? I know I sure did. No hearing protection back in the days when I used to play all the time. At least you…

I used to be in the very same position. Now I'm unable to run any great lengths on the treadmill without feeling something isn't "right". May be due to more control over pace on the street versus the treadmill. That being said, our weather is so fickle and for many months it's plain dangerous to run outside (ice and snow)…

Cardio depends on the day... Spinning, Rowing, Running (outside or doing intervals on a treadmill). I seldom ever do two of the same cardio routines two days in a row. Resistance Training - I commingle the Hammer/Chisel and 21 Day Fix Extreme series by Beachbody.
-
I'll add another plug for Concept2. Rowing is a great full body workout when done properly.

Hey all.. I'm Dave. I live in Western New York - about an hour's flight from New York City which I visit 3-4 times a year. I've become an exercise nut over the last couple of years. I have home gym which includes a Spin Bike, Concept2 Rowing Machine, Treadmill, Weights, bench, etc.... Am totally into Hammer/Chisel and a…

I just did an 11 mile run today in super high humidity with temps in the low 80's. I wore a shirt and always do. Why? It's my preference. On the trail, I run by all sorts of people with all sorts of body types / sizes / ages and garments. I do one thing only - wave to them. Could give a rats *kitten* what they have on. I…

Anyone can feel free to send me a request if you'd like. I like to support others. All I ask is for the same in return.

You probably already know this but I'll state it... we maintain weight by not exceeding our calorie threshold for the day. Careful and accurate logging helps with this element. Cardio and/or strength training are added benefits for conditioning. Do one, both or neither. I personally hated lifting until I got into it a…

Anyone can add me as well. I do my best to comment. I simply ask for the same in return. After almost 2 years, I can quickly identify those that only want me on their list for a stat. They get removed quickly.

Beachbody is a business. Their goal, like any business is to make make money. I have zero use for their shakeology product or their business model of "coaches", who when decide they want to do it, gain a small financial benefit from the purchases the "coach" has make a purchase. I was asked almost I instantly when I made a…

Yeah... remember the context in which this is being discussed. I don't think anyone here is implying that what's possible at 45 is also possible at the same intensity at 75. We are all old enough to "get it". We all know aging impacts the body. This is about making excuses due to age or not in terms of getting your…

This is me.... I'm going to be 50 in a few days. I'm in WAY better shape now than I was turning 30 or 40. Heck, I'm in better shape today than I was turning 49 for that matter.

This is pretty much me as well. In fact, I wish I didn't wait so long to begin strength training. I don't work to bulk and I don't lift heavy compared to most, but I do challenge myself on every move to lift heavier assuming I can maintain proper form. Strength training has made the 3 main forms of cardio I do safer and…

Just posted this recently on a related thread so I'll post it here as well... I only workout at home. Things have morphed over time and now have a small home gym that includes: Concept2 Rowing Machine, Spinner Bike, Treadmill, wide range of dumbbells, medicine balls, weight bench, pull up/chin up bar, & resistance bands. I…

I only workout at home. Things have morphed over time and now have a small home gym that includes: Concept2 Rowing Machine, Spinner Bike, Treadmill, wide range of dumbbells, medicine balls, weight bench, pull up/chin up bar, & resistance bands. I work with DVD's for Spinning. For resistance training I work with the Hammer…

^^ This times a million. I spin 2-3x per week.. If you enjoy it, do it with a good instructor/class, do it safely (proper form), it's not only a blast but an amazing cardio workout. Will also help to strengthen certain leg muscles over time. If you are going to 'get into' spinning more, you may want to look into cycling…

Agreed with the others. Keep going and results will eventually begin to show. Body wise and your requirement to use a heavier weight. Like what's already been stated, it's not possible to help answer your question without knowing more. Big difference in what you may burn doing a series of step ups with a dumbbell versus…

I also sent you an invite. I am approaching my 2nd year on MFP and have also found it a challenge to find friends who are committed to the process who also provide support and / or feedback.

Yes, my late 40s is when I came to the crossroads. Heaviest, so out of shape and rocketing blood pressure issues. Turned it all around and so can you... if you want it bad enough... About to turn 50 and in better shape than when I turned 30 or 40.. Weigh as much as when I did when I turned 20. No more meds, no more blood…

Awareness, impact and consequences to decisions and choices made - positives and negatives. Actions and inactions. For me, the task of logging isn't sustainable so I gave that up once I shed the weight I wanted to. The holding back of not eating foods and drinks I love isn't sustainable. I eat and drink what I like. Doing…

I do planks within the context of my workouts as well.

It's important enough to me where I do my best to set aside the time to exercise on a daily basis and try to continue on my path of holding a maintenance weight. I try to schedule my exercise around family and friends - not the other way around. Human relationships far outweigh any other relationship in my life. Tomorrow…

Nothing I can add but to say.. enjoy! I was invited to take one formal class as a visitor with a friend who belongs to a Spin Studio. About 3 weeks later I purchased a Spin bike for home. Haven't looked back since. An awesome form of exercise if you enjoy doing it.

If you must... shorts... also.. strongly recommend cycling shoes with cleats... not sure if or what you think of those.
