  • I've been concerned for awhile about my weight in the future - especially post-pregnancy (provided I am able to have kids). I'm pretty sure my cousin is undiagnosed (we share many of the same symptoms) and she's been trying on and off for the last 13 years to lose the weight she gained during her pregnancy. It's made me…
  • This is why I posted here :) I figured 24.7 wasn't great, but I half-hoped it wasn't too bad since my doc didn't seem concerned at this stage. My friend with PCOS, IR, and almost pre-diabetes was confused/surprised that she didn't give me more info, prescribe met, or ask me to come in sooner for a follow up. I have an appt…
  • Follow up: At my physical on May 22nd, I asked for fasting glucose AND insulin to be checked. A medical assistant gave me the results saying that my insulin was high at 24.7 and that it shouldn't be over 19.5 (I think - hectic work day and I didn't write it down). The doctor left a note saying only that - nothing else. I…
  • In addition to the low carber group posted above (launchpad), check out P.C.O.Sis. Many of us are in both groups, but other issues related to our symptoms tend to be discussed on the PCOS board. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/3070-p-c-o-sis
  • Carbs (in addition to calories) often need to be a priority for women with PCOS due to difficulties processing carbs adn sugars, and in some cases they are insulin resistant. Being IR makes losing weight without lowering carbs and sugars difficult for some of us. Metformin can help with this, but many of us chose to make…
  • Thanks! I'll check them out Thanks so much! I'll definitely check them out!
  • Thank you! This is perfect! I just really wanted a jumping off point... I figure a few recommendations from people who have been doing this longer/more frequently will help me know what to look for when choosing videos on my own. I realize everyone has their own preferences, but it definitely gives me some place to…
  • I do have instagram! I've followed Yoga Journal for awhile now (which I also have a subscription to), and recently a friend recommended Kathryn Budig's account - which is how I learned of yogaglo. Can you recommend any others? I like the idea of daily poses and challenges for days when I may not have time to do a whole…
  • Thank you so much!!! It sounds like it is definitely worth checking out considering my level. I like the idea of repeating the lessens before moving on. Sorry you had a bad experience with GaiamTv! I would probably get frustrated, too. That's why I figured I'd ask first instead of checking it out myself - I get discouraged…
  • Congrats on the 9 lbs down! That's so fantastic! Most importantly congrats on feeling better :) I think that's the most important part! I have fibromyalgia maybe - my doctor hasn't officially diagnosed me, but it's been a year so hopefully at my next physical she will (she was waiting on me getting an MRI first). I also…
  • I was going to say something similar! And add an anecdote: My cousin in law has Hashimoto's and while it isn't easy, her reaction to being diagnosed was "thank GOD I'm not just crazy!" Before that she was depressed, having mood swings, and it was impossible to lose weight. She thought she was losing her mind - the…
  • Hello! And welcome :) When I was first diagnosed in 2004 (can't believe it's been that long!), I mostly read books by Colette Harris. She basically advocated for a Low Glycemic diet, which worked really well for me then. I was pretty happy with just eating "green light carbs" for the most part and avoiding added sugar. I…
  • Congratulations! That's wonderful news
  • LCHF and Keto aren't exactly the same, but you will find people who have lowered their carbs to varying degrees on the low carber forum. Some people don't consume any carbs except whatever is in their meat. We're all different. I have PCOS and am probably insulin resistant (going for blood work next month) so I have a lot…
  • Thanks for the advice! I don't have an appointment written down on my calendar for May so there's a chance I didn't make one yet. I was going so frequently since my physical last May that it all kinda blurs together. If that's the case, I'm going to try to make it for sooner. I work at a school and have spring break next…
  • Ll Ugh this. I started tracking November 2013 because my gyno wanted me to lose 20ish pounds I guess (never gave me a number but on Mon told me to lose a little more) and I've lost 14ish pounds. It has taken so damn long. So many stalls along the way... I lost 10 pounds and then was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over the…
  • Omg! So many of these! I lost count of how many I relate to. I think the biggest for me (second to other women with PCOS have kids so obviously I won't have any trouble. Except I will.) is that so many people don't understand that different people have different symptoms. My closest girlfriend has it and she, like so many,…
  • I agree with you both - it is definitely watered down. It's definitely not a comprehensive list. For me personally some of these topics are things that bug the day lights out of me, and I thought some other ladies could relate. Figured it could be a jumping off point if people needed to vent. Sorry it was a bit of a…
  • I get this way a lot on the weekends. Husband works 10-7 so I have long stretches of time to myself. I used to use lunch as a break in the middle of doing house or school work, but we've been having big bacon and egg breakfasts around 8:30 or 9am (we do smoothies Mon-Fri) so I don't get hungry until about 2 or 3pm. I still…
  • Well I should specify that turkey burger with a whole wheat bun, rice & chicken, and whole wheat pasta are the only things that fit the calorie allowance for dinner (400-600) that she likes. She doesn't eat fish. The dinner restrictions she stated were no white rice, no dressings, no soy sauce, no red meat, no fruit, and…
  • My friend got roped into the 30 day cleanse/detox by her coworker. She's been feeling pretty frustrated with her weight and lack of loss (we both have PCOS, but hers is worse when it comes to gaining/losing weight) so she is only doing it to knock off some pounds. It's funny too because she's so anti-fad diet, but she's…
  • Oooo I'm glad you asked this because I have the same problem!! I made fat bombs that had coconut oil and had to give them all to my husband... I couldn't take the coconut taste. These are great substitutions!
  • Happy you got it tested - hopefully things will get better from here! :)
  • Wonderful! :)
  • I'm an aide in self-contained ABA - but also a home ABA therapist with a one hour commute and grad school (thank god for online learning!) so I get the long days and bringing work home with you since I write the programs for one of my clients. Oh and I have PCOS. - I second the recommendation of the PCOSis group. I've…
  • Congrats on your ten pounds lost!!! I definitely have PCOS and anxiety, and am currently in the process of getting diagnosed with fibromyalgia as the cause of my migraines. From what I've read since my diagnosis in 2004, PCOS can cause anxiety and depression. Maybe in taking care of the PCOS, you will alleviate some of the…
  • Hi! I'm Jaime - I have been on and off mfp for 4ish years but only joined groups and started reading forums at some point in 2014. I've mostly been lurking here... reading everyone's posts, but only today posted for the first time. I have PCOS and am a few stubborn pounds away from my goal. I have never been very over…
  • This post is so incredibly helpful. I've been reading a ton here and on PCOS boards... but having it written out in such a concise way makes it easier to make sense of it all. Thanks!
  • My cousin-in-law has PCOS and had trouble nursing both her babies. It was really bad with baby #1. According to what she was told - after months of stress about not being able to properly nurse her baby - low milk production can be a side effect of PCOS.
