  • Ah. Yes, don't we all.
  • Just curious -- what do you mean by "natural born sugar addict" in your profile?
  • You should open your diary so we can see what foods you are eating. I eat a whole bag of vegetables (134 calories for 3 cups of veg) and a glass of water. That fills me up, then follow it with something small that is sweet and fatty to get the satisfied feeling.
  • I had a bad day yesterday and was feeling a bit sorry for myself and a bit scared this morning. I clicked your link, read this, and IMMEDIATELY felt reassured and ok. THANK YOU SO MUCH. (((((((((I am giving you a big hug right now))))))))))
  • I just checked the equivalency for milliliters to grams (of water) and it's 1 to 1. Is that useful? I really don't know b/c American. Also here's the link.
  • I find this to be the case with my vegetables. I like the taste of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, and I find covering them with butter or otherwise just masks their tasty flavor. Covering peanut butter with butter, on the other hand, is delicious.
  • Confused about what, MrM27?
  • That pussycat is cute.
  • Well, you keep looking at the trees, and I'll focus on the forest.
  • Well, my body differentiates glucose sourced from a donut vs glucose sourced from an apple. When I see a donut, my saliva glands go nuts and start squirting all over the place. When I see an apple, my saliva glands go "meh" unless I'm really really hungry. I don't know why the conversation always focuses on the GI tract…
  • Yes, you get to eat lots of calories! I'm 5'4" tall and I've lost 20 pounds eating around 1500 calories a day. People recommend the scooby calculator to find out what your daily intake should be. Counting calories works. However, in addition to tracking calories, you also need to keep an eye on WHERE those calories are…
  • Hi OP: I hope this post survives the flame war. For me, I need a lot of fat in my diet. If I don't get enough fat, I get hungry and I get cranky. I used to eat fat-free yogurt but now I eat full-fat. I use real butter. I drink full-fat milk. The difference in calories isn't much because I am more full and more happy on 1/2…
  • What does the Pope know about yogurt? heh heh
  • OP, thanks for posting this. I used to think I should eat a salad with every meal, but when I realized how many calories Ranch dressing added, I decided I didn't want to spend my calories on something I didn't get that much pleasure or nutrition from. So I ixnayed salad. Now I enjoy Ranch dressing in its proper context --…
  • When I was going through addiction counseling for my binge eating, we would go around the circle and tell our story. I always felt bad going after the person who talked about snorting blow off the belly of a hooker. Cause I'd have to follow it with "I can't eat just one cookie." I do on a regular basis. I've been going for…
  • I used to binge. 10 years ago I joined a 12-step program, stopped eating my trigger foods, and have been binge free since. For me, having a daily food plan really helped. I know what I am going to eat every day, I space my meals out every 4-5 hours, and I make sure to have a snack right before bed. That way, I don't start…
  • Thanks for the FB heads up, Leena!
  • Use the recipe function under food.
  • I think the end game for me is that I've successfully dealt with my sugar problem. I used to binge on sweet foods; now I don't. I don't have a medical condition that required me to reduce my sugar, but I did have a self-control problem. Once I reduced my refined sugar intake, I no longer had a self-control problem. When…
  • Except this thread didn't do that. At all. OP wanted to know how to cut out refined sugar. A bunch of people answered with specific techniques for cutting out refined sugar. Then several people came in and instead of helping OP, started their pick-a-fight routine. Sugar is the devil for people who don't have any control…
  • +1. Nicely put.
  • Come on, that's the best you can do? I seriously thought you would immediately find the error in my analogy.
  • "Hey I have this glass of milk!" "Hey I processed it and made this cheese!" "Milk and cheese are the same thing!"
  • Slow down, there, slick. No one in this thread has said a thing about the body processing sugar differently. Natural sugar occurs in nature and refined sugar is made in a factory. Those are two very different things. Are you disagreeing with that? Do you think that sugar cubes grow on trees? eta: I do need to use that…
  • Herrspoon said there was no difference between natural sugar and refined sugar. There is a huge difference between the two. One is produced in nature and one is produced in a factory. Here's a link explaining how to refine sugar. It's not quite a recipe, but if you have a chemistry background, you might be able to refine…
  • Natural sugar at it's finest.
  • Who in this thread said refined sugar was bad?
  • Here's are two more pretty pictures of the Baltimore sugar factory:
  • Yes there is. Natural sugar is created by nature. It exists in relationship to other nutrients. Refined sugar is created in a sugar factory. It no longer exists in relationship to other nutrients.
  • I support the addiction model as a viable method for dealing with loss of self-control around certain foods. It's a proven, workable method. I don't understand why MFP members want to remove a successful tool from the weight-loss tool box.
