  • That is good to know.....
  • I ate a pint of haggendauz dulce la leche Thursday night. A full pint.
  • at night I like to drink licorice spice tea from Stash Teas. It is caffeine free, and has the natural sweetness from the licorice root, so it tastes sweet without adding sugar. Must like black licorice, though...
  • What is TDEE? I have a fitbit flex, but I just use it to track my walks and my sleeping patterns (IF I remember to sync it first).
  • I am type 2 diabetic, and I eat 1 smoothie every day late in the afternoon. It helps to fill in some of the allowances for MFP. I have noticed that I can cram a lot of fruit in my 16 oz smoothie ( I consider it a meal) as well as kale and avocado, and still be within my sugar and fat guidelines. My A1C is down below 7.0,…
  • most days for me, I have a banana and a protein shake before workout, and follow up with a protein blasted smoothie, or chicken or fish post work out. I put chia seeds and kale in my smoothies.
  • I am type 2 and I do limit artificial ingredients of all kinds. However, I have found liquid Stevia to work best for me. Unlike many of the powdered artificial sweeteners, I have been told the liquid Stevia doesn't contribute to an insulin dump. It slips right by the endocrine system like a whisper.
  • So the old school idea that beans are starches and should not be used much if you are trying to lose weight, is now being replaced with the fact they are high in protein and rich in fiber... I love beans and lentils myself, so should I really add more to my diet? I have been using them rarely and miss them when I am not…
  • If you don't have a genetic predisposition to having high cholesterol, I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't make it a habit. My trainer suggests a 3 egg breakfast every day. I eat a lot of chicken and fish, so I get plenty of protein that way. I take statin drugs because of my triglycerides, so I only eat eggs about 2…
  • Please don't allow the presence of these young people to deter you from using all of the resources at your gym. These people are very focused on their own program, and you focus on yours. When I started at the gym, I was floored when the people in there treated me with respect and were very helpful. Back about 10 -15 years…
  • AMEN to that. I used to be sedentary, 320 lbs., and the thought of exercising on a daily basis made me cringe. I pushed myself to do it, and I acquired a taste for it. Now, after about 2 years, I really look forward to it. I think what really drives me is the sense of exhilaration and self esteem boost I get from it. as my…
  • I have 2- 3 lb. weights by my recliner in my living room. On days I don't go to the gym, I do upper body stuff while watching the tube at night. It keeps my body and mind busy, and makes me feel good about what I am doing. This, in turn helps to steel my wool and choose not to eat in the evening ( high sodium and sugary…
  • Been there...Done that. Welcome back. I live alone, and it is really easy to stay at home and only go out when I workout. I had a day with my sis-in-law today and decided to be more social. Less time vegging in front of my TV and computer and getting out of doors, exercise and seeing old friends. Thats the best cure for…
  • I would think it is a good thing to not have a belly full of food when your body is shutting down for the night. A light snack is one thing, but I never eat past 6 or 7 PM.
  • keep us informed as to the time and channel and time zone.
  • Even 12 - 15 minutes a day for a walk is a lot better than nothing. Once you get used to the movement routine you can mount up. It is very important to make time for exercise every day.
  • With all of the "consumer reports" data coming in, some of those weight loss drugs are a sham. In the 70's before ASFDA pounced on the wagon, tape worm eggs were found in some of them. Others, as well as vitamin supplements consist of fine ground sawdust, and other fillers. Seriously, Google this and check it out. Most of…
  • core exercises. Ab crunches, Wood chops, Planks. You can do all of this stuff from home as well as the gym.

  • I will have to try it. I like to make a smoothie in the early evening as part of my dinner, if I have a lot of allowances left over. This PB2 would be an awesome protein powder for me. So many of the other "berry" flavored protein powders have a weird after taste to them. Vega makes my fresh strawberry smoothie taste…

  • I just know when I work out, my body feels better, my mindset is where it should be, and for me, I can't starve 135 lbs off of my body. Even with severe arthritis, I have to keep moving or I will be dead, just like many of my family members that lived sedentary.
  • I am type 2, and my nutritionist has always told me the importance of protein and exercise. Exercise helps keep the sugar levels down as well as diet. I try to stick with low glycemic, and use Atkins products to help keep down the carbs. My A1C has been awesome since I get 3x a week with my trainer, and eating low sugar.
  • sara lee makes a wholegrain bread called "delightful" that I use. It's only 45 calories a slice. I rarely eat bread, but it's thinner cut slices, and makes a great sandwich. There is also many companies out there using carb control in the production of their goods. Check out the recipe section on MFP. We all share ideas…

  • Do you have a regular doctor that can refer you to a nutritionist? If you live in the Seattle area, there is one at Healthpoint Tukwila. That's the one I am going to see. I am glad you are taking good care of your health after this procedure. Many people don't realize the regimen one must follow post surgery. It's more…
  • Welcome friend. I am om my 3rd attempt with MFP. The ap is awesome, but I just loved those nasty carbs and overloaded them a alot which slooooowwweeedd down my weight loss. You can't starve it all off, exercise is essential. I have 130 more lbs to go, Been going at it a few years now, and will not stop until I reach my…
  • ditto on the cilantro... In culinary school, everybody used it in most dishes and 90% of the time, they used too much. No one likes their pico de gallo to taste like soap!
  • That happened to me when I was changing a light bulb in the kitchen. Good thing the drapes were pulled in front of the sliding glass door...My mom got a big laugh out of that one.
  • I never did figure out how to sync my flex with MFP. I just use the flex to track my sleeping patterns, and track my walks at the park. The rest, I use MFP. There is a tutorial on fitbit.com that will guide you through everything. Good luck.
  • I started off at 320 lbs, and like some FOODS, you just have to aquire a "taste" for it, I think. As my self esteem and self worth went up, my desire to keep up what I am doing to get results went up along with it. I have a 2 year old grand daughter and I want to see her grow and become a woman. You need to find some…
